Book Review and New Release: Risky Surrender by Robin Bielman (Risk It #2)

Title: Risky Surrender Author:  Robin Bielman Series: Risk It Genre: contemporary romance Published: 2013 Pages: 109 Format read: ebook Rating: C+ Risky Surrender is one of three novellas being released by Entangled’s Ever After line on August 26th as part of their “August Ever After” promotion. Having loved Robin’s Kissing the Maid of Honor, I was really looking forward to this book. In the end it was an enjoyable read, but felt a bit uneven. Lucy Davenport is an archaeologist on a mission. She’s leery of love, because she feels that everyone she’s ever loved has died and left her–including her archaeologist husband and…

Book Review and New Release: Gamble in Gold by Natalie Anderson (Flirting to Win #3)

Title: Gamble in Gold Author:  Natalie Anderson Series: Flirting to Win Genre: contemporary romance Published: 2013 (originally part of anthology Flirting to Win, published 2012) Pages: 97 Format read: ebook Rating: C+ Gamble in Gold is the third novella in a series set in London during the recent summer Olympics there. It’s a cute, quick read–though it’s one I definitely wish had been longer. Both the characters and the plot could have used more…though that is one of the dangers of a novella. Still, it was an enjoyable read with fun characters…and a dog named Mango. Lexie Peterson has always been shy and quiet. An…

What I’m Reading: Week in Review (8/23/13)

Well, another family vacation is over (sigh.) and we’re that much closer to school starting up again (bigger SIGH.) This can mean only one thing: time for some serious denial! Nothing says denial like lots of non-school related reading, right? Though, sadly, I did sneak some school-related reading in there too. Even my denial has its limits. Unfortunately. On the first full day in the Poconos, my sister-in-law got us all tickets to see the minor league affiliates of the Yankees (her favorite team) play. I was a little concerned, because we woke up to rain that morning. (Not…

Books on Sale: Happy Birthday, Kindle Daily Deal!

To celebrate the anniversary of their Kindle Daily Deal (which I use waaaay too often, especially thanks to that darn Whispersync for voice), Amazon has more than sixty-five of their past deals on sale again today. You can find them all here. Highights: The book that started it all: Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief for $2.99. I have students who read this over and over. Adventure, mythology, and (eventually!) a budding romance–what more can you want? Except maybe a movie that actually follows it. But I digress…. A mystery that I read earlier this summer on audio…

Books on Sale and a Contest! Back to Reading with Tiffany Truitt

Entangled Teen and author/teacher Tiffany Truitt are sponsoring a “Back to Reading” (and back to school…sigh) contest and book sale for YA readers—and readers who love YA! I was thrilled to help out, since 1) she’s a teacher too 2) she’s also crazy enough to participate in NaNoWriMo and 3) just look at all those books! The classroom library—as well as Mini Moe #2 and yours truly—would love to get our hands on those! We’ll be taking advantage of the sale too; check out those gorgeous covers! Read on for all the details… From the Desk of Author Tiffany Truitt:…

Love in the Digital Age: Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros (Book Review and Book Club pick)

Title: Goodnight, Tweetheart Author: Teresa Medeiros Genre: contemporary romance Published: 2010 Pages: 240 Format read: ebook Rating: B+ Goodnight Tweetheart is a short, sweet, fun romance that definitely takes full advantage of the digital age we live in. The hero and heroine, Abby Donovan and Mark Baynard, “meet” in the Twitterverse. In fact, they don’t meet in person until the very last page of the original story! (Apparently Teresa’s fans asked for an epilogue so much she eventually added one. It’s cute and definitely worth reading, but I kind of like the open-endedness of the old ending. Especially when coupled with…

Find Your Happily Ever After Here (and a Giveaway!): Happy First Anniversary, Bliss Books!

This month marks the first anniversary of Entangled Publishing’s Bliss books line. To celebrate, they’ve asked fans to talk about why they enjoy Bliss books, and are also offering an awesome giveaway—a Blissfully Sweet Gift Basket. Bliss titles offer uplifting, contemporary romances that focus on family, community, friendship—and of course, a HEA! I really enjoy them because they’re short and sweet, and are perfect for those times when I want a guaranteed happy ever after with a good dose of modern-day angst first. They focus more on the emotional relationship between characters (especially the hero and heroine, naturally!) than the…

Books on Sale: Amazon Daily Deal and SBTB Book Club Books at All Romance eBooks

If you’re looking for some end-of-summer reads—or stocking up for the cooler weather months (because what’s better than a comfy couch, a good book, and a quilt? Nothing, that’s what. Unless you add some chocolate.)—there’s quite a few books on sale today. As part of today’s Amazon’s Kindle Daily Deal, there’s twenty-two romances on sale, all for $1.99 or less. It looks to be a decent selection, from contemporaries to historicals to paranormals. I haven’t read any of them yet, but a few of the titles and authors have made it onto my never-ending TBR list: Julia London’s the Fancy…

End-of-Summer Reading with a Book Review and New Release: Darker Days by Jus Accardo (Book one of the Darker Agency series)

Title: Darker Days Author: Jus Accardo Series: Darker Agency Genre: YA paranormal Published: 2013 Pages: 332 Format read: ebook Rating: B+ So we’re on our last vacation (sob!) of the summer. Yesterday, our first full day in the Poconos, we went to a minor league baseball game to watch the affiliates of the Yankees defeat (finally, after eight and a half innings of absolutely NO SCORING—I was just starting to worry that overtime was going to be necessary and the Mini Macs were already overdue for their naps) the affiliates of the Phillies. Since I find baseball only mildly more exciting than…

What I’m Reading: The Week in Review

Summer’s drawing to an end (no matter how much I try to deny it, it’s true), so I’ve been trying to get as much reading in as humanly possible before the dreaded “S” word starts up again. SIGH. I started the weekend reading the three Indulgence titles that were due to come out on Monday, so I could get their reviews done. I let Mini Moe #2 pick the order, which she did according to how smutty the titles started. (She’s fourteen. Therefore she is scornful of smutty-sounding titles. This is a good thing, for now.) First was Something’s Cooking…
