Series: Sano Ichiro Mystery Series (Book 18)
Genre: Historical Mystery

Japan, 1709. The shogun is old and ailing. Amid the ever-treacherous intrigue in the court, Sano Ichiro has been demoted from chamberlain to a lowly patrol guard. His relationship with his wife Reiko is in tatters, and a bizarre new alliance between his two enemies Yanagisawa and Lord Ienobu has left him puzzled and wary. Sano’s onetime friend Hirata is a reluctant conspirator in a plot against the ruling regime. Yet, Sano’s dedication to the Way of the Warrior—the samurai code of honor—is undiminished.

Then a harrowing, almost inconceivable crime takes place. In his own palace, the shogun is stabbed with a fan made of painted silk with sharp-pointed iron ribs. Sano is restored to the rank of chief investigator to find the culprit. This is the most significant, and most dangerous, investigation of his career. If the shogun’s heir is displeased, he will have Sano and his family put to death without waiting for the shogun’s permission, then worry about the consequences later. And Sano has enemies of his own, as well as unexpected allies. As the previously unimaginable death of the shogun seems ever more possible, Sano finds himself at the center of warring forces that threaten not only his own family but Japan itself.

Riveting and richly imagined, with a magnificent sense of time and place, The Iris Fan is the triumphant conclusion to Laura Joh Rowland’s brilliant series of thrillers set in feudal Japan.

WLK synopsis

Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father’s demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father’s money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar.

Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he’s willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father’s punishment is over.

McFarland’s Farm was a short read–an HEA was achieved but it could have benefited from being in a longer format, because it felt rushed. Jared and Lucas went just a tad bit quickly from like to lust to “let’s move in together”

Still, it was enjoyable, and I’d definitely read more from this author in the future. Jared is a highly sympathetic character, and I was rooting for him from the first scene. He’s made a nice life for himself in the small town of Hope, and has a successful business. He gets along well with everyone in town, treats his workers well, and is respected by his business associates.

Lucas was a bit harder to warm up to, coming off at first as a spoiled, insolent brat, but once we began to see things from his point of view he became more likable. I wasn’t convinced at first that he was good enough for Jared, but he got better as the story continued.

One thing that didn’t make much sense to me was that Lucas apparently had no idea that Jared was gay until about halfway through the book–years into their acquaintance. Lucas’s sister, Jared’s ex, knew. Lucas’s father and Jared’s business associate, knew. It seemed that Lucas was the only person who knew him who thought Jared was straight, and it didn’t feel realistic given how long the two had known each other. Especially since we were supposed to believe that he’d been lusting after him for almost as long as he’d known him–and from Jared’s POV we know that it was definitely mutual…yet Lucas never once had a clue?

I would have liked to have seen more from Jared’s POV–after the first few hours of Lucas’s visit, the story is heavy on the other man’s POV. (Though we needed to see things from his viewpoint to better understand where he was coming from–but if this story were to be expanded, more scenes from Jared’s POV would definitely be in order.) The narrator does a decent job with the story, making it a pleasant afternoon’s read overall.

Cardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.

Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. Cover Reveal! MELTING INTO YOU by Cassandra Carr

Coming this March!

Melting Into You

Seth Mason’s life as a macaroni and cheese food truck owner in Austin, Texas, is pretty good, except for one thing: he’d like to find a man to share that life with. As part of an organization Seth founded, he donates leftovers to the local homeless shelter, and meets Ben, a new employee. He’s a preppy guy, and very much not Seth’s usual type, but the attraction is strong and not going away.

Ben’s just moved to Austin from Connecticut to take a job as a case manager at the Austin City Mission, the first time he’s left home and family. But only a short time after he starts work, he meets a man who, though he looks like an extra in a surfing movie, intrigues him. He’s hardly seen what life in Austin has to offer, and yet finds he wants to discover that with Seth’s help.

The passion burns hot between them–hotter even than Austin in the dog days of summer, and neither man can deny it. As they grow closer, both must decide if they have the necessary ingredients for lasting love, or if the relationship will go up in smoke.

New Release Review: DRAGON HER BACK by Susannah Scott (Las Vegas Dragons #3)

Finally! Mei and Darius’s story 🙂

A paranormal category romance from Entangled’s Covet imprint…

How To Claim Your Dragon…

As the head of security of Vegas’s Crown Jewel casino―and its hidden dragonshifter sanctuary―ice dragon Darius Dachien commands respect. Unfortunately, that respect isn’t always reciprocated. In fact, when it comes to the stunning Mei Chen, hostility might be a better word. Which makes things even harder for Darius, since Mei is his dragon mate. Without her, his dragon form is fading fast… and once lost, will be gone forever.

Mei can’t deny the fierce chemistry that simmers between them. If Darius were ever to discover who―or rather, what―she really is, she wouldn’t just lose him, but her place with the dragonshifters. The moment Mei’s past comes crashing into her present, she realizes her time for secrets has ended. Now she must reveal her true self… and risk both her life and her heart with the one man who could destroy her.

Susannah Scott’s been teasing us with Mei and Darius’s story for two books–finally we find out what would make Mei give him the terminally cold shoulder.

It was a long wait–but fortunately, totally worth it 🙂

The book opens with Darius trying to make yet another series of clumsy attempts to woo Mei–in his adorably geeky, head-of-security way.

(Let’s just say it’s probably a good idea to at least make sure an unwanted gift wasn’t once alive before you throw it out in your work trash can and leave it there overnight. Lesson learned.)

But a smelly office is soon the least of her worries as Mei learns that her past has finally found her again. Can she escape it once and for all, or is it too late? This time, it’s not just her life that’s at stake, but Darius’s, and possibly even Alex the dragon king’s as well. There’s something huge she’s kept from all of them, and it’s about to come to drag her back to the nightmare she thought she’d left behind…

I really enjoyed being able to see into Mei’s head and finding out what her secret was. Though I wished she’d been able to completely trust Darius sooner, I understand why she didn’t. And when Darius finds out just how much she’d been keeping from him? Heartbreaking. For a while there, I wasn’t sure how Ms. Scott was going to be able to pull off an HEA.

(Spoiler alert–she does. And it’s a fun read in the process–bonus!)

There isn’t a whole lot of explanation of the characters and their universe in this one, so though it could probably be read as a standalone, I have a feeling the story works better after you’ve read books 1 and 2. If nothing else, you’ll be anxious to find outwhy the heck Mei can shut Darius out so completely when he so desperately wants to complete their bond…and not just because his dragon is fading, but heck–his dragon is fading. How can she possibly stand by and watch that?

Thank goodness, in the end she can’t. And she doesn’t.

Bring on book 4!

Rating: 4 stars / B+

New Release Review: MISTAKEN BY FATE by Katee Robert (Serve #3)

When Ridley Ethridge arranges a night in NYC’s premier BDSM club, she doesn’t expect to see the wrong twin when the blindfold comes off but seducing Garrett Reaver might be the best thing that ever happened to her. MISTAKEN BY FATE is the third novel in the Serve series from Entangled Brazen, and the first written by Katee Robert. Fans of Tessa Bailey’s EXPOSED BY FATE or Diane Alberts’ FALLING FOR THE GROOMSMAN will love this sexy, erotic romance by NYT Bestselling Author Katee Robert!

Mistaken by Fate

Title: Mistaken By Fate
Author: Katee Robert
Series: Serve #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 1, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Brazen
Print Length: 172 pages
Format: Paperback and Digital
ISBN: 978-1505232547 (print) | 1505232546 (digital)

Synopsis: The man she should want, or the man she craves…

Fashion designer Ridley Ethridge thinks she’s found the perfect, stable sort of guy in her childhood friend Will Reaver. With seduction in her sights, she arranges to rock Will’s world at an exclusive club that caters to those with adventurous and erotic appetites. What happens next is both intense and satisfying—until Ridley’s blindfold comes off to reveal Will’s twin brother. The same twin who broke her heart eight years ago.

Former soldier Garrett Reaver hasn’t ever gotten Ridley out of his system. And now that she’s before him in all her submissive glory? He’ll be damned before he lets someone else have her, especially his brother. Because Garrett and Ridley have some seriously unfinished business to take care of, and it starts now. And this time, he’ll show Ridley how exquisite a relationship with him could be…if their past doesn’t catch up to them first.

See where it all began with Tessa Bailey’s Owned by Fate and Exposed by Fate.

One word: WOW.

Oh, wait–I should do more of a review than that, huh? 😉

Mistaken by Fate is the third in the series, but the first by Katee Robert (Tessa Bailey wrote the other two: Owned by Fate andExposed by Fate ). I haven’t had a chance to read the others but had no problem following this one…and of course books 1 and 2 were added to the TBR before I was even halfway through with book 3.

Ridley and Garrett have a past–one she’s determined to get over, and he’s decided to forget. He comes into a room, and she leaves. He spends as much time as possible on missions that take him far away from wherever she is. Getting on with their lives should be easy-peasy, right?

Of course not.

Well, maybe it could have worked…if Ridley’s attempt to seduce Garrett’s “safe” twin hadn’t gone horribly wrong. (Will’s the star of book 4–I have a feeling we’re going to find out just how laughable Ridley’s label for him was, probably on page 2 or so.) Once Ridley and Garrett have a taste of exactly what Garrett walked away from eight years ago, neither one of them is going to be able to leave what they have behind–at least not easily.

Though Garrett’s going to try his best to make her leave him–the guy’s issues have issues.

In the meantime, they’re going to have lots of hot, dirty sex. LOTS of it.

Which naturally will make the whole moving-on-afterwards thing easier, right?

Mistaken by Fate was a fun, fast, and sexy read–I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this series!

And maybe Ridley’s best friend Sara (younger sister to the twins) could have book 5? 😉

Rating: 4 stars / A-

A Conversation with Jessica Jayne, Author of BOARD INDISCRETION (Taking Advantage #3)

Looking for a red hot novella to warm up your winter?

Welcome, Jessica! What 5 things should readers know about you?

  1. I get the biggest reward from being a mom and a wife. I know it sounds like the politically correct thing to say when you are a mother and wife, but it is the truth. No matter how bad a day I have at my day job or how cranky my time of the month may make me, a hug from my children or a kiss from my husband shows me that no matter what – life ain’t that bad!
  2. I LOVE the Ohio State Buckeyes!
  3. I’ve gone skydiving many times and have loved every second of it!
  4. I surfed in Hawaii – off the coast of Kona on the Big Island.
  5. The author that got me hooked on the romance genre was Eileen Goudge. If you’ve never read her, you’re missing out. Check out her Garden of Lies.

I don’t know if I’m more impressed by #3 or #4! Wow 🙂

Tell us all about your main characters – who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle?

Let’s see. Mark Olson is a business man in his early forties that always thought that by this stage of his life he’d have everything in order. But sometimes you marry the wrong person and he did, at a young age. Two daughters later and he doesn’t know what he’s done with his life. His wife hasn’t lovingly touched him in ages. He stayed in the marriage for years for the sake of his daughters, but he and his wife became so miserable that staying married seemed to be doing more harm than good. So they divorced and Mark went wild. For two years, he enjoyed his single life and a new woman regularly. He attempted to tell himself this was the life, but deep down he was lonely. In walks Suzannah McCormick!

Suzannah is a charming southern girl that warms the people around her with just a smile. She has a girl-next-door look but there’s a vixen inside of her that has just never been tapped. That is until Mark Olson takes her up on an offer and she realizes sex can be so much more than just two people trying to get off and she falls head over heels. Problem is she doesn’t know for sure if Mark is serious about her or if she’s just another notch on his bed post.

I asked both Mark and Suzannah what they’d need if they were stranded on a desert isle and here’s what they said:

Mark: Hmmm. I can bring just one thing? (I nod my head) That’s tough. Of course, if I was going to be stranded I’d want Suzannah with me, but I’m not counting her because that’s not fair. I obviously don’t want to be stranded alone. So, let’s see…I’d also bring a Swiss Army knife. It has multiple applications that would come in handy on a deserted isle. But if I have to count Suzie as my one thing, then screw the knife. We’ll just have to kill our food with our bare hands and carve our utensils with a rock.

Suzannah: Ugh. I hope I never get stranded on a deserted isle. Seriously. I’m a girly-girl. I don’t want to have to eat bugs or pee in the woods. (She shivers.) I don’t like camping. I guess I’d bring matches. It would help to start a fire to cook our food and keep us warm or provide a method to make a smoke signal for a boat passing by that could rescue us. God, I hope we’d get rescued quickly.

I am soooo with Suzannah on this one!

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

In my non-author life, I am an attorney for a corporation. I’m regularly thrust into situations that spark story ideas based on people I meet or circumstances I encounter. The idea for the Taking Advantage series developed as I sat outside the boardroom preparing to speak to our board of directors for the first time. I was nervous about having to stand in front of several very experienced business men and discuss legal matters with them. That anxiety scene can be found in the first book of the Taking Advantage series – Board Stiff.

As I sat there tapping my pen against the print out of my Power Point, a thought popped into my head – what if the board had young, drool-worthy members? How would they interact with each other? What would be their careers? How would they find love? I flipped over the front page of one of my slides and started taking notes. So developed John Dorsey (Board Stiff); Gregory Snow (Board Approved) and Mark Olson (Board Indiscretion).

I will say scratching out the story ideas before a big board meeting helped to alleviate my nerves and before I knew it, I was called in for my presentation – which went spectacularly! J

Sounds like a much better technique than the old classic “picture your audience in their underwear…”

How long have you been writing and what (or who) inspired you to start?

I’ve been writing since I was able to put pen to paper. I guess I always used it as a way of expression and release my creative side. I was always told I had a vivid imagination. I created several stories as a child where I even did the illustrations to my “books.” (I promise you – illustrating is not my talent! :))

During my sophomore year of high school, a senior level English teacher asked me to participate in a creative writing course. I was intimidated as I was one of only two non-seniors in the class. Mrs. B constantly encouraged my writing that year and for many years after. She’d always tell me to submit my writing, that I could be published. Life and probably fear of rejection got in my way for a long time. Several times a year, I’d get an email from Mrs. B asking if I submitted anything or if I had anything she could critique for me. Two years ago, I decided to just take the plunge. I submitted a novella in August of 2012 and it was published in November 2012 and I’ve never looked back!

Yes! Another English teacher FTW 🙂

What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

My most favorite part about being an author is the ability to create fascinating characters and tell their stories. It’s so much fun. Will the hero be a strong-headed firefighter or an alpha male surfer with a big heart? Will he have grown up privileged with non-present parents or was he from the wrong side of the tracks and his father a compulsive gambler? Will the heroine be strong willed with a history of bad luck with men? Or will she be quiet and reserved and not experienced at all? The process behind creating the characters to a story is fun. I get to go inside them and find out what makes them tick, what motivates them, why they feel the way they do. I get to bring them to life.

Because I am not currently writing full-time – I work as an attorney – the most challenging aspect of being an author is carving out the time to write. Aside from my legal career, I’m also a wife and mother to three young children. My days are jammed packed and I literally have to schedule time to sit down and write. It can be frustrating at times because I have all these stories going on in my head that want to get written. I have pages of notes on these stories so that I don’t forget them, but I just need to find the time to write.

Did anyone get extra time for Christmas? I ask for it every year, and keep hoping…

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

Hahahaha! I’m sorry! I don’t mean to laugh at this first question, but I find it hysterical because a better question would be what am I not working on. And that laugh, if you could hear it, would be a bit on the maniacal side. I have multiple WIPs in some phase or another. Twice I thought I would write a short story for an anthology submission and I just couldn’t stop writing, so they both went well beyond the anthology word count. Now, I have a story involving an office romance (Legal Desire) and one involving a firefighter, who falls for his feisty childhood best friend despite his efforts to not let her affect him (title is still in the works). I’m also working on an erotic romance involving a twenty-five year old man that falls for his parents’ neighbor, who is seven years his senior and recently divorced. Love Thy Neighbor is a steamy story about passion and figuring out who you are and what you want out of life. I fell in love with the two main characters right away. I’m also working on an anthology with three of my best author girlies – DC Stone, Lea Bronsen and Cait Jarrod. We are each writing one of four best friends’ stories. We are still flushing out the girls’ friendships, but I think it will be fantastic. I have a few other WIPs simmering in the background, but to answer your second question, in 2015, I’m hoping to wrap these projects up and get them submitted…fingers crossed! 🙂

Sounds great!

What authors and/or books have inspired you?

This is a really good question. I’ve always been an avid reader. I love to read. And I’ve been inspired by many books and authors. I think the first book I read that made me think “I really want to do this too” was a book by Eileen Goudge, which I mentioned above – Garden of Lies. I went through a series of emotions reading that book. It tugged at my heart strings. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me fall in love. It broke my heart. I was so amazed I could get all of that from reading a book and it drove me to want to create the same kind of stories.

More recently, I read The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. I had very similar feelings throughout that book as I did when I read Garden of Lies. The characters were so real you could see them, taste them, touch them. Someday I’d love for someone to say that my characters and my stories had such a profound effect on them.

I’ve heard good things about Paullina Simons’ book. I’ll have to check out Eileen Goudge’s!

What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?

I started Deeper by Robin York a couple days ago. I blow through books pretty quickly, so by the time you post this, I may be on my next book, but so far I love it. It’s a New Adult book told in first person by both the hero and the heroine. The beginning of the story involves a young woman in college that did what I’m pretty sure many have done these days with cell phones and social media – she texted her boyfriend sexy photos of herself and allowed him to take photos of her in compromising positions. Well, that didn’t work out too well for her after they broke up. The story involves the trauma of her experience and her fight to get her life back and on track, including finding someone to love her as she is. It’s a touching story and I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

Read it, loved it!

Keep reading to find out more about Jessica and her latest book, BOARD INDISCRETION…and check out her blog post (and an excerpt) here, if you haven’t already.

Author Meghan Quinn (BEING A JETT GIRL–The Burbon series) Shares her Official Food Guide to NOLA

Warning–this post might make you hungry!

Being a Jett Girl BT

The Official Meghan Quinn Food Guide to New Orleans

If you are ever lucky enough to visit New Orleans, you need to take advantage of all the amazing cafes and restaurants, especially in the French Quarter, here are a couple of suggestions…

Café Du Monde – You MUST go here and eat your life’s worth of delicious, fluffy beignets.  I recommend you get there early because this place gets packed with tourists and locals.  And if you roll in here hung over and unable to think, don’t worry because all you really need to figure out is how many beignets you want and if you would like to drink.  Literally that’s it.

Oceana – Mardi Gras Pasta.  Get it.  It’s a delicious feast of pasta, Cajun cream sauce, and seafood.  This is first dinner I had during my first trip to the Big Easy and have required it on my following two visits because it’s just that good!

Cajun Food – Eat as much as your stomach will allow!  Gumbo, shrimp etouffee, crawfish, red beans and rice, jambalaya, po boys, boudin, anything that says creole or Cajun in the title, and just as much seafood as you can.  New Orleans is a foodies paradise.

Drinks – DAIQUIRIS!!!  The daiquiri is literally the unofficial (maybe even official?!) drink of Louisiana.  Every bar along Bourbon St. has a wall of every flavor you could ever imagine of the liquid gold. These flavored alcoholic concoctions will glaze over the dirtiness of Bourbon Street, making your night out more enjoyable.

Desserts – Please, dear reader, learn from my mistake.  My first thought about dessert when going to NOLA (if you want to sound like a cool local, this is how they refer to New Orleans) was bananas foster because it was literally created here.  Well, I searched high and low and couldn’t find this dessert to save my life!  Instead, settle for bread pudding and pecan pie, you will not regret it! I promise.

Happy eating!!

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn’t take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn’t until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven’t turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged.

Being a Jett Girl Synopsis:

How did I become a Jett Girl?

Hell if I know, one moment I’m working at the premiere spot for creepy men and sloppy drunks and the next, I’m being whisked away by a moody ex-boxer and a mysterious man in a suit that overlooks his girls from the third floor of the Lafayette Club.

It wasn’t easy but now that I’m a Jett Girl, there is only one thing on my mind and that is Jett Colby.

He has captured me, stolen my heart and entwined my soul into his at such an alarming rate that it seems almost difficult to breathe without him holding me, touching me, kissing me…

He won’t give me his heart though, he won’t let me own every last inch of him and not because he doesn’t want to, but because he doesn’t want to jeopardize my ambiguity.

Because of this, there is only one thing standing in my way when it comes to completely and utterly living my life with Jett Colby and it’s called Lot 17.

Author Jessica Jayne (BOARD INDISCRETION–Taking Advantage #3) Talks About the Emotional Challenges of Being an Author

Later on today I’ll be posting an interview with Jessica as well–check it out here!

How to Deal With the Emotional Challenges of Being an Author (or Just a Human Being)

I think we are all aware of the some of the obstacles that can challenge a writer. Short on time? Yep, that has happened to me. Writer’s block? Been there… done that. Computer crashes? Yes, and it’s devastating. We give advice on how to overcome these sort of situations. Schedule time in your day to write. Just write, even if it’s crap, just write. Eventually you’ll get over the block. Back up! Back up! Back up your work!

But what about when these things happen to you and you find yourself stuck, disappointed and overwhelmed…so much so you can’t even put pen to paper, so-to-speak. I’m speaking from experience here. Board Stiff was published in July 2013 and Board Approved was published in August 2013. I started drafting Board Indiscretion that fall with hopes of submitting in early 2014. I did some self-editing one day and the next morning when I went to open the document on my thumb drive, I got nothing. Nada! Zip! Zero! Zilch! The thumb drive had crapped out and I had lost all of my edits on the draft and despite being told numerous times to back everything up, I hadn’t backed up my edited version yet.

I was devastated and defeated. You spend so much quality time trying to create a great story and then it’s gone and it’s part of your own doing. I didn’t just have writer’s block. My frustration with myself was this insurmountable wall sitting in front of me keeping me from writing. I didn’t write for a few months. Nothing. I couldn’t even pull out the rough draft of the story and attempt to edit it again. I was completely deflated.

I wasn’t the first author to have had a computer crash with no back up. It wasn’t really the physical reality of that that threw me for the loop. No. I had the thumb drive out to a retrieval/recovery company within days. It took them two months to recover everything on the drive, but they did. Thank God! What derailed me was the emotional aspect of the loss, the frustration and disappointment with myself. And this sort of thing can come from any aspect of your life…not just a broken thumb drive.

I had to have a heartfelt talk with myself. I determined that other aspects of my life were also contributing to my frustrations and I needed to find a way to alleviate the stress that was eating at me. I had self-imposed writing deadlines, which were sucking the joy out of one of the passions – writing – that fueled my soul. I erased all my deadlines for the time being.  I took up Bikram yoga and found those ninety minutes of 104 degrees to be cleansing of my mind, my soul and my body. I forgave myself. Yes, I know it seems silly, but I was angry with myself for not backing up those files and putting myself behind on my ridiculous “schedule.” Giving that forgiveness was freeing. Within a few days, I saw a post for an anthology submission dealing with an office romance and a story started flowing through my mind. For the first time in months, the adrenaline for creating some characters pumped through me. I became invigorated and sat down to craft my story. For a few weeks, I wrote and wrote. The submission guidelines required maximum of ten thousand words and I well surpassed that…I had thirty-seven thousand words. I couldn’t believe it but it felt so good.

In life, we get weighed down by all sorts of things. Life can hand out some crazy obstacles that, in turn, affect our emotional wellbeing. We need to remember to tend to those emotional issues just as much as the physical ones if we want to overcome or push beyond those obstacles. I eventually had Board Indiscretion returned to me and now it’s published and on a book blog tour. And that story I started drafting during my distraught phase is in the revision stage (which I’ve backed up :)) and should be to a publisher in early 2015! We can’t always control the things that come into our lives, but we can attempt to control how we let them control us!

Happy Holidays!

I am a born and raised small town Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. What college major could possibly be better than one that requires you to read novels and write about them!  After spending a year traveling, I attended law school and use that knowledge wisely.

In the journey of life, became a wife and a mother of three children. So, life is always an adventure.

I love to read and write… obviously! I’m a huge sports fan, especially college football and the Ohio State Buckeyes!  Go Steelers!  Go Rays! Go Lightning! I LOVE to travel… LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to travel. And I love sharing my love to travel with my children. Did I say I love to travel? I love to drink coffee in the morning and tea at night! I love a good glass of wine, especially if it comes from a bottle made by the FOOLS wine club… yep, I’m a founding member of that crazy group!  ☺  I love hanging out with my family and my friends!  Music makes me happy. I’m a mix between country girl and city chic. But I love nothing more than putting on my jean shorts, tank top, cowboy boots and hat and watching Tim McGraw or Eric Church belt it out!  I’m a sucker for a cowboy hat!

Since his divorce, he’d convinced himself that remaining single was what he wanted. It made things less complicated for his two pre-teen daughters. Shit! It made things less complicated for himself. But that lifestyle could also be quite lonely.

That’s where Suzie came in and complicated the hell out of his life. She was the executive assistant to the CEO of Advantage Insurance Company, Michael Herron, and well… Mark was a member of Advantage’s board of directors, had been for several years. He loved his position on the board. Aside from the small amount of prestige it carried, he’d made great friends with the other members, particularly the two younger board members—John Dorsey and Greg Snow. A relationship with Suzie could compromise his position on the board and with the members, but truth be told, he also loved his most recent position between her legs.

If only the situation was different.

A familiar giggle wafted in from the direction of the dance floor. The delicate sound stirred his cock to life. It stiffened against his black trousers instantly.  After several weeks of clandestine meetings involving dirty talk and hard fucks, he’d know that giggle anywhere. He’d heard it many times afterwards when they lay tangled in each other’s limbs. Turning his head in the direction of the dance floor, anger heated his face and his hands clenched into fists on the bar top at the sight he witnessed.

Sandwiched between two guys that he’d now refer to as dickheads, danced the woman that wreaked havoc on his single life status.  Her little black dress clung to her trim frame, emphasizing her small, but very perky breasts and showing off her figure that could easily grace the cover of any fashion magazine. Her legs stretched for miles and her creamy white skin contrasted nicely against the jet black of her dress. Flinging her silky blonde hair over her shoulder and down her back, her pink Pursecase carrying her iPhone dangled from her wrist as her hips gyrated against her two dance partners. The taller man dancing behind her slipped his hand over her hip and rested it over her low belly as he rubbed what Mark was sure to be a rock hard erection against Suzie’s ass.

What the fuck is she doing?

First, she never came to the Beach Club. Never. In all his regular visits to this club over the last couple of years, he had yet to see her in here once. Not once!  Second, she was practically dry-humping two guys in the middle of the dance floor. That wasn’t her typical style.

Suzie was one of those beautiful women that appeared to have the girl-next-door innocence. She didn’t dress too provocatively.  She was sexy, but in that way that was just natural. Her bubbly Southern charm won over all the men on the board of directors and Mark speculated it would win over anyone. He flirted with her, teasing her on board days to get a rise out of her. There’d always been a twinkle of mischief in her eyes when he flirted with her that would leave him questioning whether he knew her at all.

At last quarter’s board meeting, she left him dumbfounded when she responded to his flirtation with a proposition. After mulling it over for a bit, which actually had turned out to be a couple weeks, he called her bluff. He asked her over to his place for cocktails and she showed up. What he learned was that there was a lot more to Suzannah McCormick than met the eye. The rest was history.

Throwing back the last remnants of his whiskey, he stood from his stool, tossed some cash on the bar, and turned toward the dance floor. He wrestled with what his next move should be.
