Author Jessica Lee is here today, and she brought a friend!

Undying_Desire_300

Please allow me to introduce you today to Eve Devonshire, Mistress of The Roses Thorn. I’m Jessica Lee, author of Undying Desire, a novel of the Enclave. This is a rare opportunity to go behind the veil of a very reclusive female. She’s the daughter of the infamous vampire Marguerite Devonshire and the master vampire, Kenric St. James. Eve’s very existence relies on the utmost discretion and secrecy. You see, she’s a hybrid vampire. Half human, and half vampire. Something neither species ever knew existed, and as a result, there are those in the vampire community who are salivating to get their hands on her.

But since I’ve already exposed Ms. Devonshire’s story in Undying Desire, I couldn’t resist requesting a few minutes of her time to see if I can delve just a little deeper into her world.

First, here’s an introduction to Undying Desire:

Guerino Lombardi’s world just went to shit. Vampire and second in command of the Warriors of the Enclave, he’s put everything on the line to save his best friend from what has to be the worst blow a man can take. Kenric, his friend and master of the Enclave, has a daughter, something believed impossible in the vampire world, and word has it she wants her father and his Enclave dead. Guerin is determined to protect Kenric, keeping the secret from him until he knows for sure if this daughter really exists and if she wants revenge.

Eve Devonshire is a woman hiding in plain sight. Not completely human, but not quite a vampire, she’s accepted by neither race but is more powerful than either one. Her life has consisted of half-truths and disguises, never belonging or living in one place for any length of time. But now some have heard rumors of her existence and want nothing more than to trap her and dissect her like a lab rat.

To stay alive, Eve can’t trust anyone, including the alpha vampire with midnight eyes and a thirst for pain and submission. With her enemies nipping at her heels, Eve has Guerin cornered, and both are determined to get the answers they’re looking for or die trying…if they can fight their desires long enough.

Eve, thank you so much for agreeing to a few questions so your readers can get to know you a little better. I was fortunate enough to have been able to interview Kenric St. James, your father, in the past. In your own words, can you tell me a little about yourself.

“My father?” She leans forward in her seat, locking her gaze with mine. The effect, quite unsettling. “Listen, Ms. Lee, talking to me about my father is not the best way to get off on the right foot.”

Oh. I apologize. So you and your father don’t get along?

“How about we pretend you didn’t bring up Mr. St. James and move on to another subject. And if you feel that’s something you can’t do then out little chat is over.”

Okay, then. Moving on. What are you hobbies?

“Hobbies? Hmm… Outside of running The Rose’s Thorn.” She cocks her head, giving me a look that asked if I were really that stupid, then sat back and continued. “I’d say that would be staying alive. Staying far enough ahead of the vampires who want me dead. Yeah. I’d say that about covers my play time.”

I can imagine that gets pretty old and exhausting. Can you tell us who wants you dead and why?

“Most recently, there is one master vampire who’s obsessed with finding out if the rumors are true: a hybrid born vampire actually exists. He’s fixated on learning how my mother accomplished my conception and birth, and would love nothing more than to dissect me and find out all the secrets contained in my DNA.”

What is the biggest challenge you face in your story?

“Obviously, that would be keeping myself out of the clutches of my enemies, don’t you think?”

True. So what is the one event that you feel has helped to shape your personality?

“You really like to push my buttons, don’t you Ms. Lee?” Eve stands and moves toward the window, her elegant profile and long dark tresses silhouetted in the moon light. “I would say having to grow up without the presence of a father in my life. That, and having to constantly move and change my identity, never being able to allow myself to get too attached to anyone would affect a person’s personality.”

Yes, I would agree. Based on the answer to the hobby question, I should be able to predict the answer to my next question, but I’ll risk it and ask anyway. Is there any time for romance in your life?

Eve whirls around. “You can’t seriously believe I’d have time or be so foolish as to trust any man beyond what pleasure he can briefly offer me?”

I figured as much. But seeing as you are the owner of The Rose’s Thorn, can I assume your taste when it comes to the bedroom lies more toward the exotic?

“My mother was a powerful vampire.” She smiles. “She was a female who very much liked to be in control at all times. And I am my mother’s daughter when it comes to that aspect of my life. I appreciate a man who knows what he wants and who will trust me to know how and when to give it to him.”

That’s what I thought. I check the next question on my list.

Favorite indulgence?

Eve slips back onto her seat and crosses her legs. “Are you referring to food or sex?”

Uhm… Let’s try to keep things as close to PG-13 as possible and stick to food.

“Fine.” She shrugs. “Your show.” Eve closes her eyes as if savoring a few memories, then opens them again. “Chocolate truffles. Dark chocolate precisely.”

I’m with you there, Eve. How about pets. Do you have any?

Her expression twists as if I’ve brought up a painful subject once again. “No. Why become overly attached to anything when you’re only going to have to say goodbye and let it go? Why put yourself through that kind of heartache.”

What is the one thing you want most in the whole world?

This time her expression sobers, and she meets my gaze. “How would you answer that question, Ms. Lee?”

I don’t think the world wants to know my answer. They’re more interested in how you, Marguerite’s daughter, would answer.

She blinks, then glances away, focusing her gaze on some distant point in the room. “I assume I would desire what any human female wants: a safe place to call home. Maybe love?” She chuckles and returns her attention to me. “I may be a couple of centuries old, but hey, a girl can dream, right?”

Yes, a girl certainly can. Thank you, Eve for your patience with all my questions and for your frank honesty. I also appreciate your tolerance with me revealing the rest of your story. Something tells me that wish of yours may just come true.

And I’d like to thank you, the reader for taking the time to stop by and learn a little more about Eve Devonshire and Undying Desire.

Be careful in the dark. You never know what might be waiting for you there.

Author Bio:

Almost every author’s bio states they’ve been writing since they learned how to read. It’s what they’ve always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn’t so straight and narrow. I was a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor’s degree in science with a major in biology. So as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn’t discover my passion for the craft until after I’d had my son and decided to work part-time.

I’ve always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning’s Spell of the Highlander. I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing, and I immediately fell in love with the genre.

I wanted to write like that. I wanted to create worlds where others could find the same escape and fascination I did when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.

And I hope that’s what I’ve accomplished in my work. Please dive in, hold on tight, and enjoy the adventure. Just be careful in the dark—you might find more than you expected waiting for you there.
