FBI Special Agent Paige Carson hoped she’d be able to start a new life in small-town South Carolina. But when a senator’s sister is murdered and a blank postcard is left next to the body, Paige realizes that a killer from her past has found her–and is sending her a very personal message.

From the moment he hired her, FBI Special Agent in Charge Sam McKade knew Paige was hiding something. Prompted by this recent threat, she finally opens up: one year ago, she caught the eye of suspected serial killer Todd Thames. Now he’s come back to pull her into his game, whether she wants to play or not.

As the danger increases, Paige and Sam give in to their growing attraction, and he vows to protect her no matter the cost. But the murderer will stop at nothing to get to his intended prey, and the strong arm of the law–and the shelter of her new love–may not be enough to save her.

Re-Release Review! THE DO-GOODER by Jessie L. Star

The Do-Gooder
by Jessie L. Star

Synopsis:

A college girl tries to make up for her bad karma by doing one good deed for anyone willing to ask—a witty, sweet romance perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Abbi Glines.

Lara Montgomery is no good. Having been scorned by her classmates since high school, she’s used to it. From where she’s sitting, the one with more notches on the bedpost has more fun anyway. At least, that’s what she tells herself.

Really, a small part of her hopes that her massive amounts of bad karma can be neutralized by wearing her Do-Gooder hat—that thing she does where she’ll complete one good deed for anyone who asks. And she does an amazing job at it, if she does say so herself. Still, there’s one thing she knows she can’t make better, no matter how many problems she solves for other people: on the night her brother died, she was off hooking up with his not-so-single best friend, Fletch.

It’s been three years since that night, and Fletch just wants her to let it go. To him, her persistence with the good deeds only serves to remind everyone in their small university town about what they did. As it is, they can’t help but get into a heated argument every time they run into each other on campus. And yet, neither of them can seem to stop that pesky electricity that runs between them whenever they get too close….

Review:

Originally I thought the premise of this story sounded pretty good–could be cute, definitely showed promise. I started the book, and initially wasn’t terribly crazy about Lara’s character. She’s just so darn prickly and jaded, it felt like an effort to get to know her. Fletch showed some promise, though, so I kept reading.

I’m not even sure what point I was at–30%? 40%?–when I suddenly realized that I really did care an awful lot about both Fletch and Lara. The more she revealed herself to the reader, the more sympathetic Lara became, and soon it started to feel like my life was going to be negatively affected if those two crazy kids couldn’t manage to end up together in the end. Seriously, there were multiple parts in that last 20% that nearly had me in tears.

I’m not sure how much of that all was in the original version, but I can absolutely say that I recommend the rewrite! I’m putting Ms. Star on my list of authors to watch 🙂

Grand Finale Blitz and Giveaway! THE SEAL’S RETURN by Patricia Potter (Home to Covenant Falls #4)

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
The SEAL’s Return
By Patricia Potter

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out…

Launch – Author Interview

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

That they respect the military and reach out with a helping hand and understanding heart. And that love can often conquer even the greatest obstacles.

Nicole’s Book Musings – Welcome to Covenant Falls!

Covenant Falls is a very special town in Colorado. It has become a healing place for returning vets with the assistance of rescue animals and a quirky town population.

Three former vets – a wounded ex-Army Ranger, an Army chopper pilot and an Army battlefield surgical nurse – have found belonging, a home. . . and love there.

The newest residents are former Navy Seal Jubal Pierce and Dr. Lisa Redding in the February release of “The SEAL’s Return.” And their romance is the most troubled-filled of all.

With Love for Books – Review

“Patricia Potter writes about troubled pasts in an emphatic way. I could easily understand the emotions of her main characters. What I loved about The SEAL’s Return the most is the way she writes about animals. . . . The SEAL’s Return is a captivating story about both people and animals and I enjoyed reading it very much.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

Jubal Pierce plucked the letter he’d received yesterday from the trash can. He’d read it, then discarded it. This time he reread it slowly and considered the proposal.

Hearts & Scribbles – Building a Fictional Town

When I started writing “A Soldier’s Promise,” the first in my Home to Covenant Falls series, I knew I had a problem. All my other books were set in an actual place: Atlanta that I knew well, Memphis that I knew nearly as well, Boston that I had visited many times. But now I was writing a book in which a small town is a character in the book. I wanted it to be a little quirky, and quite obviously I couldn’t use a real one where everyone knows everyone. The only solution was to build my own town.

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“Sometimes what you are not looking for, is just what you need most in the world! Patricia Potter takes us on an emotional journey of healing as we head back to Covenant Falls, Colorado to see the latest veteran to plan on just passing through and end up finding more than he was even looking for!”

The Silver Dagger Scriptorium – Creating the Perfect Couple

I like to create the perfect couple by creating the two people who are decidedly imperfect for each other.

When I start a book, I usually have a hero – or heroine – in mind and then visualize the polar opposite. My new book is a perfect example. I hope I have readers wonder how these two can ever resolve their differences.

Falling Leaves – Excerpt

She looked up to see two men enter Maude’s. One was Eve’s husband. The other man caused her breath to catch in her throat.

Lisa didn’t know why, exactly. It wasn’t because he was cover-model handsome. But there was something about him that was strikingly different.

EskieMama & Dragon Lady Reads – Researching a Book

One of my favorite aspects of writing is research. I have endless curiosity about nearly everything and everyone. I truly enjoy it when writing takes me to new places.

In The SEAL’s Return, I went on many journeys through Google. The first, of course, was about SEALs, the training they take, the type of missions they undertake, the various ranks, etc.

Angels With Attitude Book Reviews – Review

“I really enjoyed this story especially about a wounded hero who put his own suffering aside to help another. How could you not fall in love with a fellow like that?It really reminds you there is Hope and Joy for all of us within our reach. An enjoyable story about love and sacrifice that tugged at the readers emotions.”

Babs Book Bistro – Review

“The characters are ones you want to get to know and see good things happen to. I love how the author has Lisa as a caring and not a judgmental person. She cares a great deal for people. Jubal is always there for Gordon when he really needs someone. I like how everyone interacts and makes the story a real page turner.”

Cafinated Reads – Review

“This is a story of hope, belonging and finding that one true love that will heal all wounds, past and present. I will be going back and grabbing up books 1-3 if they are all as amazing as this book! Jubal’s character stole my heart instantly. Lisa’s character was chiseled perfectly, in my opinion. Definitely a keeper, if you ask me! This book is deserving of 4.5 stars and the highest “hats off” praises you can give!”

New Release and Giveaway! COLLEGE LIFE 101: FRESHMAN ORIENTATION by J. B. Vample

College Life 101: Freshman Orientation
by J.B. Vample
Genre: NA Contemporary Fiction
Release Date: December 18th 2015

Summary:

Leaving home for the first time to attend college is stressful enough. But when the roommate lottery of Paradise Valley University strikes, it produces couples who have absolutely nothing in common; causing personality clashes which takes the stress to a whole new level. Dismay hits Sidra Howard, the prim and proper princess, when she contemplates spending an entire semester with Chasity Parker, the troubled beauty with a sharp tongue and even sharper claws. Malajia Simmons, a boy crazed, attention seeking diva, is no happier. Not only does she get stuck with the upper bunk bed, she has to share a triple room with Alexandra Chisolm, a nosey and overbearing, self proclaimed “know-it-all”. But even the meddling Alexandra isn’t as bad as Emily Harris, the shy, mommy’s girl with a non-existent backbone.

Coming to college to escape her home life, Chasity hopes to get through the semester without any problems. Her hopes are tainted once she begins to have to resist the advances of a determined football star, on top of dealing with family drama which seems to have followed her. Alexandra’s need to fix everyone’s problems not only rubs her roommates the wrong way, it also causes her to fall blind to the problems brewing with the boyfriend that she left behind. Eventually she’ll be forced to face the issues head on. Emily’s refusal to come out of her shell is too much to handle for party girl Malajia, whose main purpose is to have fun and be seen. The same doesn’t apply to Sidra, who’s more concerned with trying to keep her over-the-top stress level under control.

These five young women try to handle family drama, pressure, and conflicts; all while trying to maintain their grades. They quickly learn that college life isn’t what they expected and must adapt to their new environment if they ever hope to make it through their first semester.

Excerpt:

Sidra sucked her teeth. Seriously? she thought, of all the colleges in this country, we had to pick the same one. She had known Malajia for years. Right up until their second year of high school, they had been friends. Then the arguments started, and they drifted apart. They didn’t have anything in common anymore; their new personalities and interests clashed. It was a relief when Malajia and her family moved to Baltimore.

“So I take it that you two know each other,” Alex concluded.

Sidra rolled her eyes, “Unfortunately, yes.”

“You act like knowing you is a joy,” Malajia snapped.

Sidra huffed, “Still loud and extra.”

“And you still overdress,” Malajia shot back.

“Ah, here we go with the comments about my damn clothes.” Sidra dismissed her negative comments by elegantly tossing her hands in the air. All through high school she had been the butt of snide remarks. She ignored them and never attempted to dress down.

“So? You started it, you snobby, prissy, freak,” Malajia shot back, pointing at her.

Emily hated it when people argued, and petty arguments simply annoyed Chasity. Both girls, so unalike in personalities, reacted in a similar fashion. They turned away, trying to pretend that Sidra and Malajia were not sitting a couple of feet away.

“Come on you two, that’s enough,” Alex interrupted, her patience exhausted. Malajia and Sidra startled, stopped arguing, and sat back like two children whose mother had told them to be quiet. “We’re in college now,” Alex reminded. “Whatever happened between you two in the past needs to stay there.”

“Whatever Alexandra,” Malajia responded acerbically. “Save that nonsense for this girl over here,” she advised, pointing to Chasity. “She looks like she needs a good talking to.”

“Bitch, I’ll beat that fake ass hair color off your head,” Chasity threatened, gesturing to Malajia’s burgundy locks

“I’d pay to see that.” Sidra cracked up laughing.

Malajia rolled her eyes at Sidra, then focused on Chasity. “Was that really necessary?”

“You shouldn’t have said anything to me. That was your mistake,” Chasity pointed out.

Alex decided to diffuse the situation. She leaned over and introduced herself to the sullen girl. “Hey, I’m Alex. What’s your name?”

“Why are you talking to me?” Chasity snarled with a cold bluntness that took Alex aback. Chasity had insulted Malajia, but Alex figured it was payback for saying something smart to her first. She didn’t think that she would snap over a simple introduction.

“Alex, this ball of sunshine is my roommate Chasity,” Sidra interjected in a not-so-enthused tone.

“You won’t be my roommate for long,” Chasity threatened.

“What are you going to do? Kill me? Because that’s the only way that you’re going to get me out of that room,” Sidra shot back.

“Don’t tempt me Princess,” Chasity warned.

“Will you two stop it?” Alex butted in sternly, her patience worn out. “Can we all just start over? I think that if we can do that, then we’re all gonna end up being the best of friends.”

The four girls stared at her, dumbfounded at the insane suggestion.

Alex shrugged, “We could,” she maintained.

New Release Review and Giveaway! ANY BOY BUT YOU by Julie Hammerle (North Pole, MN #1)

Any Boy but You
North Pole, Minnesota #1
by Julie Hammerle
Publication Date: February 13, 2017
Publisher:  Entangled: Crush

Elena Chestnut has been chatting with an anonymous boy late into the night. It’s a very You’ve Got Mail situation, and she has no idea who he is. He can’t be Oliver Prince, hot-and-bashful son of the family running the rival sporting goods store. Their fancy sales strategies are driving Elena’s family out of business. Elena’s mystery boy has teamed up with her in their latest sales strategy, an augmented reality game, to help her win the grand-prize plane tickets. Money’s so tight Elena’s going to miss senior year spring break with her friends if she can’t win this game.

The girl Oliver’s fallen head-over-heels for online had better not be Elena Chestnut. She’s his angry, vindictive Latin tutor, the daughter of his dad’s business rival, and the one girl he’d never even think of kissing. She’s definitely not his online crush, because that girl is funny, sweet, and perfect.

When Oliver asks to reveal their names at the Valentine’s Day dance, their IRL relationship will either ruin what they have online, or they’ll discover just how thin the line between love and hate really is.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains swearing, snowball fights, and sexual tension that could melt the North Pole. Read at your own risk.

Review:

A super-cute modern YA version of You’ve Got Mail (or technically, of the original–The Shop Around the Corner) with a bit of Romeo and Juliet feuding families-style drama added in, I really liked Any Boy But You. Both Oliver and Elena had their less-than-sympathetic moments–he was pretty judgmental at first on nothing more than his dad’s say-so, and she was over-the-top nasty at times, but that just made everything all the more sweet when they realized the errors of their ways, got a clue, and went above and beyond to make things better.

The ending was a bit rushed–we don’t get a whole lot of satisfactory Oliver and Elena time before the final page–but it’s pegged as the first in a new series, so fingers crossed that we’ll see plenty of them together and being cute in the books that are to come.

(Is it wrong to say I was about ready to cheer for the Chinese restaurant that insisted on calling itself “The Chinese Restaurant” instead of “Away in a Lo Mein-ger”, though? Because those Christmas-themed business names got to be a bit much at times…)

New Release and Giveaway! SAVED BY DARKNESS by Katie Reus (Darkness series)

Saved by Darkness
by Katie Reus
Darkness Series
Publication Date: February 21, 2017
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

He thought he lost her decades ago.

Half-demon, half-dragon shifter Ian McCabe is hellbent on getting back the only woman he’s ever loved. When Fiona O’Riley kicked him out of her life decades ago, he thought she was gone for good. Now that she’s back, nothing will stop him from claiming her. But she wants nothing to do with him—or his family.

She’ll do anything to save him.

Fiona knows that Ian is the only male for her. The only way to keep him alive is to stay away from him. But when tragedy strikes and they discover a wicked agenda for the mass murder of humans, they must work together to take down the enemies that threaten everyone. But there’s so much more on the line. As their undeniable desire intensifies, they’re faced with an unbearable choice. If Fiona and Ian succumb to their temptation, mating could be the last thing they ever do.

Excerpt:

“I swear to all that is holy,” Finn growled in front of Ian as he stalked across the dance floor. “You and I are coming to blows later.”

Ian ignored the Alpha. Ignored everything but Fiona, who was staring at him from across the room in shock and maybe a little horror. The knife in his chest twisted at the sight.

He’d come to Bo’s club to find a spot so he could simply get another glimpse of Fiona without being seen. He’d known she was meeting Finn here in a couple hours. Apparently she’d arrived early.

When Finn had actually told him to leave, tried to order him away? Yeah…he might have burned a few cars in the parking lot to ash. No one was going to keep him from Fiona.

He was aware that his behavior was insane. He didn’t care. He’d committed to this and wouldn’t back down now. His demon half could be such an asshole and there was no way in hell he’d been able to simply not show up when he’d learned Fiona would be here.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Rory and Liberty stand. When Fiona broke his gaze, as if she was looking for someone—her mate?— he glanced at his brother. Whatever Ian’s expression was, it was clear enough that no one better mess with him now. Rory took Liberty’s hand and moved away from the booth, his expression grim.

Ian tuned them both out as he and Finn reached Fiona—who was looking a lot like a dragon caught in headlights.

Finn cleared his throat. “Fiona O’Riley, I’m Finn Stavros. Officially.” The Alpha held out a hand, his actions perfectly polite.

Ian still growled low in his throat. He’d never liked anyone touching Fiona. Not even a happily mated male like Finn. Right now he wanted to slice off the Alpha’s hand. Fiona looked the same, but different. It was…strange. Still incredibly tall and beautiful, her dark hair was longer than he remembered and was free of any restraints as it flowed down over her unfortunately covered breasts. Not that he wanted another male to see her, but he remembered what she looked like naked. Remembered every single inch,

Cover Reveal! CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE by Jill Shalvis (Heartbreaker Bay #4)

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes the next sexy, standalone novel in the Heartbreaker Bay series…

CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE - banner

About CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE:

Meet cute…

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

Make merry…

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spencer immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

…and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

EXCERPT:

The bathroom door opened, and even better than his fantasy, Colbie emerged from a cloud of steam, her willowy body wrapped in one of his towels, her exposed skin gleaming and dewy damp. Her hair had been piled on top of her head, but wavy strands had escaped, clinging to her neck and shoulders.

He couldn’t tear his gaze off of her. There was just something so uncalculated about her, so . . . natural and easy. She was like a beacon to him, which was both crazy and more than a little terrifying.

Clearly not seeing him against the wall, she moved with an effortless grace to the suitcase she’d left at the door. Bending low enough to give him a near heart attack, she rifled through her things, mumbling to herself that she should’ve researched more about how to be a normal person instead of how to kill someone with an everyday object.

“Do you kill a lot of people, then?” Spence asked.

“Motherforker!” she said with a startled squeak of surprise, whirling to face him, almost losing her grip on the towel.

Five days a week, Spence worked out hard in this gym. Mostly to outrun his demons, but the upside was he could run miles without losing his breath. But he lost his breath now.
