New Release Review and Giveaway! ROMANCING THE BACHELOR by Diane Alberts (Hamilton Family #2)

He’s not going to know what hit him…

ROMANCING THE BACHELOR
Hamilton Family #2
Diane Alberts
Releasing May 15th, 2017
Entangled Indulgence

Eric Hamilton isn’t looking for love. Hell, he isn’t even looking for a girl. He has a five-year plan, and he’s one hundred percent focused on that. But then Shelby walks into his life, and suddenly, he can’t think about anything else. Unfortunately for him, she hates his guts, and wants nothing to do with him. But he’s a man who loves a challenge.

Shelby Jefferson can’t wait to get out of the city, and back to her country roots. She moved to Atlanta for a guy who promptly left her, and the last thing she wants is to fall for another man who might make her want to stay. But Eric is nothing if not persistent, and before long she’s inside his arms, in his bed, and she’s falling for him. Hard. But when history repeats itself, and she has to choose between a man and herself––again.

He patted his pockets and turned around to pick up his jacket. His muscles flexed under his shirt, something the fabric did nothing to hide. He wore a gray suit, and the pants hugged his rear. And when he turned around…sweet baby Jesus.

It hugged other things, too.

Things she’d been without for over two years now.

He faced her and froze. He stared at her again, taking in her red dress, and the heels she’d carefully put on earlier. She never wore heels. Or tight dresses. But tonight…

What was she doing?

This was a horrible idea.

“Christ, Shelby, you’re beautiful.” He ran his knuckles down her bare arm, leaving behind a tingling sensation that quickly turned into red-hot need. His nostrils flared, and he stepped closer, reading her reaction to him like an open book and clearly liking what he saw. “I want to kiss you. Right here. Right now.”

Her stomach tightened in response, and she pressed a hand to it as her breath quickened. It didn’t help. Nothing would. Nothing except…him. He seemed unaware of her internal struggle as he rested a hand on her lower back. His touch burned through the fabric, scorching her skin, and he stepped closer. His cologne teased her nose, and she breathed it in, swaying closer.

That was all it took.

He lowered his face, his mouth an inch from hers as he—

No. No, no, no, no.

“Can I have a second, please?” she blurted as she sidestepped him.

He frowned, letting go of her instantly, his forehead wrinkled with confusion. “Yes, of course.”

She bolted into the bathroom, closing the door and taking deep breaths. The room spun, and all she could think, all she could feel, was his hand on her, and her reaction to it.

This was a bad idea.

Horrible.

Yet, if she didn’t see this through, if she didn’t show him she was the wrong girl for him in the most obvious way possible, then he’d keep throwing those heated stares her way, like he had today in court, and he’d haunt her forever.

Eventually, if he kept staring at her like he was starving and she was his next meal, she’d give in and let him win gobble her up. She couldn’t let that happen.

This had to end tonight.

“Shelby?” he called out, knocking lightly on the door. “Look, if you changed your mind, we can just cancel the date and—”

She opened the door, meeting his eyes. “I didn’t change my mind. I just”—needed a second to breathe—“had to powder my nose again. My makeup was uneven.”

He eyed her suspiciously but stepped aside so she could come out. “If you’re sure. I’d never want you to think you had to go out with me. If you’re not interested, then I’ll go home. No harm done. I’ll leave you alone.”

But he wouldn’t. Not really.

She had to make him not want her anymore.

A fun read!

I really enjoyed both Eric and Shelby’s early relationship (she won’t give him the time of day, he’s determined to win her over like a gentleman instead of his usual manwh*rish persona) and their “friendship”–because man, can he pull out all the stops when he wants to, and even though Shelby really is pretty wowed by him (abs. And butt. And actually a nice guy in there somewhere) she still gives even better than she gets in their relationship. And though he’s never done it before, Eric does give a good grovel.

You gotta love a good grovel.

Which admittedly he wouldn’t have needed if he hadn’t turned into a total tool at about 80%–even though what seemed like it was going to be their black moment was caused by a non-communication issue (not my favorite plot device, but here it was fairly believable) was Eric content with that? Oh, no–he had to take it to the next level of WTFery and nearly lost me–but the aforementioned groveling saved him and the story.

Romancing the Bachelor is the second in the Hamilton Family series, but worked just fine as a standalone.

With one friend set on pushing the boundaries and the other afraid to rock the boat, one thing’s for certain—their story would make one heck of a country song.

Review:

The Nanny Arrangement is an excellent example of one of my favorite troupes–friends-to-lovers. Hannah and Deacon are absolutely adorable together, whether it’s their very first interaction or their one thousandth. When you add in Deacon’s two-year-old son Max, it’s pretty much sweetness overload.

The two main reasons the two of them haven’t gotten together yet are 1) Hannah’s certainty that Deacon is beyond her reach (kind of annoying, since they started in pretty much the same place) and 2) Deacon’s certainty that he can’t have nice things because in the end everyone lets him down (also kind of annoying, because in ten years Hannah and her family have been there for him, even though his family and ex haven’t been). And yes, some actual, adult conversation between the two of them probably would have cleared everything up–and yet, this book ended up working for me anyway, even though those factors are usually deal breakers. I’m going to give credit to Ms. Harris’s writing and such likable characters that I’m willing to overlook their flaws.

The Nanny Arrangement is the second book in the series (third, if you want to count Tyler and Sherry’s book, Accidentally Married on Purpose, which is actually part of a previous series but clearly connected, as Tyler’s the lead singer of the band) but could be read as a standalone. Certain aspects of the story–things happen for both of the H/hs from the other books here–will have more meaning if you’ve read the other stories, but it’s not necessary if you haven’t yet.

New Release Review! RIPTIDE by Skye Jordan (Renegades #8)

Riptide

by Skye Jordan

Synopsis:

When pro surfer Zach Ellis isn’t traveling the world-wide competition circuit, he works as a Renegade stunt double for the hit TV series, Hawaiian Heat. After years of tangling with the ocean, his body has paid the price. So when he gets a shot at a star role on the show, Zach’s all in. He celebrates the career opportunity by taking a chance on a woman who’s not his usual island-girl type, only to discover he can’t bear to let her go.

Tessa Drake belongs mired in legislation battles in Washington DC, not standing on the sidelines of a filming set in Maui like a wannabe starlet. But even more important than her law career, Tessa needs Zach Ellis’s signature on legal papers. Papers that relinquish his parental rights so Tessa can adopt the girl who already calls her mommy. When she discovers Zach has slipped out of town before she makes contact, Tessa takes solace in the sexy star of Hawaiian Heat. A man whose warmth and dazzling grin makes her Mensa-level IQ vanish into thin air.

After an electrifying night together, Tessa is horrified to discover just who rocked her world. Zach is stunned to learn he’s a father. And both find themselves caught in a riptide pulling them in the opposite direction of their dreams.

Review:

These two females were like riptides. They’d snuck up on him, grabbed hold, and dragged him under.

Riptide is a secret baby story…with a few complicated twists. It’s my first read in the Renegades series, and at first I was a bit overwhelmed–the whole Zach/Ian aspect of the plot (how Tessa managed to confuse the two was a clever plot twist, but it added to my wait, what’s going on…? feeling at first ;)), and who exactly the Renegades were–but everything soon smoothed itself out, and just like Zach, I found myself sucked into the story and dragged into the lives of the characters.

Tessa. Sophia (OMG, what a cutie. And what a three-year-old. Poor Tessa and Zach!) And Zach. Three characters who it’s pretty much impossible not to root for–and yep, what a ride they take us on!

So yes, my first book in this series will absolutely not be my last!

New Release Review! SAYING I DO by Tracey Alvarez (Stewart Island #8)

Saying I Do

by Tracey Alvarez

Synopsis:

Marriage and happily-ever-after are for suckers…

Joe Whelan was fooled once on the way to the altar, and the Irish doctor isn’t about to be an eejit over a woman again. Especially not one who witnessed his broken-hearted humiliation years ago. He won’t be swayed by the sparks that fly whenever his eyes meet MacKenna’s or distracted by her sweet kisses. The only thing Joe cares about is preventing his sister from making the biggest marital mistake of her life.

MacKenna Jones loves a good wedding—so long as she’s sewing the bride’s gown, not walking down the aisle herself. Falling for Joe Whelan’s sexy bedside manner wasn’t on the cards, neither was a seven-day road trip with him to Las Vegas, the Marriage Capital of the World. When the stakes are so high, will these two gun-shy cynics ever say I Do?

SAYING I DO is the eighth story in Tracey Alvarez’s best-selling Stewart Island books set against the stunning backdrop of Aotearoa, New Zealand. If you like heart-warming, sexy & seductive small-town romances with a touch of humor, you’ll love sharing the journey with these authentic men and women struggling to find their special someone.

Review:

Another great addition to the Stewart Island series–and an enemies-to-lovers, to boot! Can’t go wrong 🙂

I really liked MacKenna and Joe’s story–enemies-to-lovers can be so much fun, especially when we get to see the whole push-pull of not really liking the person you’re totally attracted to dynamic from both characters’ POV. Hearing their internal dialogue as they try to resist, and seeing them give into it anyway is always such delicious fun–and Mac and Joe were definitely a great example of the troupe!

I have to admit, Ms. Alvarez had me a teensy bit worried at about the 80-something% mark–though I was excited about the turn the story was taking, what the two of them were doing didn’t feel quite right…and then it all went very, very wrong–but I should have known better. Everything worked out exactly as it should have in the end, and everybody stayed in character on their way to their HEA. Win-win!

And…can I just say? That cover? As swoon-worthy as the story!

Probably more so than most of the others in the series, Saying I Do would work well as a standalone–though Mac’s Holly’s (Playing For Fun) cousin and several of the Due South/Stewart Island crew make brief appearances, Joe and Mac and some new characters that they bring along with them (Joe has brothers! And Mac’s got single co-workers…hint, hint) are really more of the focus here, so you’re not really at a loss if you haven’t read the other series books already. But seriously, do yourself a favor, and try them all 🙂

Review:

A sweet and sexy friends-to-lovers story!

I loved how the story began–Garrett and Lauren have been friends since the sixth grade, and close friends since adulthood. They tried–and spectacularly failed–to take things to the next level six months earlier, and Garrett, the legendary-but-secret (he thinks, since he only sleeps with tourists…you’d think he’d know better, living in a small town all of his life) “sex god” of Marfa, Texas is obsessed with his one and only fail between the sheets and determined to make it all better. So he devises a plan…

…which Lauren does her best to derail, with an assist from Garrett’s (ahem) other brain. (OMG, the talking-tos he had with that organ. And when it talked back? I’m pretty sure there was some snort-laughing going on over here.) What follows is all of the sexy, and most of the sweet, and an HEA it’s easy to get behind. True, just about every source of conflict here is due to Garrett’s being an idiot who’s slow to recognize what he really wants and needs, but fortunately he’s a quick learner and even better groveler.

Oh, and the sex god bit doesn’t hurt either.

New Release Review and Giveaway! REMEMBER ME FOREVER by Sara Wolf (Lovely Vicious #3)

Remember Me Forever
(Lovely Vicious #3)
by Sara Wolf
Publication Date:  May 2, 2017
Publisher:  Entangled Teen

Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, forty-three weeks, and two days. Or so she thinks.

The boy she maybe-sort-of-definitely loved and sort-of-maybe-definitely hated has dropped off the face of the planet in the face of tragedy, leaving a Jack Hunter–shaped hole. Determined to be happy, Isis fills it in with lies and puts on a brave smile for her new life at Ohio State University.

But the smile lasts only until he shows up. The menace from her past—her darkest secret, Nameless—is attending OSU right alongside her. And he’s whispering that he has something Isis wants—something she needs to see to move forward. To move on.

Isis has always been able to pretend everything is okay. But not anymore.

Isis Blake might be good at putting herself back together.

But Jack Hunter is better.

“What a rush! Brilliantly crafted, sharply written, and completely unpredictable–the perfect ending to an all-time favorite series! Sara Wolf is a fresh voice in YA, and her characters never fail to make me laugh and think. If you’re in the mood for an edgy, witty, one-of-a-kind romance, this is definitely for you!” —Rachel Harris, NYT bestselling author

Review:

I didn’t used to cry so much, and I want to tell her that, but I realize the story would be too long. You could fit in in, like, at least three books.

Isis Blake, Remember Me Forever, Lovely Vicious book 3

Phew, what an ending!

Okay, so some things were resolved just a little too quickly and nicely here, but since Isis is still Isis (OMG, her habit of thinking out loud. Cracks me up every. Single. Time) and Jack is still Jack (thank you, God) and I love, love, love them together and wanted an HEA for them more than almost anything, so…yeah. I can deal with a little too quick and nice. Because Isis and Jack.

This really isn’t a standalone–actually, I kind of wished I’d had time to re-read books 1 and 2 ( Love Me Never and Forget Me Always ) first, because it’d been a while. Stuff came back to me–there was a lot of oh, yeah, that happened… throughout–so I managed. But if you’re new to the series, do yourself a favor now that all three have been re-released and read them all at once.

I’m sad to say goodbye to Isis and Jack, but glad I got to see them through to their end–and looking forward to what Ms. Wolf has for us next!

TRYING IT ALL
Naked Men #4
Christi Barth
Releasing May 16, 2017

Order. Attention to detail. Never leaving anything to chance. These are the qualities that make Riley Ness such a terrific federal agent . . . and a pain in the ass to everyone else. The only time Riley lets loose is when he’s hanging out with his closest pals. So when he’s thrown together with gorgeous, flighty Summer Sheridan, Riley’s brain tells him she’s a ticking time bomb—but his body doesn’t want to play by the rules.
Riley has to be the most irritating man Summer has ever met. The brooding hunk thinks he needs to teach her a few lessons about real life, while she’d rather show him how to enjoy it. But her BFF’s all but engaged to Riley’s best friend, and besides, their intense physical chemistry is all too real. Summer just needs Riley to try to meet her halfway and take a chance with the one thing that matters: his heart.

“Living forever’s only fun if you truly live.”

That jab stung. Because it was the same riff the guys threw at him, over and over again. “I live. I just follow the rules. Obey the speed limit. Turn off my phone before the plane starts to taxi.”

Summer tossed her cloud of hair back. Gave him a knowing look. No, a knowing smirk. “Oh, I get it now.”

“What?”

“You’re not uptight. You’re chicken.”

The woman had crossed a line. He’d gone through wilderness training and survival training. He’d climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Become a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He’d pushed himself to physical and mental limits most men wouldn’t be able to attain. Being sensible? In no fucking way was it comparable to being scared.

Riley’s long strides ate up the distance between them. Furious, he spat out, “You want me to try something risky?”

“Yes. Just once. But I don’t think you’ve got the balls,” she taunted.

Riley grabbed her face with both hands. Her lips parted in surprise. And he swooped right onto them.

Her lips were soft. So soft and pliable it almost deterred him. But then . . . they were so soft and pliable that he couldn’t possibly stop. Instead of holding her still, his hands curved to cup the back of her head, his thumbs caressing those impossibly high cheekbones that gave her the look of someone made to walk a runway.

Riley nipped at her wide bottom lip. Soothed it with a stroke of his tongue that savored the sweet, lingering tang of the orange cream cheese icing on the cinnamon rolls from brunch. He wanted to keep going. To nip and bite and lick down her neck, over the side of the breasts she flashed at him all day. To gobble down her sweetness and spice just like he had those rolls.

Her moan refocused him. This wasn’t just following through on a dare anymore. This was a real kiss. A real moment of pure, physical pleasure. So he dropped his hands to the small of her back and hauled Summer tight against him.

Thanks to her ridiculous—and ridiculously sexy—high heels, everything lined up right. The notch between her thighs ground right against his dick behind the suddenly too-tight fly of his shorts. Breasts plumped against his chest. Breasts he was pretty sure he could fit entirely into his mouth . . . since he might have pictured them a time or ten since meeting her in the spring. Tight nipples insistently poked at his pecs.

The kiss kept going. Ry slipped his tongue in as she let out a kittenish purr. God, it was the sexiest sound he’d ever heard. The soft, tiny mewl fired through his blood. Fired him up. His tongue tangled with hers. Like they were two swords, fencing for the win. Because there would damn sure be a winner. The way they were grappling at each other? It wasn’t just fun. It was about proving something.

Her mouth—made for kissing. And more. His tongue slid deep. Felt her wetness. And Riley couldn’t help imagining how all that warm wetness would feel locked around another part of his body. Summer’s hands came up to fist in his shirt. Shit—for a second, he worried she’d push him away. But then those fists pulled him even closer. One smooth calf twined around his. He wanted to walk her back ten steps to the nearest tree and just sink into her.

Which was crazy. Riley didn’t even like this woman. He’d kissed her to save his pride. To defend his honor. To get her off his back. And now he wanted to put Summer on hers, spread her thighs, and—

That was it. Riley let go. Let go of the sweet ass he didn’t even remember moving down to squeeze. Let go of those luscious lips. Yanked his head back and deliberately stepped out of the semicircle of her curved leg.

“You and I both know that was the riskiest damn thing I could possibly do today.” Riley looked at her still unfocused eyes, her kiss-swollen lips. Proof that she’d enjoyed it every bit as much as he had. “Oh, and you also know now that I’ve got the balls. I’ve got the whole package.”

Yes! Summer’s book! I’ve been waiting for this one since book one, Wanting It All , when her bestie Chloe fell for Griffin. Fortunately, it did not at all disappoint.

Summer and Riley represented everything that is awesome about enemies-to-lovers stories. Their initial antagonism, mixed in with inexplicable attraction, confused with tow-curling kisses–just fantastic. The fact that he’s the (overly anal, it must be said) prepares-for-everything guy and she’s the woman who thinks getting a puppy is too much of a commitment and smacks of future plans? Just adds to the deliciousness of the story. Add in the fact that the rest of the Naked Men are around, poking their noses into Ry’s business from start to finish? Pretty much ensures the story’s awesomeness from start to finish.

(Plus, for those who’ve been reading the series since the beginning, something FREAKING AWESOME happens with an earlier hero and heroine. I very nearly stood up and cheered at that point.)

The one odd aspect of this book, though, is that a lot of the scenes that get a lot of buildup in the narrative don’t actually end up happening on the page (a stressful Naked Men podcast first, a meet-the-parents moment, just to name two). It’s not a huge issue, but it did give the story a somewhat choppy feeling. At the same time, it kept the story moving along at a good clip, but…still felt a bit odd.

Overall, Trying it All was a fun and sexy read with two characters who both did their own share of work to get to their eventual HEA. The fact that they both realized their own issues, owned up to them, and put in equal effort going forward might make this one my favorite of the series (so far–Josh, you’re on notice!). It could work as a standalone, but really, do yourself a favor and read them all. You won’t be sorry!

Review:

Such a good read!

It takes a while to figure out what exactly Savannah’s deal is–which is a bit frustrating at first, but once we have the whole story? It finally makes sense, and from that point on–all the feels. Seriously, there were tears. More than once. Between Savannah and her mom, Savannah and Collin, and Collin and his little sister Amanda, the relationships in this book just slay me. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next for the people of Slippery Rock–Levi, Savannah’s brother; Mara, Collin’s absent sister; James, the deputy sheriff; and Adam, their longtime friend who isn’t exactly left in a good spot at the end of this book…gah! How soon until book 2 comes out?

Release Day Review! HIS RUNAWAY CAMPFIRE PRINCESS (Camp Firefly Falls #8)

His Runaway Campfire Princess
by Gwen Hayes

A Princess on the run…

Just once, Princess Merriam would like to make her own choices, but independence is in short supply when your father, the king, is of the royal opinion that princesses are for looking pretty and being obedient. When she overhears him talking to her broody, sexy, and oh-so-aloof bodyguard about her future wedding, a surprise to her as she’s not currently engaged to anyone, she plots her first rebellion: slip past her protection detail in NYC and board a tourist bus bound for Camp Firefly Falls where she plans to spend the week incognito as a normal twenty-something looking for love during Singles’ Week.

A Duke in pursuit…

Harmon Maxwell , Duke of Carlisle and Commander of the Royal Palace Guard has no patience for spoiled little rich girls who think security is a game. The tempting princess has tormented his dreams for years, but he’s a man of honor and duty, and he intends to bring the reckless beauty to heel until a real threat to her safety means a week at camp might be the safest place for her. It’s his duty to keep her in close protection, and that means she only gets one suitor during Singles’ Week: him.

Review:

A quick, fun and sexy read!

His Runaway Campfire Princess may be just a novella, but it still packs quite a punch. Merriam and Harmon are one heck of a couple–so much angsty we-can’t-be-together drama…and then before the camp week is half over, so much delicious at-least-we-have-this-week sexy times 😉

Merriam and Harmon’s book is the eighth in the series, but it worked just fine as a standalone. Be warned, though–you probably won’t want their story to be your only visit to Camp Firefly Falls!

New Release Review and Giveaway! BETTING THE BAD BOY by Stefanie London (Behind the Bar #3)

He’s an expert at breaking the rules…

BETTING THE BAD BOY
Behind the Bar #3
Stefanie London
Releasing May 8th, 2017
Entangled Lovestruck

Self-confessed perfectionist Paige Thomas isn’t used to failing. But when a critical error in romantic judgment sends all her big city career dreams crashing down, she scrambles to find a job—any job—to make ends meet.

Noah Reid may as well have “trust issues” tattooed on his forehead. Being raised in the foster system didn’t give him a positive outlook on relationships, but now he’s looking after his best friend’s bar for one month, and he can’t do it
alone.

Things get steamy when Noah hires Paige, but she’s determined not to repeat her mistakes and she bets Noah that she can keep her hands to herself while they’re working together. Too bad for her, Noah is an expert at breaking the
rules…

She held the blindfold while trying to ignore the flutter of excitement in her stomach. Her fingers toyed with the elasticated band meant to hold the mask in place.

“Both partners are going to get a turn at being blindfolded,” Libby said from the front of the room. “Between yourselves, pick who’s going to go first.”

Noah looked down at her, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He ran a hand along his jaw, catching the reddish-gold bristles of his burgeoning beard. For a moment, Paige was totally captured with the idea of how the bristles might feel on her skin. Would they be smooth or rough? Would she shriek if he brushed them along her inner thigh?

“What do you say, new girl?” He cocked his head. “Would you rather do the blindfolding or be blindfolded?”

At that point she would have been happy to go all in— blindfolded, tied up, and held down.

Holy crap, would you listen to yourself? This is a work function, not a goddamn re-creation of Fifty Shades.

“Blindfolded,” she squeaked, thrusting the mask into his hands and spinning so quickly that she almost lost her footing.

“You know, I’ve never done this before.” His hand steadied her, the reassuring warmth of his touch seeping into her skin. Her bones felt like jelly.

“Blindfolded someone?” she asked, cringing at how shaky her voice sounded.

“Ah, no. I meant the taste test.” He chuckled as he slipped the mask over her eyes.

Heat rushed up to Paige’s cheeks. Of course he meant the taste test. What an idiot she was. Just because her brain was earning an R-rating tonight didn’t mean his was, too. She fought back a tremor as he brushed some loose hairs from her neck so he could adjust the strap on the mask.

Everything went dark, and Paige gripped the edge of the table for support.

Warm breath whispered over her ear, and she could tell he’d leaned in a little closer. The scent of coffee and faded cologne tempted her to turn her head toward the source.

“I’ve definitely blindfolded someone before, but it wasn’t for a taste test.”
Her breath hitched, and she was grateful that she’d had the presence of mind to hold on to something.

“Oh.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, that’s what she said.”

Holy. Freaking. Shit.

So cute!

I loved both Noah and Paige, and the bet motif was abso-freaking adorable. I can’t imagine why I haven’t read the other two books in this series–yes, it worked just fine as a standalone, but still–but you’d better believe I’m going to soon. I’m really going to enjoy watching Noah be all smug in his non-commitment-dom, knowing exactly what is coming in his future 🙂
