Tagline:He’s the last thing she wants…but the only thing she needs.

Blurb:  Willa Peet isn’t interested in love. She’s been there, done that, and has the shattered heart to prove it. Ready to shake the breakup, she heads to Dublin, Ireland. But there’s a problem. A dark-haired, blue-eyed problem with a bad attitude that rivals her own. And he’s not doling out friendly Irish welcomes.

Shane Claymore just wants to race. The death of his father forced him off the Formula One circuit, but he’s only staying in Dublin long enough to sell the Claymore Inn and get things in order for his mother and younger sister. He never expected the sarcastic American girl staying at the inn to make him question everything.

But even as Willa and Shane’s fiery natures draw them together, their pasts threaten to rip them apart. Can Shane give up racing to be with the woman he loves, or will Willa’s quest to resurrect the tough-talking, no-shit-taking girl she used to be destroy any hope of a future together?

Review:

I really need to stop reading books that feature characters from earlier books I haven’t read yet. I dare you to pick this one up and not feel a burning desire to see exactly how Willa’s story started. THANK GOD  Protecting What’s His, Willa’s sister Ginger’s story, is available on audiobook. Guess what book I’m listening to next?

Willa’s story blew me away. It’s written in first person, so we can see directly into her broken, “unfixable” heart–and right through her tough-girl exterior. Readers have a front row seat first as she runs away from the breakup of a relationship that never should have been and later as she flat-out sprints away from the one she was meant to have all along. It’s glorious.

Willa and Shane have an antagonistic relationship from the start–she’s determined to get her old who-cares-what-anyone-else-wants-or-thinks self back, and he’s only hanging around his family’s pub long enough to sell it and get back to his real life. Neither one wants anything to do with the other–neither has room for or wants anyone else in their lives–yet they’re drawn to each other in a way that neither can deny.

Watching them fight is fantastic, because it’s that I-can’t-stand-you-let’s-just-do-it-already kind of fighting. Tessa Bailey builds up the tension nicely, ratcheting up the steam factor until the reader is almost as ready to scream as her heroine and hero are. When they finally do get together it’s with trademark Tessa Bailey steam, though perhaps tempered just a tad for the new adult market. Still, it’s wonderful.

Willa, of course, isn’t done running. Fortunately, Shane’s got her number. Plus, he’s not above tossing her over his shoulder to get his point across.

Delicious.

If you like witty banter, growly heroes, highly combustible sexual tension, and heartwarming family moments, then this is the book for you.
