Cal
Football is all I’ve got, so when Coach saddles me with some frumpy PT student with a chip on her shoulder, all I can think isdoom. I don’t have time for this. Not now. Not when my dreams are on the verge of being crushed. All that should matter right now is ball. So why can’t I stop imagining what Bee Mitchell is hiding beneath those baggy sweatshirts?
Review:
I loved Cal.
Okay, he was pretty obsessed with getting his knee better and getting himself back on the field–but it’s more than understandable when we hear his story. And his single-minded shove-everything-else-aside-I’m-not-going-to-listen-to-anyone attitude gradually faded away as he worked with Bee on his rehab. And he was such a great guy–doing everything he could to show Bee who he really was, trying to support her, especially with her family–prime book boyfriend material in tight football pants, definitely. Though I’m still not sure some of those…maneuvers that they engaged in were really a good idea, in the interest of getting him field-ready and all… 😉
Bee was a fun character, and very likable–though her football-player bias went a bit too far. How could it have taken her so long to see that Cal was nothing like her dad? It was frustrating at times–but fortunately she pulled her head out of her butt at the end and made up for a lot of the I-want-to-give-her-a-good-shake moments.
The crazy ex-girlfriend drama was a bit extreme, but it did help to make Bee’s turnaround believable, especially toward her mom. Overall this was a fun sports-themed new adult read, and I’m looking forward to more in the series. (Because “skin in the game”? How can you not want more of that? ;))
