Book Tour Grand Finale for
Web of Deceit
By Catherine Lanigan

We hope you enjoyed this tour as we got to know more about Amanda’s story! If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out now and don’t forget to enter the awesome giveaway…

September 6th: Launch – Web of Deceit Tour Welcome

Welcome to my world of historical fiction on ebook. WEB OF DECEIT is a step into the refined world of 1890 London and New York Society where deceit, treachery, murder and above all incalculable ambition reside.

Falling Leaves – Excerpt

Lady Kent would be furious; recently, a perpetual state of being for her employer, Amanda thought.

Amanda had no time for remorse or guilt for her tardiness.

Bloomfield of thoughts – Excerpt

“Amanda, I don’t think it wise to make decisions without your employer’s permission.”

“Tonight is the Queen’s birthday ball. There will be two hundred and fifty debutantes coming out this year. Eloise must look her best. This blue will make her eyes more lively.”

underneath the covers – Favorite Historical Books

Sommerset Maugham “OP Human Bondage”

In some ways, Web of Deceit, is my ode to Maugham. For the plot of getting Amanda out of London and to New York, I needed Harriet to provide her daughter with money. Harriet is a beautiful woman. Though by the time she is nearing 40 in 1889, she feels her life is over.

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Favorite Historical Movies

Casablanca. This is one of my favorite movies bar none. It’s always number one for me. It was my inspiration for my book SINS OF OMISSION, which I set prior to WWII and through WWII in Paris.

Nicole’s Book Musings – Excerpt

Georgia whirled around, hands on hips, lips pursed tightly. One look at Amanda’s smiling face and her anger melted.

“Go on with you. Miss Eloise didn’t sleep at all last night. She’s been ringing since dawn.”

The Silver Dagger Scriptorium – In Remembrance

When I set the dates for this tour, I wanted it to be in September as a remembrance of my husband, Jed Nolan, a film producer and director. His birthday was in September and I can’t begin the month without thinking of him.

Mel’s Shelves – Excerpt

“I’ve had a dreadful night. Now I’m to have a dreadful day.”

“What are you talking about?” Amanda asked as she opened the thick lace draperies and let the morning sun wash the room in a pink-gold glow. “You should be happy. It’s your debut, all your friends will be there, you’ll get to wear your beautiful new gown. What could be better?”

Wishful Endings – Interview

If you were to sum up the story in a sentence, what would it be?

Desperate, never-ending hope-filled love triumphs over deceit and evil.

Becky on Books – Interview

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

This is one of those stories that came from the character. Amanda showed up in dreams as a young girl of about 10. Then later as a woman, the toast of New York society and then later, as the first voice of women’s rights.

Colorimetry – Excerpt

“This is a debutante ball, Amanda. I know you have no knowledge of these things, being from the . . . with your background. But all the girls must wear white. Only pale pink bordering on white is acceptable. And these gloves. They are vulgar and crass.”

My Devotional Thoughts – Amanda’s Journey

On this book tour, most of my posts and information have been about the fact that Amanda Granger came from the London slums and rose in New York society by telling a lie. In 1890 New York, though there were no “classes” as there were in England, there were still levels of society. Money bought a person a measure of a position. Political power was another. Fame still another.

Thoughts of a Blonde – Excerpt

Five years later, Amanda was making over ten shillings a week, two shillings more than the neighborhood girls, who worked at the garment factories or as telephone operators. Hers was not a difficult job. She was responsible for both the care and the acquisition of wardrobes for both girls, their personal care, their social schedules, and their studies. Eloise was just as disciplined as Amanda. Emily, however, was lazy and always looked for the easiest courses. But Emily was fun and full of pranks, and when her mischief wasn’t getting her into trouble, it was difficult for Amanda not to like Emily.

EskieMama Reads – Excerpt

Disgusted with Amanda’s lack of awe, Eloise checked herself in the mirror. As she had earlier that day, she raised her hand and played with the tendril of hair that hung from her temple. The pink gloves did not have the impact of the blue ones. Eloise could almost hate the rules. Almost.

Book Lover in Florida – The Leading Man, Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade is the kind of historical hero whose only real flaw is situational. He’s tall, dark and handsome. Matthew MacFadyen comes to mind when I think of my Matthew. But then Matthew MacFadyen often comes to mind.

Harlie’s Books – Promo

Sylv all about books and films – Excerpt

In a rush of fondness for a lifetime of shared moments, Eloise embraced Amanda in the way she had last year—before things, and she, began to change.

Eloise ceremoniously walked down the stairs with Amanda trailing her. At the foot of the stairs waited, a bit nervously, breathlessly, the entire Kent family.

A Passion she could not deny—A lie she could never escape—

From the depths of a London slum, Amanda Granger created an illusion of wealth and breeding that became her passport into New York society. With her dazzling beauty and the ease with which she lived her lie, Amanda captivated an adoring public and drove men to bold and dangerous passions.

But for all her fierce ambition, all her daring dreams, Amanda Granger knew that her heart’s desires were held together by the fragile threads of deception and secrets. Triumph would always be elusive until she escaped from her web of deceit.

New Release Review! AS RICH AS A ROGUE by Jade Lee (Rakes and Rogues #3)

In case you missed it, Jade Lee told us her Top 10 Fun Facts about this book here. (with a giveaway!)

As Rich as a Rogue
by Jade Lee

Third in the saucy, vibrant Rakes & Rogues Regency romance series from USA Today bestselling author Jade Lee

A most unusual wager…

Mari Powel’s fiery Welsh temper is up. Peter Norwood, Lord Whitly, is back in town after six years romping around India making his fortune. Mari blames him for her social downfall and has spent all this time clawing her way back into the ton’s good graces. How dare he show up on his first day back and publicly embroil her in a bet involving long-awaited apologies, illicit kisses, and Lady Illston’s unruly parakeet? Mari is outraged, and is going to show him-and everyone else-what she’s made of. Little does she know, the unrepentant Lord Whitly has been dreaming of her all this time. Now he’ll do anything to win the wager-along with Mari’s heart.

As Rich as a Rogue stared out on the slow side–it took a while for the reasons behind Mari’s animosity toward Peter to be revealed, and until they were she came off as rather shrewish (not to mention unreasonably obsessed with being proper and sedate–ie boring as heck). Once we really get to know the two of them, though, and finally understand what their motivations have been for the past six years, I was tempted to slow down myself, just to be able to spend more time with them.

Except I was dying to get to their HEA…such a conundrum 😉

I loved that Peter is revealed to have been so focused on becoming a better person for Mari for all of those years, and that he is so determined to make her break out of her self-imposed prison throughout the book. The phrase that he has to teach Greenie to say to win their bet? Just awesome. I did begin to suspect that’s what it might have been a few chapters early, and was so glad to have been proven right.

I also loved that Mari was able to put her years of observing society and ton behavior to such good use at the end to redeem Peter’s reputation. And kudos to Ash, Lord Rimby for realizing the power that women actually held in society:

“It’s the women who make the difference in this sort of thing. If they think you’re a noble man fighting against evil, then their husbands will have no chance but to follow along.”

(BTW–give that man his own HEA, please, Ms. Lee!)

Altogether a fun read with entertaining characters. I can’t wait for more from this series!

New Release Review: STARTING OVER by Barbie Bohrman

Ignore the cover. As pretty as it is, it has nothing to do with the story or characters…

Starting Over
by Barbie Bohrman

Single mom Vanessa Holt has a daughter she loves, a supportive family, and her art. Having given up on finding true love—if that even exists, which she doubts—she’s content to put romance on the back burner. But not everyone agrees. Those nearest and dearest are ready to see Vanessa let down her long blonde hair and have some fun.

To put their grumbling to rest, Vanessa agrees to go on a date with the next man who asks. Luckily for her, that man is Cameron Thomas, her daughter’s extremely handsome science teacher. She’d felt a spark of chemistry the first time she’d laid eyes on him. Now she’s ready to lay a whole lot more on the sexy bachelor.

But just as things get hot, they also get heavy. When the man who broke Vanessa’s heart reappears, her old doubts and fears about love rush to the surface. Will her fresh start with Cameron be over before it’s barely begun?

I so enjoyed reading Starting Over by Barbie Bohrman. The characters and storyline were refreshingly different–a single mother of an eighth grade girl, starting to date for the first time since her boyfriend dumped her while pregnant, a bit unsure if she should start off doing so with her daughter’s science teacher.

But he’s got a whole “Professor Indiana Jones” vibe going on, and she has a really hard time resisting. As well she should–I mean, Professor Jones! Plus, he wears absolutely adorkable science-themed t-shirts in his downtime. And loves Star Wars. Really, how could any woman resist?

Though Vanessa tries. And tries. And tries some more. It did get a bit frustrating at times–honestly, Cameron’s a saint to have persevered. Vanessa has all kinds of reasons why she can’t give her burgeoning relationship with Cameron a fighting chance–fortunately, he manages to counter most of them, refusing to give up, and Vanessa herself does take one giant step forward at one point, which results in a memorable night together.

Unfortunately, it’s at this point that her ex decides to try and get to know his daughter–finally. Vanessa doesn’t take the stress of the situation well, and in fact hides the whole thing from her daughter Josie, Cameron, and even her own parents. Clearly, this method isn’t going to be effective, but Vanessa just can’t see it until it all blows up in her face, and her new relationship ends up being a casualty. Fortunately, she does finally find the strength to deal with what’s going on and start making choices for herself as a woman and not just as a parent–it was a long time coming, to be sure.

It all leads to an HEA at last and an adorable epilogue, which goes a far way toward making up for any aggravation that went before 🙂

This was my first book from this author, but I’ll definitely be reading more from her in the future.

New Release Review and Giveaway: TAKE ME IF YOU DARE by Nina Crespo (a Birthday Dare novella)

Great new series start!

Take Me if You Dare
by Nina Crespo

One decadent dare, one steamy night…

It’s been a year since Jasmine Stewart dumped her cheating ex, so when her best friend dares her to have a one-night stand during a business trip to Miami, Jasmine is all in. But just as she hits her cheesy-come-ons limit, a wickedly hot former soldier comes to her rescue.

Security specialist Ethan Worth’s instincts tell him the gorgeous woman at the bar is trouble. After a sexy dance and even sexier kiss, he knowsshe is. But when their scintillating night leads to more, the possibility of another long distance relationship sends Jasmine running for the door.

Until the unthinkable happens. Jasmine’s company assigns her to Bode-Wynn, the military security firm where Ethan works. Forced back together, the undeniable heat between them flares to life. But sex is all it can ever be, because taking it further goes against everything Jasmine wants…and everything Ethan fears.

Oh, I really liked this one! New author, new series, interesting secondary characters throughout–so much to look forward to.

Take Me if You Dare is a relatively quick page turner with a nice blend of hot chemistry, steamy scenes, and believable introspection leading to a HEA–all in well under 200 pages. Perfect reading for a lazy summer weekend.

I absolutely LOVED Ethan’s character. He was a fantastic hero. His reasons for not wanting to get into a relationship no doubt played into that love–they definitely hit a bit close to home. I liked how Nina Crespo got him to see through his issues to finally take a chance on love, though. Nicely done.

Jasmine was a little tougher to sympathize with–yes, her betrayal was real, but it was a year ago…but that guy was a total tool and hello, Ethan was nothing like Greg. I did like that she ended up being the one to make the grand guesture, though–because them not being together up to that point was totally all on her.

Altogether this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I’m definitely looking forward to more in this series–there are so many characters (Tab, Mitch, Jax; heck, even Larson and the twins have possibilities) that were introduced here that I’d love to see more of.

Michelle Sharp, Author of DREAM HUNTRESS, Answers the ubiquitous question “Where’d you get your idea?”

Hmm. Maybe I can get Jordan to help out the h/H in my current WIP? They’ve got ghost problems… 🙂

My debut novel, DREAM HUNTRESS, released on June 23 with Entangled Publishing—and wow—what a journey! I’m feeling a bit nostalgic, because as I prepared to do interviews and blog tours, I’ve been asked over and over what or who inspired me to write this book. After thinking about that question for a long time, I’ve realized there wasn’t a single incident or person that Jordan is created from, rather it was a culmination of events and interests that formed her.

I’ve always loved reading romantic suspense novels, especially if they involve a great police detective story. I often think I should have been a cop or a profiler because I find crime fascinating. Have you ever sat down and just chatted with a police officer? I recently had the pleasure of doing just that, and I could have listened for hours to all the crazy situations this detective had encountered. He looked at me at one point and said, “Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up.” I’m forever grateful to the men and women who are brave enough to strap on a gun every day to go to work. And I love talking with them because their stories make great fiction.

I also had an interesting experience after my father passed away and I think it contributed to the creation of Jordan. I am an only child and my parents were divorced, so I felt very alone in that grief filled process of tying up loose ends for someone I loved. Before losing my dad, I had never given much thought to whether or not a loved one could “hang around” after they passed. But as I was going through his things, talking to him as if he were there, a strange occurrence made me certain he was there with me. I won’t go into specifics, but it was eerie and my hair stood on end. I have never forgotten how certain I was that he was communicating with me.

After that, I enjoyed reading about and watching shows that dealt with psychic mediums. No surprise that Medium was one of my favorite TV shows. But it always ticked me off, that no matter how many cases Allison solved with her psychic abilities, the police department always doubted her visions. I looked at my husband one night and said, “Allison should just tell all those people to jump in a lake and get a badge of her own.”

I suppose my mind subconsciously toyed with that idea for the next few weeks. Shortly after, the character idea for Jordan Delany—cop and medium—came to me in a gush of writing. But I knew instantly that my Jordan Delany would never be like any of the composed, self-assured mediums on TV. Following a tragedy in her past, she would be a darker, more wounded character that has never been at peace with herself or her gift. I spent the next few years getting her story down on paper. I hope I’ve done her justice, but there are still days she rolls her eyes at me and says, “Seriously? That’s the best you can do?”

She’s been a different kind of heroine from the get-go. A little rough around the edges and her vocabulary might be sort of… ahem… colorful. But her badge means everything, and she has a fierce compassion for the dead who appear in her dreams and need help to find justice.

My hope for the reader is that you will enjoy reading about her life (and the dead she communicates with) as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.

Keep Dreaming-

Author Bio:

Michelle Sharp is a romantic suspense author from the Midwest. Although she has a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, she finds weaving tales of danger, deception, and love much preferable to reporting the cold, hard facts. Her goal in life? To team resilient, kick-ass heroines with the sexy alpha’s who love them. As most writers probably are, she is an avid reader. Her husband and kids would call it obsessive—but whatever. Her first choice is usually a story with a thrilling combination of danger and love, but any book with a great voice and intriguing story will keep her turning pages well past any reasonable bed-time.

Her debut novel will be published with Entangled Ignite in June of 2014. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Missouri Romance Writers.

Excerpt Reveal! THE DARE by Rachel Van Dyken (The Bet #3)

Seriously. A spider attack, a donkey ride from hell, AND Viagara tea? This I gotta read!

The Dare:

From #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Rachel Van Dyken, comes the third and final book in the New York Time’s Bestselling Bet Series…

Boring Beth Lynn has always lived up to her nickname… until she wakes up in a hotel bed next to a sexy as sin state senator she re-connected with at a wedding the previous night.

The biggest problem? She can’t seem to remember anything about the night before except for crying into a box of cookies, and she’s pretty sure Grandma Nadine slipped something in her drink. And what should have been a one night stand turns into a six day adventure when Grandma whisks them off to Hawaii to save them from the ensuing media firestorm.

Jace isn’t looking for commitment — he believes he made that clear when he left the wedding with Beth. Then again, he can’t remember much of anything other than the way her skin felt beneath his hands. Now he’s stuck with her at some lame couple’s retreat and trying his hardest to fight the attraction only a woman like Beth could invoke.

He doesn’t think it can get any worse.

But one spider attack… A donkey ride from hell… And an unfortunate episode with Viagra tea — and there’s one thing Jace knows for sure: He should never have agreed to Grandma Nadine’s suggestion in the first place.

Because if this isn’t paradise, and it isn’t a vacation — that only leaves one option.

But to make it through alive… they might lose their hearts in the process.

(Romantic Comedy, Friends to lovers, Vacation Romance, New Adult Romance, Funny Stand Alone, Bargain Books, Humorous Romance)

“Beth!” Jace knocked on the door. “If you’re done freaking out, we need to go.”

“Right.” I wiped my wet cheeks and clenched the dress in my hands. It wasn’t magic. If anything, it was just a reminder that I was exactly where I’d been when I’d graduated in 2000. A loser. A loser with a small rack who preferred math and science to Facebook.

“Beth, I’m serious. It’s not looking good.”

“Keep your pants on!” I yelled, irritated that he was making me hurry. With a curse, I pulled on the dress, put my wet hair in a quick pony tail, and opened the bathroom door. “What’s the big hurry?”

Jace held up his phone. It said Grandma Nadine. “Hello!” a loud voice yelled. “Jace! Beth! Hurry! Grandma has this all figured out.”

“Famous last words.” Jace nodded. “But we have no choice.”

“No choice?” I repeated. “What? Is the mafia after us or something?”

“I highly doubt that.”

“Look.” He pointed to the TV. Reporters were in front of a hotel, looking excited as hell.

“The news?” I asked. “Why is that worse than—”

“Special reports say the senator took a prostitute back to his room at midnight last night and has yet to check out! Which raises the question, has the senator truly put his murky past behind him? Sources close to the senator’s ex-fiancée say the cheating scandal from two years ago nearly destroyed him. One more scandal won’t bode well for the youngest senator in state history. Could a trust issue in his personal life have a reflection on his public one?”

“That’s enough.” I grabbed the remote from Jace’s frozen hand and threw it onto the bed. Great. So not only had I lost my virginity to a politician, but now I was a prostitute. I reached for his cell phone and growled into it. “We’ll have words later.” Grandma snorted. “But get us out of here first.”

“Say the magic words.”

“Uh, please?” I nudged Jace out of his paralyzed state.

“Not those words.”

I closed my eyes and allowed visions of my calm and sterile office to bring back the peace into my body. That didn’t work. I needed to think about Vampire Diaries. Damon Salvatore. Damon Salvatore. Damon Salvatore. And happy place found! “I can’t read minds. What words do you want me to say?”

Grandma chuckled. “Why, thank you, of course!”

“How was he?” She giggled like a school girl. “Men with power seem to have a special type of—”

“Thank you!” I all but shouted. “Now get us out of here.”

“Roger.” The phone went dead. I looked to Jace for help, but he seemed to be fighting a losing battle with his tie as he tried to pull it from his neck. “Stop.” I swatted his hands away. “You’re going to hang yourself if you keep doing that.” He shrugged. “What?” I loosened the tie. “No snappy retort?”

“Not feeling snappy,” he said dryly. I slapped him. I never said I was good with emotions.

“What the hell was that for?”

“Singing Katy Perry.” I grinned. “Now snap to it, Mr. Senator. We’ve gotta make it out of this hotel without that skinny bitch reporting it on the evening news.”

“The reporter.”

“You understand my confusion,” he added, just as someone knocked on the door. “Stay here.”

“It feels like a bad movie,” I whispered to myself as I chewed the nail polish off my thumb.

“Shit.” Jace looked through the peephole and then said shit about five more times before slowly opening the door. Why was he so upset? Why the hell would…

“Aw, shit.” I repeated. Because there really wasn’t any other word that existed in the English language that would fit as well. So I repeated it again. As did Jace.

Grandma shrugged and pulled off her sunglasses. “Let the fun begin!”

In Robin York’s provocative new novel, two young ex-lovers find themselves together again in the shadow of tragedy—and an intense, undeniable attraction.

Then, out of the blue, West calls in crisis. A tragedy has hit his family—a family that’s already a fractured mess. Caroline knows what she has to do. Without discussion, without stopping to think, she’s on a plane, flying to his side to support him in any way he needs.

They’re together again, but things are totally different. West looks edgy, angry at the world. Caroline doesn’t fit in. She should be back in Iowa, finalizing her civil suit against the ex-boyfriend who posted their explicit pictures on a revenge porn website. But here she is. Deeply into West, wrapped up in him, in love with him. Still.

They fought the odds once. Losing each other was hard. But finding their way back to each other couldn’t be harder.

Harder Teaser 2

When West’s ringtone starts playing in my darkened bedroom, it slips into my subconscious, and I have one of those last-second-before-you-wake-up dreams that’s pure sensation—his skin warm against me everywhere, his weight and smell, the muscles in his thighs against the backs of mine, his hand sliding down my stomach. All of that, slow and melting and West, until the song finally manages to pierce through the haze of my sleep and pinch me awake.

I fight my way from under the sheet, turned on and pissed off because I know how this goes. The rock in my stomach, the day ahead during which I’ll try and fail to shake that flood of sense-memory.

I’m going to have to live through it, and then I’m going to lose it, every good memory I have of West, again, when what I want is to drop back into that dream and live there instead.

It sucks. It sucks, and I’m so distracted by the suckage that I’m picking up the phone and swiping at the screen with my thumb before I completely register what’s going on.

West’s ringtone. West is calling me.

West is calling me at one a.m. when I haven’t heard from him in two and a half months.

If he’s drunk-dialing me, I’m going to fly to Oregon and kick him in the nuts.

That’s what I’m thinking when I put the phone to my ear—but it’s not how I feel. I wish it were. I wish I could say Hello?and hear West say Hey, and not feel . . . I don’t even know. Plugged in. Lit up. Juiced.

I stand in my dark bedroom, aware in every centimeter of my skin that he’s breathing on the other end of the phone, somewhere on the far side of the country.

I have too many memories that start this way. Too many conversations where I told myself I wouldn’t and then I did.

I have this enormous burden of longing and pain, so heavy I can hear it in my voice when I snap, “What do you want?”

“My dad’s dead.”

My head clears in an instant, my attention sharpening to a point.

“He got shot,” West says, “and it’s . . . it’s a fucking mess, Caro. I know this is—I shouldn’t ask you. I can’t ask you, but I just need to tell you because I can’t fucking—” A crackling whooshing noise interrupts him, the kind of interference that fills your whole head with white sound. I just stand there, waiting for his voice to come back.

I’m pushing the phone so hard against my ear, my breath coming shallow and fast, aware with the kind of clarity I’ve only found in moments of crisis that it doesn’t even matter. Whatever he says next. It doesn’t matter.

The thing I never understood before West was that there are some people who, when it comes to them, reason and logic are never going to be in charge.

He left me. He hurt me.

But I stand there in the dark, holding the phone, and I know that in a few hours I’ll be on a plane.

New Release and Giveaway! CRUSHED by Renee Novelle

Out now–and on sale! Check out three new adult romances by Renee Novelle all on sale now here.

Crushed by R.S. Novelle
Publication date: June 7th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Brooklyn has decided to stick around campus to pursue her Master’s Degree while her boyfriend chases a job opportunity in Chicago. After discovering that long distance relations rarely work out, her best friend helps her to decide that she needs to put down the daily pints of therapeutic ice cream and join their local gym.

Though resistant to the idea at first, Brooklyn relents and finds that things quickly heat up with her new personal trainer Collin. Is it just a flirtatious crush, or is there something real there? And will the blind date her best friend has also committed her to have any weight in the decision on whether or not Brooklyn will pursue her chances with Collin?

As soon as I walked through the perfectly polished glass doors, I was assaulted by a rush of bright colors, vibrant music and overly friendly people just dying to put their bodies through the most grueling workout they could endure. And I had to admit to myself, their enthusiasm was a little contagious. People of all shapes, sizes and ages surrounded me, and I began to feel those nerves dissolve – just a little bit.

Maybe, just maybe, this wouldn’t be so bad after all.

And that’s when I saw him. He was leaning casually against the check-in desk, the absurdly chiseled muscles of his arm flexing under the weight of his perfect body. They were easy to see, thanks to the black top he’d cut the sides out of. His dark brown eyes glistened with boyish mischief while his lips curled into an appealingly delicious smile. The low rumble of laughter that flowed from his chest moved through me, over me, and almost immediately – I’m ashamed to say – I could picture myself in those sexy arms with his hands moving in all sorts of ways. It was one of those knock-down-drag-out images that stilled me in my tracks. And I’m pretty certain my face turned a million shades of red.

All at once, I felt those nerves flooding back. Only they were a thousand times stronger than they’d been in the parking lot, and for a fairly long second I thought I might hurl right then and there. But I swallowed down the sensation, clenched my jittery hands and tried my best to manage a natural smile as Savannah walked confidently up to scan her little card. As we approached the desk, getting closer and closer to the hottie at the side, I secretly wished I’d worn a cute little outfit like Savannah’s…

Everyone behind the desk greeted her by name – she was daily regular, and she had the body to account for it. I crept up timidly behind her, hoping that no one noticed me. But I didn’t stand a chance at that for too long. Before I realized what had happened, Savannah had turned around and gestured in my direction. “This is my friend Brooklyn, she’s signing up today.”

Suddenly, all eyes were on me. Including the hot stranger’s. And I felt my face blush against my will again. “Hi.” I waved timidly, and I could feel him smiling beside me.

“Cute name.” He said, but I’m pretty sure I was the only one who heard him. And I was also pretty sure I was crushing on him pretty hard.

After getting the necessary pre-requisites out of the way about how trials and memberships work, and after they gave me their boring sales run-down with the hopes of converting me right then and there, I was given a little card like Savannah’s that would only be active for a week. Then the main girl behind the counter with the too-chipper voice said, “You also get one free session with a personal trainer with your trial. Did you want to use that today? Most people say it helps them to get familiar with the equipment.” She shrugged.

I opened my mouth to object, but before I could push the words out, Savannah had gestured toward the hot guy who was still leaning against the counter. “Collin, you’re a personal trainer, right?”

My head jerked in his direction, and I wondered if my expression looked as panicked as I felt. Knowing Savannah like I did, I knew exactly where this was going.

“Yeah, sure am.” He smiled as he straightened.

“Great!” She was overly enthusiastic, and I felt my morbid embarrassment heighten. “Do you have time to show her around?”

“I’m on in ten.” After glancing at a clock on the wall, he turned his full attention directly to me. “Want to meet me over by the lockers?”

Everything in me wanted to scream yes! with the same force that it wanted to bolt right back out the door, get in my car, and never return. I was torn, undecided on which would be the least embarrassing, and the internal controversy had paralyzed my ability to respond with any ounce of smoothness. Finally, I felt myself nodding my head, and he seemed to accept this as a positive confirmation.

“Great. See you in a few minutes.” There was a slight chance he might have winked at the end. But it also could’ve been the sun streaming in through the all the windows at the front of the building, so I tried my best not to get my hopes up. As he walked away, assumedly to change into a less distracting ensemble, I wondered if anyone else noticed my gaping mouth as I stared at his impossibly tight ass and broad, well-defined shoulders. When Savannah nudged me, I decided that was confirmation enough.

Though I would never admit this to her in a hundred years, it was occurring to me that maybe my friend had been right – maybe this was exactly what I needed. Hell, I was beginning to feel better already.
