Launch – Note from the Author

My family’s special project for this new series is continuing with the release of Rebel in a Small Town, too. We’re donating a portion of the proceeds from the Slippery Rock series toward providing Sweet Cases from TogetherWeRise to foster children. Most children going in to foster care have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Sweet Cases are duffel bags given to children coming in to care, and once given, the bags remain with that child, giving them a sense of home and, hopefully, a sense that they aren’t alone. Each duffel includes a warm blanket, a teddy bear, hygiene kit, and art supplies.

— Kristina

Sylv.net – Story Inspiration

I love a rebel! Especially, a rebel that is a little bit unexpected, and I hope that’s what you’ll love about Rebel in a Small Town. Because instead of James – the hero – being the big, bad rebel…it’s Mara. And she’s not so much a crazed, angry, rebel without a cause (although I do like a good rebel without a cause) as a women trying to live down her rebellious past.

Beck Valley Books – Excerpt

“Touché.” James put his hands in his pockets. “You look good.”

“So now that I’m not an attached lesbian-slash- bisexual, you’re going straight into hook-up mode?”

James grinned. “It was a statement of fact,” he said, “not an invitation for either of us to go jumping into whatever lake we were swimming in up until two years ago.”

Becky on Books – Review

“Mara and James’ story, the second in the Slippery Rock series, is a sweet second chance/secret baby romance. . . . Slippery Rock was heartening; their HEA, when it comes, is very sweet. Seeing the rest of their collection of friends once again makes me anxious to see what will be in store for future books in the series, especially Adam and Jenny, Levi, and the mysterious, absent Aiden.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Top 5 Rebel Movies

Movies are my favorite form of entertainment – next of books, natch! Rom-coms, dramas, action flicks, period dramas, historical reenactments…I’ll watch anything at least once. But I’ll watch a good rebel movie more than once. In some cases, hundreds of times.

underneath the covers – Excerpt

She motioned to her bag and tried to shout above the racket of the beepers. “I’m with Cannon Security,” she said, but the teenager kept wielding the broom handle at her like it was a machete. “I’m on a security check,” she said, trying again, but neither of the employees seemed able to hear her. Maybe the two of them didn’t want to hear her.

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“Star-crossed lovers, town secrets and a surprise baby … just a few of the things that make this such a fun read! A visit to Slippery Rock is always satisfying!”

Mythical Books – Top 5 Rebel Songs

5. Pink Floyd, Another Brick in the Wall: I think my love of this song comes directly from my dad’s disdain for it. He was a school teacher, and took great offense to a chorus of ‘we don’t need no education’…which, of course, meant I just had to love it. It helped that one of my older brother’s friends (who I thought was quite cute) used to play it while he was working on his old beater car. Sans shirt.

Deal Sharing Aunt – Interview

Does writing energize or exhaust you? – A little bit of both, actually. When the words are flowing, I have a tendency to get totally lost…which leads to more time at the keyboard than I should probably spend…which leads to lost sleep and caffeine highs…and coming down from those is exhausting!

Christian Suspense Author Mary Alford – Review

“One thing I love about a book series is that it allows you to return to your favorite place and find out what’s happening to some of your favorite townsfolk. . . . While there are some adult situations in the book, it’s an entertaining small town read that makes me look forward to Ms. Knight’s next Slippery Rock book.”

It’s All About the Romance – James’ Tips for Reforming a Rebel

Loving a rebel is a hard thing, especially when you’re neck-deep in sheriff duties. And, you know, when your family has been the law in your town for longer than you can remember. People have expectations. And thoughts. And expectations.

Inside the Mind of an Avid Reader – Review

“This book has history, love, friendship, humanity and sexual chemistry. The small Town of Slippery Rock is being rebuilt by everyone that once loved it. You don’t want to miss this sweet heart warming story about a Rebel coming home!”

The Reader’s Handbook – Excerpt

“Mara.” His voice was quiet, and the sound of her name on his lips made the sizzle burn a little hotter. She froze, needing to keep the heat between them under control, but wanting it to burst out like a wildfire. His mouth hit hers, but instead of the anger that had fueled that kiss outside the B and B, the contact was slow. Smooth. And it nearly undid her. His mouth was strong against hers, familiar, and yet it was as if he had never kissed her before.

Nicole’s Book Musings – Mara’s Tips for Dating a Good Man

The thing is, you can’t run forever. I learned that the hard way, when I fell in love with James Calhoun. I ran, and my life hasn’t been the same since. My problem is that I can’t run anymore because there are more than just my feelings to think about. I have Zeke’s feelings to consider. And James’.

Harlie’s Books – Excerpt & Review

“No, no, no. Please, no.”

The siren grew louder, and a few cars passing on the street pulled to the side.

“Let it be a fire. Let it be a fire.”

But it wasn’t a red fire truck that entered the parking lot. It was a big black SUV with Wall County Sheriff plastered along its side. She was definitely not making it to the B and B for snack time.

“Secret baby, childhood friends to lovers, small town tropes, oh my. Sign me up. Not to mention the secret that is between them that the town still blames Mara squarely for. This book has it all for me. Plus, it has smexy times and what an opening to a book. Ms. Knight shook up the mold when she wrote Mara and James.”

Always Reading – Excerpt & Review

James cupped his hands around her neck, pulling her to him. Mara squeaked as he laid his lips on hers, silencing her before she could say, for the fifteenth time, that she could be everything for the little boy in the picture. That James could walk away and never feel guilty about it. As if that would ever happen.

“This book warmed my heart. I grew up in a small town called Slippery Rock. When I saw that this town was called Slippery Rock, I knew I had to read it. We moved away from there, but it is always good to go home.”

Review:

Mara and James’ story, the second in the Slippery Rockseries, is a sweet second chance/secret baby romance. I liked James a lot, which isn’t surprising since I liked him in the first book ( Famous in a Small Town ) too, as Collin’s best friend. Here we see him in more detail, learn of his less-than-pristine teenage past, and his secret relationship with the town rebel and Collin’s little sister Mara, who hasn’t been back in town for more than two years. Now he’s running for sheriff, a position formerly held by his father and grandfather, and struggling with wanting to win and wanting to create a life for himself with the town’s former rebel and their son.

Mara was likable too, though her insistence that she was exactly like their parents had been and that her being with James meant that he wouldn’t get the sheriff’s position got to be a bit much at times–it seemed like she should have gotten over it before she did. Still, she was a great mom, and it was nice to see her trying to fix the problems she’d created with her family by leaving so many years ago. Watching her begin to have faith in herself and in the life she could have with James and in Slippery Rock was heartening; their HEA, when it comes, is very sweet. Seeing the rest of their collection of friends once again makes me anxious to see what will be in store for future books in the series, especially Adam and Jenny, Levi, and the mysterious, absent Aiden.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
Famous in a Small Town
By Kristina Knight

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out…

Launch – Note from the Author

We are taking 10% of the proceeds from the Slippery Rock series to provide Sweet Cases from TogetherWeRise to foster children in our area. In ‘Famous’, Savannah was a foster child who was adopted at the age of 7 by the Walters family; she was dirty, had ill-fitting clothes and nothing else. The trauma in her early life causes her to act out, even into her adult years…right up until the moment she decides to come home. The trauma she faced in the book is so similar to the trauma that foster children face every day, all over the United States.

Becky on Books – Review

“Such a good read!

It takes a while to figure out what exactly Savannah’s deal is–which is a bit frustrating at first, but once we have the whole story? It finally makes sense, and from that point on–all the feels.”

The Silver Dagger Scriptorium – Home Is Where the Heart Is

Home is where the heart is. I’ve seen about a million samplers, pillows, cross-stitch pieces, coffee mugs, mousepads…you name it, I’ve probably seen that phrase on it. I’ve always loved that phrase, but not because it brings up memories of the house where I grew up.

Because it brings up memories of my best friend and I cruising around our small town on Friday nights, just looking for something to do.

Falling Leaves – Excerpt

Before she could talk herself out of it, Savannah marched back into the barn and knocked on the door. No answer. Just like a man to not be around when a woman wanted him to see how not-hung-up-on-him she was.

Probably for the best, anyway. Chances were she’d say something she would regret later. Or find it impossible to not kiss him again.

It’s All About the Romance – Love & Scandal

The thing is, I don’t think there is anything wrong with enjoying a little taste of the glamorous life – I mean, when do we as normal people have the chance to wear designer gowns or vacation in a private villa on a private island? That’s what these magazines bring to the table, along with a juicy scandal – because, let’s face it, knowing that Bob in Accounting bites his nails isn’t that big a secret. . .but knowing that our favorite celebrity does the same thing? It makes them a little more human. A little more like us – warts and all!

Sylv.net – Excerpt

“And watching apple trees grow is hard work?” Savannah knew there was more to Collin’s family orchard than watching trees grow, but she couldn’t just stand there while he insulted her car. She might know it was decrepit, but allowing someone to disparage it just felt wrong. They’d been down a lot of roads together.

Christian Suspense Author Mary Alford – Review

“If you love a good small town romance, then this one’s for you. Even though there are some adult situations in the book, I would recommend reading it with a box of tissues. You won’t be disappointed.”

Brooke Blogs – Collin’s Tips for Dating a Country Singer

(From Collin’s POV) Dating a country singer is work, guys. Not as hard as, say, picking an orchard full of apples on a 90-degree day, but work all the same. These women are self-centered, high maintenance. . . and worth every second. So, if you’ve got the chance to date a Nashville beauty? Take it – but keep in mind, the road is going to be bumpy.

underneath the covers – Excerpt

Collin drew his hand away from Savannah’s. “That isn’t a good idea.”

She tilted her head to the left and widened her eyes a little, but he knew she wasn’t confused. “Why not?”

Because the last thing he wanted to do with Savannah Walters was dance. An image of their bodies moving in time to some beat he couldn’t place formed in his mind. Okay, maybe it wasn’t the last thing he wanted.

Hearts & Scribbles – Savannah’s Tips for Dealing with Scandal

(from Savannah’s POV) I’m not sure when y’all last did something. . .well, bad. The last time I did – last week. And we won’t go into the gory details (you’ll read all about them in my book, anyway). I’ll just say this: scandal isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Scandal hurts, not just me, but it could hurt my family. It could even hurt a person I don’t like all that much (my former tour-mate, Genevieve). How do I deal?

Author Kimber Li – Excerpt

Savannah chuckled. “Sounds like some of the stuff you guys did back in high school.” Pranks and raids she’d never been invited into, not that she was bitter. Even if Levi had asked, she would never have gone.

“Totally different.”

“Because you were boys and she’s a girl?”

Booklove – Review

“Utterly romantic, swoon-worthy and lovely with amazing characters, intriguing and captivating plot and a knack for engaging the reader. I loved it and would recommend it to everyone.”

Nicole’s Book Musings – Then vs Now: When Savannah fell for Collin

Savannah Walters can’t remember a time when she didn’t love Collin Tyler – of course, she doesn’t think of it as love in the beginning. She first ‘met’ Collin when her brother, Levi, brought Collin home after school. She was nine years old, and had been living with the Walters family for two years. To that point, Levi had been ‘hers’ – her friend, her confidant (although she didn’t share any of her past with him), her brother. Once Collin came to Walters Ranch, though, Levi was no longer Savannah’s.

Granny Loves to Read – Review

“Good read. Liked the characters and story flow. Entertaining and fun to read.”

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“A sweet story of finding a sense of belonging even when life doesn’t go the way you want. The characters are enjoyable and carry the story to a happy fruition. A little slow in places, but overall a deep and meaningful read!”

It takes a while to figure out what exactly Savannah’s deal is–which is a bit frustrating at first, but once we have the whole story? It finally makes sense, and from that point on–all the feels. Seriously, there were tears. More than once. Between Savannah and her mom, Savannah and Collin, and Collin and his little sister Amanda, the relationships in this book just slay me. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next for the people of Slippery Rock–Levi, Savannah’s brother; Mara, Collin’s absent sister; James, the deputy sheriff; and Adam, their longtime friend who isn’t exactly left in a good spot at the end of this book…gah! How soon until book 2 comes out?
