EXCERPT:

“What do you want, Tommy?” she breathed. So close. So beautiful. With her free hand she took off her glasses and tossed them on the ground. Her eyes, lined in black liner raked over me.

And mine raked over her.

“You,” I said, so raw I was practically inside out. “Just once.”

She laughed low in her throat. “You have a few questions you want answered, do you?” she asked.

“Don’t you?”

“God yes.”

She stepped forward until she was nearly touching me. It took my inhale for my chest to brush hers. I exhaled and our bodies retreated. She inhaled and we touched. Exhaled and retreated.

We each did it again. And then again. Breathing each other in, in turns. Finally it wasn’t enough and I stepped toward her, and my cock pressed against her stomach and she pushed against me. Her breasts and belly imprinted on my skin.

“One time,” she said. “One time and we go back to our lives and get on with things. I’m going to forget you, Tommy. And you’re going to forget me.”

I doubted it, but I wasn’t going to argue. Not with my dick pushed up against the tight muscles of her stomach. Not with her breath, sweet from the pop and the candy she’d eaten, making me crazy.

“I’m serious, Tommy,” she said as if she could read my mind. “I don’t want to be hurt anymore, and I really, really don’t want to hurt you anymore. Promise you’ll forget me.”

“I promise,” I said, because when threatened with the idea of hurting her, I’d agree to anything to stop that. “I’ll forget you, right after I fuck you.”

Release Day Review! WHERE I BELONG by M. O’Keefe (The Debt #2)

Where I Belong

by Molly O’Keefe

THE GIRL I LOVED IS THE WOMAN I CAN’T HAVE

It was simple: Pay the debt and I stay out of jail. Pay the debt and I stay alive.

But I sacrificed it all for Beth.

I didn’t pay what I owed. I’m sure punishment is coming, but I can take it – as long as Beth is safe. Away from her mother and everyone else who would hurt her.

I gave it all up for two days with her. And it was worth it.

She always was.

THE SECRETS WE KEEP ARE WHAT TEARS US APART

We’re supposed to be done. Over. Tommy goes his way, I go mine. Cue the heartbreaking music.

I’m supposed to forget him, but I don’t think I can. And when the danger closes in on Tommy, we’re on the run again. From Bates. From my mother. From our past. And there are no safe places to hide.

Except one. And it’s the place that will hurt Tommy the most.

But maybe it’s time for me to face my past. My demons.

Maybe it’s time for me to save Tommy for once.

Review:

The intense emotion and drama continue…

Where I Belong picks up just moments before Lost Without You ended, in a moment of intense drama (yes, you really need to have read book one first–sorry!) and Ms. O’Keefe continues to keep the level up throughout. Lies old and new, a hero and heroine in hiding and attracting national attention, the suspense of wondering what will happen since “the debt” has been defaulted…this one is definitely not a light beach read!

(Warning: have a cold drink and a fan handy, because there’s some pretty steamy scenes ahead…)

For all of the tension and drama, though, Tommy and Beth’s triumph over their difficulties comes rather abruptly. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy with the ending, but their victory manages to seem almost anticlimactic in the ease in which it comes about. Still, an HEA is an HEA, and we get a satisfactory on here–plus, we’re left in great suspense at the end about the next person on Bate’s debt list. Next up: Simon’s book! Can’t wait 🙂

New Release Review! LOST WITHOUT YOU by M. O’Keefe (The Debt #1)

Lost Without You
by Molly O’Keefe

Synopsis:

ALL DEBTS MUST BE PAID

Tommy

Seven years ago, I thought I could save Beth, the girl I loved from the monster who was supposed to take care of us. I thought I could keep Beth and all the other kids at St. Jude’s Home for Court Placed Juveniles safe.

I failed. Badly. Now we all have blood on our hands and owe a dangerous man a very dangerous debt. We don’t know when he’ll come calling for payment, but when he does – we pay, or we suffer.

When my turn comes, I’m ready for anything.

Except seeing Beth again.

LOVE IS NEVER FREE

Beth

No one ever tells you that the cost of having your dreams come true is literally every single other part of your life. Yes, I’m a huge pop star these days, but I’m pretty much a mess, too.

I’ve spent my life hiding behind disguises, make-up and costumes, all to protect myself from the kind of pain that comes from revealing your true self to someone.

I did that once. With Tommy. The only person I ever loved. It didn’t turn out so well.

And now, with everything else falling apart around me, I’m suddenly in the backseat of his car.

Being kidnapped.

And the past we’ve both tried to run from is catching up with us.

Contains The Debt: A Prologue and 50,000 more words in the continuation of Tommy and Beth’s story.

Review:

I should have been prepared after her Everything I Left Unsaid series… Once again Ms. O’Keefe has left us at a major OMG moment at the end of the first full novel in her The Debt series, and I’m dying to get my hands on the next book! (Where I Belong, not out until June 26…sigh.)

Like the prequel novella (The Debt), Lost Without You draws you right in to the world of (now-seven-years-older) Tommy and Beth from the very beginning, not letting you go until the very last page–where the before-mentioned OMG moment ensures that the “letting go” involves some kicking and screaming on the part of the reader. (Wait, what? What do you mean, I have to wait to find out what happens???) Also like her Everything I Left Behind series, this one is pretty dark in tone and brings on the angst–these young adults seem to have been living the life every parent hopes their children never will. (Well, except for maybe Beth’s mother–what is up with her? Hopefully we’ll find out in the next book, because that whole situation seems worth another OMG or two. Or possibly a dozen.)

Life has been better since they left St. Jude’s–sort of. However, Tommy’s mostly alone, except for Simon, who is gone more than he’s around, and Pest, Tommy’s squirrel/dog. Beth is…well, I’m not going to give it away ahead of time, but Beth’s pretty much alone too, even though she spends her days literally surrounded by people. She’s still having trouble sleeping, so much so that her daily life involves a pretty scary cocktail of possibly not-quite-legal drugs from morning to night. Neither of them has managed to get over each other, and neither has been able to truly put the events at St. Jude’s in the past–Tommy even more so than Beth, since he has the complication of the “debt.”

The debt comes due early on, and it brings Beth and Tommy back together, though from the start you know it’s not going to be a sunshine and roses kind of reunion. But GAH, these two are so good together…and then she leaves us hanging. Hopefully I can find something to do to keep me occupied until June 26 and not obsessing over what’s happening with Tommy and Beth…

Darn you, M. O’Keefe! 😉

Review:

The Debt does exactly what it needs to–introduces readers to the five teens who survived the horrific St. Jude’s Home for Court Placed Juveniles, vividly shows what happened on their last night there, and sets up the concept of “the debt” that will be a major plot factor in the next two series books.

In short–it gives you just enough to make you want more, sand want it now! Fortunately for me, my copy of book #1 (Lost Without You) included this prequel novella, so I didn’t have to wait!

Though book #2 is another story…how soon is its release???

New Release Review! BAD NEIGHBOR by M. O’Keefe

Bad Neighbor
by Molly O’Keefe

Synopsis:

He’s sexy… He’s dangerous… He’s right next door.

I gave up everything to save my sister from a monster, and now I’m lying low in this rundown apartment so I can stay out of danger. Hiding from everyone.
Except for the guy in apartment 1A.
He’s rude. Silent. Muscled, mysterious, and hot as hell. I don’t know if he likes me or hates me, but the more time I spend with him, the less it matters.
I want him.
And for the first time in my life I’m going to go after what I want.

She doesn’t belong in my world.

From the second 1B moves in, I know she’s keeping secrets. She doesn’t belong here, much less with a street fighter like me.
But that doesn’t stop me from craving her. Her softness and sweetness. She’s a drug, and suddenly I’m addicted.
I know someone is going to try and hurt her and I can’t let that happen. But unless I push her away and get her out of my world, that someone could be me…

Review:

I really love Molly O’Keefe’s writing, and when she puts on her “M. O’Keefe” hat? She ramps up the intensity.

I. Like.

A lot.

Bad Neighbor does not disappoint. Charlotte, a graphic artist (she’s creating a Where’s Waldo-style Jane Austen book–is it wrong that I really, really, really want this book to exist?) has just moved into an apartment in a pretty dodgy neighborhood because she just gave all of her cash and disposable assets to her twin sister, who’s on the run from her potentially-dangerous ex. Charlotte’s pretty anti-people anyway (again, a heroine after my own heart) so lying low shouldn’t be a major hardship. She just needs to keep her head down, finish her book, and make enough money to move somewhere, well…safer.

Except there’s that neighbor…

Jesse’s got his own toxic past, plus the potential of an equally dangerous future. He needs to stay away from his new neighbor–for her own good, he’s convinced. But she makes it difficult to stay away, and their walls are awfully thin…

I really enjoyed the push and pull between Jesse and Charlotte. They had great chemistry together and the reasons for them not to be together are good, though solved a bit quickly and abruptly in the end (I’d just started to wonder if this was going to be more of a
Everything I Left Unsaid
-type ending when it suddenly came to an end). It did leave me all kinds of anxious for the next book, though (
The Bad Boy’s Secret Baby
) because yeah, I’ve got to see where she’s going to take those two.

Plus, seeing more Charlotte and Jesse could never be a bad thing. And bonus–there’s a teaser at the end for Tiffany and Blake’s (Everything I Left Unsaid series) book, which has been a loooong time coming. 2017 is looking promising!

New Release Review! BURN DOWN THE NIGHT by M. O’Keefe (Everything I Left Unsaid #3)

Burn Down the Night

by Molly O’Keefe

Synopsis:

A battle for control turns explosive as a beautiful con woman takes a bad-boy biker hostage in this edgy, seductive novel set in the world of Everything I Left Unsaid (“Toe-curlingly sensual.”—Katy Evans) and The Truth About Him (“Absolutely one-click worthy”—J. Kenner).

The only thing that matters to me is rescuing my sister from the drug-cooking cult that once enslaved us both. I’ve run cons my whole life, and I’ll use my body to get whatever I need. Max Daniels is the last connection I have to that world, the one person reckless enough to get involved. Besides, now that his brothers have turned on him, he needs me too.

The deal was supposed to be simple: a place to hide in exchange for rescuing my sister. Now he’s my prisoner. Totally at my mercy. But I’m the one captivated. Enthralled. Doing everything he asks of me until I’m not sure who’s in control.

We both crave the heat. The more it hurts, the better. But what if Max wants a different life now, to leave the game . . . to love me? I thought I knew better than to get burned. Now I’m in too deep to pull away. And the crazy thing is . . . I don’t want to.

Review:

Whoa.

Burn Down the Night is intense. But if you’ve read the first two books in the series (Everything I Left Unsaid and The Truth About Him) then you’re probably expecting that.

Can you read this one without having read the others? Probably–for the most part, Joan/Olivia and Max are several states away from the main characters from the first two books (Max’s younger brother Dylan and Joan’s former neighbor Annie) for all but the beginning and end of the book. There are definitely some aspects and events of the beginning of the series that come into play here, though, and to be honest I really wished an entire year hadn’t gone by between when I read book two and when I read this one. Fortunately I was reading on my ereader, so I could easily pull up the other books and do some quick searches for a refresher–if you don’t have the other books handy/haven’t read them you should be fine, but the deja-vuish feeling of “hang on, that sounds kind of familiar–what happened there, exactly?” was making me a little nuts and I had to give in. (Especially one part of the epilogue. You really need to know the backstory there to really “get” what’s going on…and to be especially anxious for book four, ’cause it’s gotta be Blake and Tiffany’s book, right?)

Though somehow I went through the first two books thinking Joan was much older than she actually was. I’m not sure why…I guess everything she’d been through just gave her an older aura, maybe? I couldn’t actually find anything in the earlier books to back that up, though, so I’m sure it was just me.

Max was definitely my favorite part of this book. I wasn’t at all sure about him at the beginning; he was pretty abrasive and oh-so-determined not to help Joan out, no matter what. I didn’t feel at all bad that Joan kept him handcuffed to the bed (and not in a fun way) for much of the first part of the book. But he grew on me…and he actually was the first one of the two of them to open himself up to the possibility of trusting another person. Joan was a heck of a lot more prickly for quite a bit more of the book. There were actually times I kind of wanted her to just get over herself already–they were few and far between, because she did have legitimate reasons for much of what she said, did, and thought–but she was definitely harder to get behind 24/7.

Burn Down the Night is dark, edgy, intense, and rife with sexual tension (and later on, actual sex!) In true M. O’Keefe style, though, there’s also quite a bit of humor and snark. When Joan and Max were out by the pool, getting all the “newlywed presents” from the residents of the complex? Just awesome.

Fingers crossed that the series is going to continue–and that we won’t have to wait another whole year for it to do so!

New Release Review and Giveaway! THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM by M. O’Keefe (Everything I Left Unsaid #2)

TTAH_BLOGTOUR

THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM BOOK BLURB:

For fans of Christina Lauren and Jodi Ellen Malpas comes the next novel in M. O’Keefe’s breathtakingly sexy series about a woman called into a journey of the heart, body, and soul.

We played our roles, told each other lies.

But now Dylan is no longer just a mysterious deep voice on the other end of the line. We’re face-to-face and our relationship is very, very real.

We still have secrets—but so much is crystal clear:

The thrilling danger.

The raw, naked desire.

The need to keep feeling the way he makes me feel. Forever.

Dylan is putting up walls, trying to keep me safe, but he can’t shut me out. He has seen my darkness and rescued me. Now it’s my turn, if only he will let me.

Review:

So, so good–such a satisfying conclusion to Annie and Dylan’s story (but not the series! Max and Joan’s story is to come–and dare we hope for Blake’s–and Tiffany’s?–story after that??)

This book is definitely not a standalone. You have to read Everything I Left Unsaid first; there’s too much to catch up on otherwise. Book 2 drops you right in the middle of the action where book 1 left off, and you really need to know what’s going on and who all those people are from the get-go.

But hey–if you haven’t read book one yet, now you can do so without suffering the agony of having to wait for book two to be released when you’re done! Bonus! 😉

Ms. O’Keefe flipped her POV choices for this one–Dylan’s telling the story in the first person, and Annie’s parts are in third. Since we’re learning more about Dylan this time around, this style works. We find out more about his unhappy past and his truly messed-up family dynamic, and are better able to understand his trust issues and why he has such difficulty with the “L” word. His estranged father and brother play bigger roles, and family–all kinds of family–is again an important element of the story.

At the same time, we see his relationship with Annie deepen as she becomes even stronger and more brave than she was in book two.

I cannot stress enough how much I love Annie and Dylan.

Plus, let’s not forget there’s plenty of really crazy hot sex here 😉

Even though this is another example of a darker work than Ms. O’Keefe’s usual fare, her sense of humor makes itself known throughout, making this a whole lot of (somewhat stressful! But in the best ways) fun to read.

I cannot wait to revisit Annie and Dylan’s world as the series continues!

MollyOKeefeBIO:

Molly O’Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn’t looked back. She loves exploring every character’s road towards happily ever after.

Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she’s not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.
