Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, forty-three weeks, and two days. Or so she thinks.

The boy she maybe-sort-of-definitely loved and sort-of-maybe-definitely hated has dropped off the face of the planet in the face of tragedy, leaving a Jack Hunter–shaped hole. Determined to be happy, Isis fills it in with lies and puts on a brave smile for her new life at Ohio State University.

But the smile lasts only until he shows up. The menace from her past—her darkest secret, Nameless—is attending OSU right alongside her. And he’s whispering that he has something Isis wants—something she needs to see to move forward. To move on.

Isis has always been able to pretend everything is okay. But not anymore.

Isis Blake might be good at putting herself back together.

But Jack Hunter is better.

“What a rush! Brilliantly crafted, sharply written, and completely unpredictable–the perfect ending to an all-time favorite series! Sara Wolf is a fresh voice in YA, and her characters never fail to make me laugh and think. If you’re in the mood for an edgy, witty, one-of-a-kind romance, this is definitely for you!” —Rachel Harris, NYT bestselling author

Review:

I didn’t used to cry so much, and I want to tell her that, but I realize the story would be too long. You could fit in in, like, at least three books.

Isis Blake, Remember Me Forever, Lovely Vicious book 3

Phew, what an ending!

Okay, so some things were resolved just a little too quickly and nicely here, but since Isis is still Isis (OMG, her habit of thinking out loud. Cracks me up every. Single. Time) and Jack is still Jack (thank you, God) and I love, love, love them together and wanted an HEA for them more than almost anything, so…yeah. I can deal with a little too quick and nice. Because Isis and Jack.

This really isn’t a standalone–actually, I kind of wished I’d had time to re-read books 1 and 2 ( Love Me Never and Forget Me Always ) first, because it’d been a while. Stuff came back to me–there was a lot of oh, yeah, that happened… throughout–so I managed. But if you’re new to the series, do yourself a favor now that all three have been re-released and read them all at once.

I’m sad to say goodbye to Isis and Jack, but glad I got to see them through to their end–and looking forward to what Ms. Wolf has for us next!

New Release Review! FORGET ME ALWAYS by Sara Wolf (Lovely Vicious #2)

Forget Me Always

by Sara Wolf

Synopsis:

All warfare is deception. Even in high school.

It’s been three years, twenty-five weeks, and five days since Isis Blake fell in love, and if she has it her way, it’ll stretch into infinity. Since then, she’s punched Jack Hunter—
her nemesis-turned-maybe-something-more—in the face, survived a brutal attack by her mom’s abusive ex thanks to Jack’s heroics, and then promptly forgotten all about him.

The one bright spot for Isis is Sophia, the ephemeral girl who shares Isis’s hospital stay as well as a murky past with Jack. But as Isis’s memories return, she finds it harder and
harder to resist what she felt for Jack, and Jack finds it impossible to stay away from the only girl who’s ever melted the ice around his heart.

As the dark secrets surrounding Sophia emerge, Isis realizes Jack isn’t who she thought he was. He’s dangerous. But when Isis starts receiving terrifying emails from an
anonymous source, that danger might be the only thing protecting her from something far more threatening.

Her past.

Review:

Yikes.

Well.

So. Much. Happened. Here.

…and yet we’re kind of left where book one (Love Me Never–my review is here) left us, in the end. Well, kind of, but not really. I mean, all kinds of craziness happened–we learned some major secrets, something huge happened with a pretty significant character (I saw it coming, but it still has me trying to decide which of the many, many emotions it’s sparked in me is #1, even hours later), friendships were repaired and then torn apart again, Leo had his trial…and Jack and Isis still aren’t together in the end. Again.

I need book #3 (Remember Me Forever), like,  now. But I guess I’ll wait until May. Since I have to, and all.

Sigh…

Reading book #1 before this one is an absolute must–this is definitely not a standalone. Really, I recommend reading these two books fairly close together, because there was so much that I just couldn’t *quite* remember from book one–I could definitely have used the crib notes version a few times, especially in the beginning. If I’d had access to Love Me Never while reading, I would have been going back and refreshing my memory on a lot of details–but I didn’t, because I’d already given it to Mini Moe #2 to read, which means now it could be anywhere in her room. Or in the house, really. Or even her locker. Anywhere.

Ah, well.

It definitely helped me to connect more with Isis’s character, at least, with the whole there’s-holes-in-my-memory bit. I remembered most of it in the end, I think–the gist, if not the exact details.

And now I’ve got to wait for book 3.  Sigh.

(And I really do recommend waiting, even though the entire series was previously published. Glancing over reviews of the first versions, there’s been a lot added here, because these two are definitely novel length now. So sure, it’s tempting to go out and find the first book three, but I’d have to read the new one when it comes out anyway, so I’m going to wait. I know Ms. Wolf will make it worth my while.)

New Release Review: LOVE ME NEVER by Sara Wolf (Lovely Vicious #1)

Love Me Never

AddtoGoodreads

Synopsis:

Don’t love your enemy. Declare war on him.

Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to Buttcrack-of-Nowhere, Ohio, to help her mom escape a bad relationship.

All the girls in her new school want one thing—Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter’s never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he’s never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.

Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.

The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.

Previously published as Lovely Vicious, this fully revised and updated edition is full of romance, intrigue, and laugh-out-loud moments.

Review:

I read the “fully revised and updated” version of this book, and am anxiously waiting the re-release of book 2,  Forget Me Always (previously Savage Delight)! Is it November yet???

No? Okay.

Sigh.

Where to start…

This book is like a literary version of a massive car wreck, but in a good way. For about 95% of it, I didn’t really like the two main characters all that much, and wasn’t terribly crazy about the choices they were making and what they were doing, but darned if I could put the book down. For the week I spent reading it (during down time at work), I rushed through the reading that I had to get done for my classes just so I’d have a few minutes at least each day to pick this up and see what Isis and Jack were going to do next. The fact that Ms. Wolf only gives us vague clues for much of the book about what happened in the past with Jack, Wren, Avery, and the mysterious Sophia really kept me turning the pages as well.

I needed to know. Immediately, if not sooner.

And that ending? Gah! Warning: it’s pretty cliffhanger-ish. Jack’s firmly entrenched in his Ice Prince shell, Isis is…well, I can’t say, that would be a major spoiler–but there’s something big going on with her and she’s just met someone even bigger, so…yeah. I need the next book. Like, yesterday.

Sigh. But I’ll wait until November. Because honestly, I probably wouldn’t be able to take that much Isis (and Jack, but mostly Isis) craziness in such close proximity to the last dose. They/she can be a little tough to take at times.

But still. I MUST KNOW. And so I will read book 2 as soon as it is re-released.

(But please don’t delay it, Sara Wolf and Entangled Publishing!)

Sara Wolf, Author of LOVE ME NEVER (Lovely Viscious #1) Talks About Finding Inspiration (with a giveaway!)

LoveMeNeverTour

Finding Inspiration

Do you ever have those pieces of media you can’t get enough of? For some people it’s a series on Netflix, for some it’s a book series. No matter what it is, you have to have more of it right this second or you’ll die. It consumes you, and before you know it you’ve stayed up until three am reading/watching and your eyes are killing you but your mind is racing. How could that character do that? Why did that character cheat on that other character?

If you’re extremely obsessed, you’ll start thinking up different scenarios – what if that character didn’t die? What if she married her true love instead? What if she became queen? Stuff like that made me want to write LOVE ME NEVER – specifically, old old comic books I read that I loved as a kid. What if, I thought to myself, a heroine didn’t need a hero, but she found one anyway? What if she hated heroes? And thus LOVE ME NEVER was born.

I absolutely believe the passion you get while watching a good show or reading a good book is the best sort of creative passion, period. Whatever gets you pumped is something that should be celebrated, taken into yourself, and expressed in any way you know how. It doesn’t have to be through created media, it could be through cooking, or drawing, or even daily chores! If you love something, it definitely fills you with an incomparable energy for life.

So LOVE ME NEVER really came from my love for a comic, and the comic itself was based on a book written in the 1800’s. Honestly, inspiration is timeless, and everything we consume media-wise is totally connected and totally awesome. Star Wars? Inspired by Akira Kurosawa. Harry Potter? Inspired somewhat by CS Lewis! Inspiration comes from within, but it also comes from without. Let it take you great places! Bask in what you love, and you’ll make lovely things.

Excerpt:

“Who are you waiting for?” Knife Kid asks.

“That obvious, huh?”

“Jack, then. Screaming at him wasn’t enough?”

“He was the one who put the pictures of me all over school. Hell no, screaming isn’t enough.”

Knife Kid nods. “I saw the pictures. I had fun slashing them with my protractor. Nobody should be made fun of like that, I think.”

I don’t know whether to smile at how sweet he sounds or become extremely concerned at how creepy he sounds. I settle for a little of both just as Jack comes in. He walks right by and settles in his desk behind me. I turn and watch him take off his backpack.

“Hi.” I wave.

It takes him a moment to recognize me. Or a million. He focuses his gaze on me, then looks boredly to the window. He puts his chin in his hand, studies a pigeon in a tree with utmost intensity, and then all at once his eyes go wide. He swivels his head slowly back to me.

“You,” he murmurs.

“Me!” I chirp.

“What the hell are you doing in that?” he asks, eyes sweeping down to my chest, my legs, and up again.

“Damage control.” I smile. “Do you like it?”

“I’ve seen pigs dressed better.”

“Oh, I don’t doubt that, considering you see one in the mirror every morning.”
