New Release Review! RIPTIDE by Skye Jordan (Renegades #8)

Riptide

by Skye Jordan

Synopsis:

When pro surfer Zach Ellis isn’t traveling the world-wide competition circuit, he works as a Renegade stunt double for the hit TV series, Hawaiian Heat. After years of tangling with the ocean, his body has paid the price. So when he gets a shot at a star role on the show, Zach’s all in. He celebrates the career opportunity by taking a chance on a woman who’s not his usual island-girl type, only to discover he can’t bear to let her go.

Tessa Drake belongs mired in legislation battles in Washington DC, not standing on the sidelines of a filming set in Maui like a wannabe starlet. But even more important than her law career, Tessa needs Zach Ellis’s signature on legal papers. Papers that relinquish his parental rights so Tessa can adopt the girl who already calls her mommy. When she discovers Zach has slipped out of town before she makes contact, Tessa takes solace in the sexy star of Hawaiian Heat. A man whose warmth and dazzling grin makes her Mensa-level IQ vanish into thin air.

After an electrifying night together, Tessa is horrified to discover just who rocked her world. Zach is stunned to learn he’s a father. And both find themselves caught in a riptide pulling them in the opposite direction of their dreams.

Review:

These two females were like riptides. They’d snuck up on him, grabbed hold, and dragged him under.

Riptide is a secret baby story…with a few complicated twists. It’s my first read in the Renegades series, and at first I was a bit overwhelmed–the whole Zach/Ian aspect of the plot (how Tessa managed to confuse the two was a clever plot twist, but it added to my wait, what’s going on…? feeling at first ;)), and who exactly the Renegades were–but everything soon smoothed itself out, and just like Zach, I found myself sucked into the story and dragged into the lives of the characters.

Tessa. Sophia (OMG, what a cutie. And what a three-year-old. Poor Tessa and Zach!) And Zach. Three characters who it’s pretty much impossible not to root for–and yep, what a ride they take us on!

So yes, my first book in this series will absolutely not be my last!

New Release Review: WILD KISSES by Skye Jordan (Wildwood #2)

Wild Kisses
by Skye Jordan

Synopsis:

Newly divorced, Avery Hart returns home to Wildwood eager to take on her dream opportunity and transform her family’s dive bar into her own bakery. The contractor for hire isn’t just a master with his hands—he’s big, built, and wears a tool belt like nobody’s business. Despite being an ex-con, Trace Hutton is irresistible. Too bad he’d never go for someone as inexperienced as Avery.

Trace needs to focus on the job at hand, not daydream about smearing icing all over the sexy baker…and licking it off. This job is the key to getting his construction company back on its feet after his time in prison. Besides, no one deserves a fresh start more than Avery, and she certainly won’t get that with him.

After a delectable night of passion (and pie), Trace craves something more. But he’ll be damned if he’ll let his checkered past crush her dreams. And as Avery starts to realize how Trace fulfills more than just her physical needs, she struggles with whether to let her history decide her future, or explore the wild new possibilities of forever…

Review:

I am loving this series!

Wild KIsses is the story of Avery Hart, second of the Hart sisters, fresh from her divorce and ready to start her brand new cafe, giving new life to a building that has had such a toxic past. She’s stretching herself thin, baking as if her business depends upon it–okay, it kind of does–and cultivating customers, both in her hometown and online. She’s sinking everything she’s got into the business–literally.

And she’s trying really, really hard to not think about Trace Hutton, the contractor her sister hired to help her renovate the building. But it’s not easy.

Trust me, it isn’t 😉

Trace is looking to start over–he’s wasted far too much of his life paying for past mistakes, but now his dad needs him and it’s time to prove himself at last. Fixing up Avery’s cafe could be the key to everything. If he can finish on time for her grand opening and make it the building of her dreams, it just might convince the skeptics of his hometown that he’s turned his life around for the better. Or at least get him some new clients…but not if he can’t keep his mind off of Avery. She’s off limits, for a multitude of reasons.

But of course they can’t keep their thoughts–or their hands–off of each other, and thank goodness for that 😉 The sparks they generate could power up every one of Avery’s fancy new ovens, and then some–so really, their plan for “one and done” was doomed even before they finished making it. They do have decent reasons for staying apart: Avery’s disastrous first marriage has turned her off of relationships, and Trace of course believes that getting involved with him could permanently ruin her chances for a do-over.

Fortunately they manage to figure things out and achieve their HEA, just in time for (I’m assuming–though Ms. Jordan really didn’t give us much more than the barest of hints here) youngest sister Chloe’s book. I’m totally looking forward to Trace and Avery looking all adorable and in love in book three, much like Ethan and Delaney were in this one. (Favorite scene with the two of them–when someone upsets Avery, who goes to Delaney to vent. Ethan pops in, asks whose a$$ he has to kick, and when Delaney tells him, he responds, “She doesn’t drink beer anyway. Consider it done.” He’s a brewer.)

If you’ve read their book (Forbidden Fling), you too will love the Delaney and Ethan moments, but if you haven’t yet, no worries. Wild Kisses should do just fine as a standalone.

Meet the Author:

Skye’s New York Times bestselling novels are all about enjoying that little wild streak we all have, but probably don’t let out often enough. About those fantasies we usually don’t get the opportunity to indulge. About stretching limits, checking out the dark side, playing naughty and maybe even acting a little wicked. They’re about escape and fun and pleasure and romance. And, yes, even love, because Skye is ultimately a romantic at heart and a happily ever after kinda gal. Skye also writes romantic suspense as Joan Swan, weaving fast paced novels of passion, danger and suspense.

Skye is a California native recently transplanted to the East Coast and living in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington DC with her husband of 25 years. She has two grown daughters in college in Colorado and Oregon. In her free time she loves rowing on the Potomac. She’s always learning, attending courses and seminars in art and history and cooking.

New Release Review! WILD ZONE by Skye Jordan (Rough Riders Hockey #4)

Wild Zone
by Skye Jordan

Synopsis:

Tate “The Saint” Donovan’s jaded outlook really makes him more of a devil’s advocate. Ever since he discovered his ex-wife doing more in their bedroom than rooting for the home team, he’s given up on finding The One. In fact, he’s given up on finding Any One. So he isn’t surprised when his teammate’s engagement party is one mishap away from going up in flames—until a sexy, free spirit whisks in from Paris and drags the party from the fire. She’s whimsical, wild, and oh so wrong, but her breezy, freestyle attitude makes her utterly irresistible. Tate’s halo slips. He takes a walk on the wild side. And discovers wrong has never felt so right.

With big plans on the horizon, Olivia’s laissez faire attitude toward men is a perfect pairing. She’s drawn to Tate’s wounded soul, and the protective warrior beneath his brooding mask intrigues her…right into bed. Olivia quickly realizes the possessive passion he brings to the bedroom is like nothing she’s ever experienced, and her feelings for Tate turns her take-it-or-leave-it style love life on its head.

With her return to Paris imminent and his grueling hockey season approaching, Olivia and Tate must face the possibility that they are destined to be nothing more than star-crossed lovers.

Review:

Tate’s story! Yesssss!

Okay, so he was a bit of an annoying older brother and PITA best friend when he found out that Rafe and Mia were dating on the sly in Dirty Score. But he got over it…mostly. And the poor guy’s got reasons–his ex, Lisa, really did a number on him…seeing him in the first scene here, when he’s at Eden and Bennett’s (Hot Puck) engagement party, surrounded by happy couples and families all around? Broke my heart. Right then and there, I decided I needed this guy to get an HEA and get it soon. Fortunately, Olivia would appear soon to rescue him. Kind of.

She was there to do some kind of rescuing, anyway… 😉

Tate and Olivia were OMG so right together. I think I might have been more upset than Tate about the expiration date on their relationship. Honestly, I was about ready to sit the two of them down together and insist that they figure out some way to make sure they each got what they wanted from life and managed to keep their relationship going…and would have, except that I just can’t seem to get fictional characters to listen to me, which is a shame.

Fortunately, Ms. Jordan had it all figured out for them, so no intervention on my part was necessary.

Absolutely loving this series! How many more single guys are left on the team? 😉

Wild Zone is the fourth book in the series, but could be read as a standalone if needed. Actually, you’ll probably like Tate better from page one if you haven’t read the previous book–though he quickly becomes a more sympathetic character in this one, once we’re given a deeper glimpse into his POV.

New Release Review! DIRTY SCORE by Skye Jordan (Rough Riders Hockey #3)

Dirty Score
by Skye Jordan

Synopsis:

Rafe “Savage” lives up to his name on the ice and in the bedroom. Forging a legacy as the Rough Riders’ most notorious playboy is easy when the woman he really wants is off limits. Mia’s brother isn’t just Rafe’s best friend, he’s also a teammate. With the Cup in sight, Rafe won’t screw with anything that threatens the team’s winning streak. But when Mia comes to town on a mission of her own, one little woman may turn out to be the toughest opponent Rafe’s ever faced.

When it comes to men, Mia is everyone’s best friend. But when it comes to romance, her relationships are destined for failure. With a new job awaiting her on the other side of the country, she’s determined to start fresh. To do that, she needs to let go of this stupid crush once and for all.

Seducing Rafe isn’t just the best option; it’s her only option. Until she discovers he’s been harboring the same feelings. And with his team weeks away from the biggest game of their career, and Mia’s new life waiting, their no strings affair threatens to tear both their worlds apart.

Review:

Loved this one!

Best friend’s little sister can be a great troupe, and Rafe and Mia had a bit of an extra complication added in since Tate’s (Mia’s half brother) dad was the dominant father figure in Rafe’s life as well–so by getting involved with Mia, Rafe would be endangering his relationships with both his best friend and the guy who’s acted as his father for years. Talk about pressure…

Which is why he’s avoided getting involved with Mia in any way he can–for the past year, it’s been by avoiding her altogether. But Mia’s had enough of that, so Rafe had better watch out 😉

Rafe and Mia had all kinds of chemistry, and lots and lots of super-steamy encounters–but running below the surface is all kinds of angst (the good kind, for the readers–for the characters, not so much!), since they have real reasons why they can’t stay together.

But OMG, these two need to be together. And Ms. Jordan makes us wait until nearly the very end to see how they can possibly manage it. Evil of her, but fortunately the journey to get us all there is so, so good!

Plus, did I mention there’s hockey? Bonus!

Dirty Score is definitely my favorite of the series so far…though I have high hopes for Tate’s story. Fingers crossed that he’s going to be next!

Excerpt:

Keaton looked at the winding stone staircase that led to a patio and an entrance into the Four Seasons. He knew because he sprinted these stairs in the morning.
“Those will take you to the lobby.” He released her waist and fisted his hands to keep the hunger in the pit of his stomach from driving him to grab her back.
She stared at him as if he’d spoken a foreign language for a moment, then extended her hand. “Come with me.”
The offer was so…sweet. It encompassed everything Brooke was—real and loving and warm and caring and honest. It encompassed everything Keaton thought he wanted.
“I…” He raked a hand through his hair, struggling against his habit to give in to desire whenever it suited him. “I can’t. You’re too…”
Her hand dropped, and a little frown creased her brow. “Too…?”
“Too sweet. Too good. Too important to me. Just too.”
She exhaled, closed the distance again, and pressed her body against his.
Keaton closed his eyes on a moan.
“Some men say,” she told him, her voice a sultry hum, “that there’s nothing like a good girl with a dirty mind. Where you’re concerned, my mind is good and dirty.”
Fire flared through his groin, and he forced his eyes open.
She was looking up at him with a gaze like the sparkling Caribbean rimmed in thick black lashes. Eyes he wanted to see in every stage of pleasure. He wanted to watch her eyes light with fire as he teased her with the promise of wicked excitement. Soak in the need drenching her expression as he pushed her past her comfort zone until she begged for him. Lose himself in the wild passion unleashed inside her when he drove her to ecstasy. And finally, the shock and awe of bliss as she recovered.
But this was Brooke, not a casual hookup. If their situations were different…
But they weren’t.
“Stop fighting yourself,” she said. “I can see your thoughts battling behind your eyes. If you aren’t interested, just say you aren’t.”
“I am,” he said immediately, vehemently. “I’ve wanted you since I met you in Vegas. I wanted you in California. I want you now. But I’m backing off for the same reasons I did then. Because I’m me, and my life is this, and you’re you, and your life is…”
He heaved a sigh, disgusted that he could talk endlessly and flawlessly about shit that didn’t matter, but now, when he needed someone he cared about to understand, his words got all tangled.
“Okay, stop,” she told him, her voice compassionate. Then she pressed her cheek to his chest, tightened her arms, and said, “Just stop talking and hold me.”
He closed his arms around her and laid his head on hers, his gut aching with regret. “I’m sorry—”
“Shush.” She cut him off. “Now count to twenty slowly.”
“What?”
“Just do it.”
She had to be the sweetest drill sergeant ever. So he did it. But somewhere around nine, her hands found their way under his tee, and her nails scored gentle patterns on his back, draining the stress from his body. And he lost count.
After another moment, she pulled back to look up at him. “Let me put something into perspective for you. We haven’t seen or spoken to each other in a year. After tonight, I won’t see you again for a long time. Neither of us knows how long. It could be another year. It could be longer. So the idea of not being together now to keep a vital friendship intact isn’t very realistic.”
He frowned, mulling that over.
“I think the reason you’re twisted over coming upstairs with me is because you’re a really good person and you don’t want to hurt me. But I’m a big girl, Keaton, and I’ve been navigating my way through hookups for years. I may be sweet, but I’m very open to being whatever you want or need for the night.”
Holy shit. Keaton’s mind strayed deeper into those sexual thoughts again—undressing her, getting his hands on her bare flesh, pushing his hips between her thighs, having her completely and totally wrapped around him…
His resistance slipped a notch.
He lifted one hand and rubbed his face, hoping to pull himself from this haze. “I can’t think.”
“That’s a good thing.” Her hand slid down his chest, his belly, rested on the waistband of his jeans. “You’ve been thinking too hard.”
And she flipped the button open.

Release Day Review and Giveaway! HOT PUCK by Skye Jordan (Rough Riders Hockey #2)

Title: Hot Puck
Author: Skye Jordan
Series: Rough Riders, #2
Release Date: October 3, 2016
Category: Hot Contemporary Romance

Book Summary:

The pressure has never been more intense for Rough Riders’ star defenseman Beckett Croft. With his contact expiring, Beckett has to live up to his badass reputation every minute of every game to earn the next big deal. A deal that will secure a stable home for his five-year-old daughter. So when an injury on the ice threatens to send him to the ER, he fights protocol—until the feisty EMT refuses to take no for an answer. Beckett likes his women assertive, and the spark between them is nothing short of scorching. Her indifference to his fame and money only intrigues him more. And by the time he peeks beneath her tightly sealed edges to see her beautiful but deeply wounded soul, he’s in way too deep to pull back.

After years of shutting herself off from men, Eden is tempted by the heat that blazes when she is around the NHL’s most notorious bad boy—even toying with an inkling of “what if”. But life has taught her how painfully that kind of fire burns. And how deeply it scars. So Eden denies the spark room to grow, the same way she shut out the violence from her past, focusing instead on her career and finishing paramedic school. She’ll never rely on a man for money or security again.

But when the heat between them becomes too hot to ignore, one night isn’t enough. Soon, Beckett and Eden find themselves caught between desire and fear—with painful pasts pulling them in one direction and a fragile new love pulling them in another. All while the family and careers that matter most hang in the balance.

Excerpt:

Beckett lifted his gaze to hers. Those light blue-green eyes were heavy lidded and hot but soft. As soon as he pulled her thumb from between his lips, she leaned in and pressed hers in their place, then sighed as if she’d been waiting forever to rest her mouth against his.

A wild little sliver of desire snaked down his spine. Beckett closed his eyes, slipped a hand around the back of her neck, and opened to her. She responded like she’d been reading his mind. Her tongue slid right into place against his. The rhythm of their kiss was instantaneous and hungry and took Beckett’s already interested cock to half-mast. He leaned into her, losing himself in the sweet, erotic taste of heat and woman. The slick, smooth stroke of her tongue. The supple suction of her lips. And, God, the little purr in the back of her throat made Beckett want so much more.

She pulled out of the kiss and pressed her cheek to his, leaving Beckett dizzy. “You sure can make a girl forget her own name.” Her nails scraped gently along the back of his neck, and she rolled her head to press kisses to his jaw. “What were we talking about? Your family…right. Where do they live?”

“Wow,” he breathed, “that was so not where my mind was.” He had to force himself to refocus. “They’re all in and around the DC Metro area.”

“They’re so close.” She leaned away just enough to smile up at him, a new light in her eyes. She scraped her wet bottom lip between her teeth, then moved even closer and draped one thigh over his. Do they come to your games? And where was your mind?”

He automatically covered her thigh with his hand. Her soft dress felt sinfully delicious. “When they can. They have busy lives too.” He couldn’t keep his hand still and found her thigh toned and supple and warm beneath the soft fabric. “Eden, I’m having a really hard time thinking about anything other than you right now.”

“I’m having the same problem.” She pressed a flat hand to his tie and slid it slowly down his abdomen. “But at least I’m trying.”

He took a gooey chunk off the cake with his free hand and braced his elbow on the table as he lifted the chocolate to her lips. “Trying to what? Think about nothing but me? Because I would support that decision two hundred percent.”

She was laughing when her lips parted to take the chocolate, but the humor faded as soon as her mouth closed. Her warmth tingled through his hand, and then the gentle suction of her lips tugged on his fingers.

“Damn, you are so beautiful.” He listed forward, leaning his head against hers. Watching her lick and suck his fingers clean made his cock flinch and throb, begging for the same attention. Not only had it been a long damn time since he’d had decent sex, but it had been fucking forever since he’d had a woman give him this sort of focused attention. Only now, when the promise of that kind of pleasure glittered on the horizon, did he realize how badly he needed it.

Fuck, you’re good with your mouth.” His other hand flexed and released on her thigh. He turned his head and put his lips at her ear whispering, “Will you tell me what you have on under your dress tonight?”

She licked the tip of his thumb. “I could, but that would ruin the surprise.”

His heart did a three-sixty. He was probably pushing the envelope, but he really didn’t know how else to live. It was what he did. It was who he was. “What if I felt it? That wouldn’t be looking.”

He bent his head and pressed a path of kisses along her jaw. Her fingers curled into the front of his shirt. He tasted the sensitive hollow behind her ear, and Eden tipped her head toward him and sighed.

“God, you are sweet.” He lifted an arm over the back of the booth and brushed the hair off her neck, kissing her there. Then he slipped his other hand beneath the edge of her skirt, opening his hand over the soft suede of her boot top before spanning the inner thigh of her leg draped over his own.

His palm hit the warm, bare skin of her thigh, and the shock of intimacy traveled through his body like lightning. “Fuck.” In this cold weather, he wasn’t prepared for skin-on-skin contact. He pressed his forehead to her neck and let his fingers sink into the supple muscle. “Baby, I think your sexy just blew my circuit.”

Her laugh started as a giggle and grew until it shook her whole body. Her happiness added to Beckett’s joy until he couldn’t stop smiling. And he knew this short time with Eden would count as one of the best dates of his life, even if they never got any further than this.

Then she went and blew another fuse by whispering, “Go ahead. Touch me.”

Review:

Gah! How did I miss book one of this series ( Quick Trick )? Must. Read.

I loved Eden and Beckett’s (and Lily’s!) story. The famous athlete with an “ordinary” girl who doesn’t like or follow his sport is becoming a familiar troupe in sports romances, but Ms. Jordan ups the stakes with this one, adding in Eden’s difficult past and Beckett’s (temporarily, anyway) secret single fatherhood. I seriously had trouble putting this one down, I was so focused on getting all three of them to their HEA. (And once Lily’s mother pulled the stunt she did, there was no stopping reading, because OMG I just couldn’t leave any of them hanging like that!)

Both Eden and Beckett had to work hard to get to their happy endings with this one–Eden needed to overcome the worst kind of betrayal and loss and learn to trust again, and Beckett had the struggle of a lifetime on his hands making sure that he gained permanent custody of his little girl. There were many rocky patches along the way, but even when it looked like things were at their bleakest, they were able to turn things around. I loved that both of them were willing to take responsibility for their own actions and admit when they had made a wrong or hasty choice. And phew, is it a good thing the two of them don’t spend too much time together on the ice, because talk about temperatures rising… 😉

Which all leads me to the best. Epilogue. Ever. Seriously, so good. In fact I think I just might go re-read it one more time after I finish posting my review. It’ll definitely make up for the fact that it’s a Monday morning.

The camaraderie between Beckett’s team members had me laughing out loud more than once–I can’t wait to watch more of these guys find their HEAs in future series books!

Author Bio:

Skye Jordan is a pseudonym for New York Times bestselling romantic suspense author Joan Swan. Skye’s novels are about enjoying that little wild streak we don’t let out often enough. About those fantasies we rarely get the opportunity to indulge. About stretching limits, checking out the dark side, and maybe even acting a little naughty. They’re about escape and fun and pleasure and romance. And, yes, even love, because while wicked-great sex is good, happily ever after with wicked-great sex is even better.

When she’s not writing, Skye loves to read, knit, craft, row, ride, and dabble in photography.

Synopsis:

Read An Excerpt…

“Fuck, you’re good with your mouth.” His other hand flexed and released on her thigh.

Touch me.”
