Synopsis:

In this New Adult debut by Robin York, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

Review:

I LOVED this book. Robin York did an amazing job getting into the head of both Caroline and West and really making you feel everything they were. Even when you were screaming at them (in your head, of course. Um, mostly) to do something different from what they were doing, you got why they were doing it.

I am so glad that when I was a teenager/college student there was no Internet or smartphones with cameras? The idea of revenge porn is horrific and terrifying, and I can’t even imagine having to deal with the concept let alone the reality. Kudos to Robin for tackling such an intense subject and doing such a fantastic job with it. My heart was breaking for Caroline, at the same time I wanted to pound her ex into a bloody, pulpy mess.

Hmm. Kind of like West did….

Anyway.

There isn’t a solid resolution here–book two, Deeper is coming out in July, but I was fairly content with how this one ended. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I am a fan of the HEA is general, but these two characters are nowhere near ready for that. As they stand in this one, they both have way too much to work out and figure out on their own and in their own lives before they can even think of being together.

That said–JULY? WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR JULY??? Sigh….

Tissue alert–I was near sobbing at the end. You have been warned.

5 stars/ A rating.

I received an ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
