Synopsis:

Teague O’Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family’s name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a “business” alliance, Teague’s ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and he decides he will do everything in his power to protect her.

Everyone knows the O’Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn’t aware of just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. The closer they get, though, the more trouble they’re in. Because Callie’s keeping a dark secret—and what Teague doesn’t know could get him killed.

Review:

Anyone who thinks you have to work hard to get a decent amount of conflict in a contemporary romance clearly hasn’t considered one with a heroine or hero–or a heroine andhero!–who’s part of a mafia family. Conflict galore! Not to mention major drama, and angst, and just…whoa.

I really liked The Marriage Contract. It was very different from the rest of Ms. Robert’s books that I’ve read–definitely darker, for one; there’s always an element of “but” in an HEA for a mafia family member, isn’t there?–though it was just as steamy as her others, that’s for sure. Callie and Teague are great characters–thrown together in an arranged marriage for the good of their families, they still manage to fall hard for each other. Yeah, it happens pretty quickly, but with everything that’s going on around them it felt believable.

But oh, Ms. Robert put them both through the wringer! So. Much. Drama. Bad stuff happens. (I almost caused my still-new-at-this-driving-thing son drive off the road when the worst thing happened, because I just couldn’t keep my “No, no, no, NO!” inside. Sorry, Mini-Moe #1. I love you, hon.)

Teague’s family–the O’Malley’s–is going to make an awesome series. We’ve already gotten a good taste of book two ( The Wedding Pact ) in this one, and I cannot wait to read it. I’m guessing they’ll stand alone all right, but you’ll really get a better feel for the world surrounding them by starting from the beginning, so jump onto the series now!
