The Accidental Countess
By Emma Hart

An earl and an artist walk into a bar, and the barman says—never mind. They’re in a church, and they’re married now. Oops.

My name is Evangeline Astley, and the only thing you need to know about me is that I never imagined this was how my life would go.

I was supposed to devote all my time to painting gorgeous things to eventually open my own art gallery. Instead, I spent it all trying to sell my art to save my parents’ hotel.

Cue the Earl of Anglesey and his not-so-stunning idea.

Matthew Bennett needs an heir to the earldom, but for an heir, he needs a wife. And I’m the one the extremely eligible bachelor has chosen. Except I’m just as marriage-phobic as he is, so naturally, I refused—until he gives me an offer that I couldn’t.

If I agreed to marry him, provide an heir, and divorce amicably in due course, he would save The Fox and Hound hotel that I love so much.

That, ladies and gents, is how I became the Countess of Anglesey.

The one thing I didn’t count on, however?

Falling in love with my husband.

Review:

A lovely wrap-up to the series!

Eva and Matthew’s story was possibly my favorite of the 3 The Aristocrat Diaries books, and not *just* because of the warm fuzzies the four-years-later epilogue left us with. The marriage of convenience trope can either be a lot of fun or fail spectacularly–often it’s hard to make a modern day one really feel believable–and fortunately, this one worked pretty well. Plus it was both snarky and sexy as heck, so, bonus 😉

I loved the setting of this one–Matthew lives in a maybe-it’s-a-castle in Wales–and OMG, his nan is an absolute riot. (Though he might eventually regret introducing him and Eva, because those two together could be total trouble.) I do wish we’d seen a bit more of Matthew and Eva in the “before” times–they go very quickly from casual hook-ups, to engaged, to married, to…something else, wink wink–but they were really cute together from the start, so it was easy to root for them to make their kinda fake relationship real. So yes, it was a bit rushed, but still cute.

Since this one does wrap up the series, people who have read the other 2 will definitely appreciate seeing how the other couples are faring in their HEAs; however, you don’t have to have read them to enjoy this one. Chances are that you’ll be adding the other two to your TBR before you’re halfway through, though, so don’t say you haven’t been warned 😉
