I joined the team at Jameson Force Security three months ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Leaving behind the Marine Corps together, my dog Omega and I made the cross-country trek to Pittsburgh for an exciting new career. Now I get to spend my days doing dangerous missions with my team and Omega gets to spend his days relaxing, unless there are explosives to be sniffed, and then he’s all paws on deck.

When Omega—who I affectionately refer to as Bubba—snacks on something he most definitely shouldn’t have, an emergency trip to the vet introduces me to Abigail Blackburn. She’s a little quirky, a lot smart, and completely captivating. She also has a penchant for trouble and when Abby makes it her own personal mission to expose the puppy mill industry, she finds herself mixed up with unsavory characters who aren’t happy with her efforts to cut into their profits

This seedy underbelly is a dangerous place, particularly for a well-intentioned, yet somewhat naïve, small-town vet. What began as peaceful protests outside of local pet stores has escalated into something that threatens Abby’s safety, and I refuse to sit by and watch her get hurt. Somehow this raven-haired beauty has gotten under my skin, and I don’t hesitate to call in my teammates at Jameson to help keep her safe.

Now I find myself trying to balance my need to protect Abby while helping her successfully complete her mission, but also redirecting her focus long enough to show her that I’ve completely fallen for her. One thing is certain—this is going to be my toughest assignment yet.

Review:

A fabulous ending to a great series!

I *loved* Kellan and Abby’s (and Bubba, and Princess’s, and Roscoe’s, and Spud’s) story! I’m a sucker for a romance with adorable pets, and between Kellan’s bromance with his dog Bubba and Abby’s crusade against the puppy mills, this one definitely fulfilled that quota.

The suspense portion of this story was on low boil in the background for a good chunk of the book, which allowed Kellan and Abby’s growing romance to take center stage, wich was lovely. I appreciated that it was relatively low angst, all things considered–a bit of jealously here and there, easily overcome with some common sense–overall they’re two relatively well adjusted adults who just hadn’t found their right people yet who finally do.

When the danger and suspense take center stage, Kellan and Abby work well as a team (after a fashion; she does try to go it alone for a while but he quickly cottons on) and the Jameson crew have their backs when things get really bad. The antagonist is just the right amount of heinous without feeling overblown; watching him go down was extremely satisfying.

For fans of the series, this final book will get you caught up on where all the other couples are in their relationships, but if you’re a newbie you can still appreciate the closeness that the Jameson Force Security people all share. (And bonus–since Abby’s new to the crowd as well, she gets a crash course in all things Jameson Force Security that will fill in some gaps for you. Don’t blame me, though, when those snippets make you decide you need to increase your TBR by 9. Or do blame me. I can take it. #sorrynotsorry)

I’m sad to see the men and women of Jameson Force Security go, but am excited to see where Ms Sawyer will take us next!
