I am apparently incapable of putting these books down until I finish them–I simultaneously hope that Ms Kennedy is going to write more (Larson needs to figure out his sh!t, and surely Gabe deserves more than a half a page?) and am afraid of what will happen between those covers if/when she does, because OMG these characters and their storylines are a freaking hot mess…
This book really isn’t meant to be a standalone–you will absolutely get more out of it if you’ve read the first book in the series ( Misfit ) first. If nothing else, it was a lot easier this time around to keep track of who’s who in all the POVs (so. Many. POVs) from the beginning of this book, since we already know who they all are this time around. The biggest question book one left us with–what happened the night Casey Tresscott almost died–is finally answered, and I’m still processing how I feel about it. If you’ve read the first book–which again, you absolutely should do first if you’re going to read this one–

Though we get an HEA by the end for our main couple, I was a bit taken aback by how much of the book as a whole Casey and Fenn spend, well, not together. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing Casey come into her own here–she needed to figure things out for herself before primary defender/big sister Sloan goes to college, after all–but what happened to her romance? Almost all of it was replaced with pure angst, and that was…well, disappointing.
(And please tell me I’m not the only person who pointed out–yes, out loud–to the character who lamented that certain others at a party were “so high school” that, hello, you’re ALL in high school!?!)
So, yep–this was another case of I liked this one…but. Will I read another book in this series if Ms Kennedy writes it? Absolutely. Will I have certain reservations before (and probably during as well) doing so? You betcha. But gah–I can’t let these Prep school kids go…
