A Chat with Cristin Harber, Author of SWEET GIRL (plus a giveaway!)

Reading this one ASAP. I wonder which Bookish Bingo square I could count it toward? Maybe it can be the “summer release” one…

Welcome, Cristin! Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today!

Hi, Becky! Thanks for inviting me to swing over and chat.

What 5 things should readers know about you?

*I’m a SAHM mom and reader first and foremost. I read what I love and hate being without a fun book.

*Most of the foreign places in my books are places my husband has been for work (Colombia, Turkey, the West Indies, Iraq).

*I am a complete pantser, meaning I write by the seat of my pants. I have a vague idea of how the book will end, but getting there… I have no planned route.

* I’ll pick the mountains over the beach, Pepsi over Coke, dogs over cats, and screaming hot over sweet love stories.

*Unless there’s a follow up book already available, I will not read a cliffhanger. I just can’t live without a happily ever after ending.

Were we separated at birth, maybe? I feel the same way about cliffhangers—and if I get to one and didn’t know it was coming AND I have to wait for the next one? So. Angry. Argh. Pantsing every NaNo is making me crazy (okay, crazier), so I’m trying to be more of a plotter. My current WIP has an outline. Mostly. We’ll see how it all went at the end of the month. And hey, if I can’t bring my book with me, I don’t want to go!

Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉

Cash Garrison is loyal and loving. He’s a super stud but incredibly sweet.

Nicola Hart is a bit of a book nerd, always sees herself as friends-material, and has no idea that she’s everyone’s ideal girlfriend.

Together, Cash and Nicola are best friends that just don’t know if they should cross the line but when they do, it’s heartbreakingly hot.

And if they were stranded on a desert island, what would they bring? Nicola would probably grab a book so she could pretend to read instead of just blatantly staring at Cash. And he would bring… something like a blanket to cuddle on and stay warm. The guy is a total Boy Scout deep down.

Sounds awesome! Can’t wait to meet them 🙂

If your book were being cast as a movie, who would you want to play the main characters?

Liam Hemsworth and Hayden Panettiere would absolutely work.

And I would totally go to see them. Win-win.

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

All my life. I wrote short stories, little books, daydreams. Just everything. And one day I took on novel length and haven’t been able to stop. Growing up, my mom covered our home with books. She gave me my love for reading, which in turn created my writing passion.

My kids’ futures as authors should be sealed, then. My home is literally covered in books right now, since I’m combining my “normal” library with the one I had at school…it’s kind of scary, actually.

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

Hart Attack is the next full length book in the Titan series. A spin off series releases its first title at the end of July in a box set. Keep an eye out for Delta: Retribution.

Sounds great!

If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

Falling in love means going through hell. Hot, sweet, and heartbreaking.

Perfect!

Thanks again, Becky, for having me and sharing about Sweet Girl! I’m on Facebook and Twitter often, so feel free to have anyone say hi there!

Sometimes falling in love means going through the worst kind of hell.

A SWEET GIRL…

Nicola Hart grew up under the heels of her older brother and his sexy best friend, Cash Garrison. Years of ignoring her spark with Cash has transformed their friendship into a slow burning sizzle. One night with him could ruin everything. Or it could be more than she ever dreamed. They play. They flirt. But they haven’t crossed the line because too much is at stake. Family. Friendship. And the deepest kind of love that she’d have to be crazy to walk away from.

HE CAN’T STAY AWAY FROM.

She’s his best friend’s little sister. The definition of hands off. Cash has tried to ignore her for years. Those innocent eyes and her smile that screams kiss-me-if-you-dare… Instead, he’s looked at every pretty little thing who’s crossed his path, all to ignore the girl he seems destined to want. But when his hard partying ways get old and everyone at school is interested in Nicola, it’s time to stake a claim. To make Nicola his girl, no matter the risks, and hold the hand of the one he really loves.

Sweet Girl is the novel length prequel to USA Today best-selling Garrison’s Creed. Before Cash and Nicola can fall in love forever, they have to suffer through their first love.

Excerpt:

“You ready to go home?” Alone… Because he sure wasn’t. “Truck’s around the corner, down the block.”

She didn’t say anything. It wasn’t a no. Cash took her hand in his. He’d done it a million times for so long. Years of touching and hugging on her, teasing and throwing her around, arm around her shoulder, arm around her waist, a hand hold or an elbow grab. That had all happened, but this was different.

He rubbed his thumb over the ridges of her knuckles. He could tell she was holding her breath, and that was fine because he wasn’t breathing either. He took one deep breath in and laced his fingers with hers. Locked together.

Nicola’s fingers were delicate. With a gentle tug, he started toward his truck, and she fell into step. The slightest squeeze of her hand stole his heart. Cash focused on his truck. Figuring out where to go and what to do was secondary because, if he stopped now, something stupid would fall out of his mouth, like come home with me.

“Cash.” She stopped, and he didn’t let go. “Wait.”

“Just…” Just what? Give me a chance? Go home with me? Let me kiss you? Touch you, taste you? Just let us happen… Whatever that might be.

A shy smile teased her lips. “Why’d you ask me to leave with you?”

His furrowed his brow. “What?”

“I’m not good at these things. I don’t know what’s in front of me and what’s not. But I do know that you’re standing here. And…”

“And?”

Her eyes sank shut, and she sighed, swayed. A breeze swirled around them. “I like that.”

And God, I like you. He reeled her closer. Her softness pressed against him. “Nicola, we—”

“Cash! Cash!” a couple of girls across the street yelled. “We’re headed to TKX! You promised us shots!”

Bubble burst. Gone was the fuzzy look in Nicola’s eyes. The moment dissolved into the night, completely ruined. Damn.

She was bright and aware. Her smile looked painted. He wanted to throw his damn hat on the ground. “Nicola—”

Stepping back, she looked everywhere but at him. “I think you’d better take me home.”

They were still connected at the hand, but not interlaced anymore—locked together like the friends they were. She swung her hand in his then let it drop.

Round one, lost to a gaggle of drunk chicks. He threw his arm around her shoulder like it was any old night, and he hadn’t just held her hand, caressing her knuckles with his thumb.
