Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today! What 5 things should readers know about you?

  • I’m proud to be a nerd and am always willing to offer suggestions for reading/watching.
  • My rooms are often very cluttered, especially my desk.
  • I’m a very open person so ask me questions knowing I may give you detailed answers.
  • I work full time, take college classes at night, play video games most days with my husband, and write when I have time or have an idea that begs to be written down.
  • My husband is my soulmate who I met when I was 16 and is very instrumental in my writing. He also drew my Artemis Lupine Series book covers and the logo (which he did by hand on paper).

Cluttered desk=creative mind. I’m convinced of it. 😉

Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉

Tilia is our main character and she is feisty, loving, and very loyal. She loves fighting and sometimes that gets her into trouble. She would definitely need a dagger if stranded so that she could entertain herself.

For entertainment purposes instead of survival? Interesting…

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

My friend Jess and I were talking and I mentioned an idea I had about a royal girl who wasn’t who she claimed to be. We began tossing additional ideas back and forth and thoughts about her back story until we came up with the beginning of Pirate Princess and then I let the story flow as I wrote it.

Great story!

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

My first recorded story was at age 4, but my first finished novel was at age 16. I love telling stories and writing them down. I have always been a daydreamer and I began turning them into written stories for friends. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien was my first fantasy novel and that book really got me started in the fantasy genre, which I have been devoted to ever since.

4, huh? That’s an early start! Impressive…

What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

The best thing about being a writer is the freedom. I have absolute freedom to write what I want and have it end however I want it to. The most challenging part is looking objectively at a book after I’ve written it to decide if it’s a good story or one that my readers will enjoy. I have a few friends who are my initial readers that read through my first drafts and tell me how they feel about it before I decide whether or not to devote editing time to it.

Excellent answers 🙂

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

I’m working on Book Three of the Little Death Bringer Series currently, but starting November 1st for NaNoWriMo 2015 I will be working on the sequel to Pirate Princess.

Awesome! Good luck with NaNo!

What authors and/or books have inspired you?

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien was my initial fantasy inspiration back in high school, but Ilona Andrews is my absolute favorite author duo ever. Everything they write is stupendous.

Ilona Andrews—I have GOT to read something by them!

What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?

I’m currently reading The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas and it is amazing! I love the Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA Fantasy.

It’s on my TBR!

If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

Pirate Princess is a YA/NA fantasy adventure w/romance, magic, and pirates.

Pirates make EVERYTHING better 🙂
