On Tour with Prism Book Tours.
Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today, Karen! What 5 things should readers know about you?
Hi, Becky! Thank you so much for having me on your blog today 🙂 Since this is a Christmas-themed book, I’ll share five Christmas things readers show know about me…
- Christmas is my favorite holiday.
- My favorite Christmas gift of all time was a stuffed turtle named, of course, Mr. Turtle, who currently lives in a special spot of honor on the top shelf of my closet.
- More is more for me when it comes to decorating for Christmas. I’m all about the twinkle lights, the tinsel, the spinning ornaments, the glittering tree topper, the projected snowflake light show on the exterior house on my house… and yes… I’m the house you drive by and say, “What were they thinking?” lol.
- As a second-generation Italian, one of my favorite family traditions is a special Christmas Eve feast serving thirteen different kinds of fish.
- I’m addicted to Hallmark Christmas movies and cry every time I see them.
5 Christmas things—perfect! Love #3… 😉
Where did the inspiration for this book come from?
After writing A COWBOY TO KEEP, a western romantic suspense featuring Jack Cade, a rancher turned bounty hunter, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the rich history and beautiful setting of the dramatic Rocky Mountains. Jack’s quest to avenge his murdered brother, one of his five siblings, gave him a powerful backstory. Since his murdered brother, Jesse, was an opioid addict, I was also drawn to the theme of addiction and loss and how that can affect a family as close as the Cades. They were a broken family after losing a loved one. I wanted to write a series which would allow me to show how love is the path to healing by giving each sibling his or her own happily-ever-after.
Yay, a series about siblings! Win-win!
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?
I’ve been writing all my life, but only gained the courage to publish when my wonderful sister-in-law, Joanne Rock, a Harlequin and Tulle author, encouraged me to submit my stories. She also asked me to co-author a YA romance series with her which became my first published book in 2012. Since then, I’ve published fifteen books. CHRISTMAS AT CADE RANCH will be my 16th book with three more to follow this year.
Keeping it in the family—I like it!
What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?
I’m currently writing book four in the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COWBOYS series, A COWBOY’S PRIDE, which will finally solve the mystery of the cause of the feud between the Cades and the Loveland ranching neighbors. Next year, I will publish six books through Harlequin and Kensington publishing. Books two through four in the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COWBOYS series come out, starting with FALLING FOR A COWBOY in January, 2018, BAD BOY RANCHER in April, 2018, and A COWBOY’S PRIDE in Summer 2018. I also have a suspense series with Kensington Lyrical press, DALLAS AFTER DARK coming out in 2018 with Book One, DANGEROUS MOVES coming out in February, 2018, DEADLY GAMES, summer 2018, and WICKED NIGHTS in Fall 2018.
Fantastic! One question, though—how do you have time to watch Hallmark Christmas movies when you’re doing all that writing?
What are you currently reading, and what are your thoughts about it so far?
I’m currently reading FOR THE ROSES (Clayborn Brides) by Julie Garwood, a western historical. I absolutely love Julie Garwood. She gives her characters such strong voices that leap off the page, with humor, grit and determination. I haven’t read a book of hers that I haven’t adored.
I really need to move Julie Garwood further up my TBR—I hear nothing but good things!
If you had to “sell” your book in a single Tweet, what would you say?
CHRISTMAS AT CADE RANCH is a moving and magical holiday romance of two lost souls dealing with addiction, loss, faith, trust and forgiveness
Thanks again for hosting me today, Becky!
Thank you for stopping by, Karen! Happy book birthday <3
About the Author:
In a quest to provide her ELA students with quality reading material, educator Karen Rock read everything out there and couldn’t wait to add her voice to the genre. In addition to her work as a Young Adult romance novelist, she’s now an author for Harlequin’s Heartwarming line and thrilled to pen stories that moms can share with their teenage daughters. She’s loved Harlequin books since she spent summers going through her grandmother’s Presents books that she passed along in paper grocery bags each year. As half of the writing duo J.K. Rock, Karen also pens young adult romance. When she’s not busy writing, Karen enjoys scouring estate sales for vintage books, cooking her grandmother’s family recipes, reinventing her gardens to suit her moods and occasionally rescuing local wildlife from neighborhood cats. She lives in the Adirondack Mountain region with her husband, her very appreciated beta-reader daughter, and two Cavalier King cocker spaniels, who have yet to understand the concept of “fetch” though they know a lot about love. The Christmas they never had.
James Cade has one priority: keep the family ranch running smoothly in the wake of his younger brother’s death. With Jesse’s ex, Sofia Gallardo, and her young son, Javi, stranded at Cade Ranch over Christmas, this task just got a lot harder. The longer Sofia and Javi stay, the harder it is to imagine the ranch without them. James couldn’t save his brother from his inner demons, but he can give his nephew a secure future. Maybe more—if he can figure out how to trust Sofia, and stop feeling like he’s betraying Jesse. Because trying to stop thinking about beautiful, determined Sofia is impossible.
