Today I’m pleased to welcome K.E. Osborne, author of the Trust Me? trilogy to Becky on Books!

An interview with author K.E. Osborne:

Welcome! Tell us more about your book—take us beyond the official “book blurb”.

The character Jeni is based loosely on myself.  I am a little clumsy, I had a super controlling ex, and I have an absent father, so a lot of the book comes from my own experiences in the past. Her trust issues are based on my own and therefore it was easy to get inside Jeni’s head and figure out how and why she would react to certain situations. So when Aiden runs into the back of Jeni’s car with his own, I felt the frustration Jeni would have felt, as it is probably how I would’ve reacted in the same circumstance.

Sarah – Jeni’s BFF is based on one of my besties and the things she says and the way she acts was definitely drawn from her. She is a character and I had so much fun writing about Sarah and her beau Chris.

Give us more info about your main characters—who are they?

Jenifer (Jeni) Taylor is a blonde haired, green eyed girl from Mornington Vale in California. She loves everything pink and can be quite the clutz. She gets embarrassed easily and is normally dumbfounded by the words that come out of her best friends Sarah’s mouth.

Aiden O’Connell is the sweetest guy you’d ever meet. He’s hot, sexy and rich and there’s not a bad bone in his body. He works for his father at O’Connell Finance, and before Jeni came along, work was his life.

What scene in your book was the most fun to write, and why?

Anything with Sarah and Chris (the secondary characters). Sarah is fun to write; her whit and sheer lack of self control makes me bring out the worst in her when writing. I know she has me in stitches every time I write about her.

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

In high school I had a love of writing, but decided on a career in Graphic Design instead. It wasn’t until I had a vivid dream about a couple meeting through a three car pile up, that I felt like I had to write this story down.  Next thing I know the idea has turned into a trilogy.  My dream was in October 2012, and I set myself down and started writing solidly until the trilogy was on paper.  It wasn’t until my mum, found the work and started reading it that I realized I wanted to publish it.

What do you like best about being a writer?

Being able to create worlds and characters who can do or be anything you want them to be.

What is the most challenging part of being a writer?

Writer’s block is never fun but it can be overcome .  I generally either read a good book and have some down time or just put my mind to it even if it means rewriting.

Editing can be a drag especially when you have to go over the same manuscript endless amounts of times before you can send it off to a professional editor.  Then the manuscript needs to be formatted ready for publication.

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

At the moment I am working hard to get the editing done for All of Me? – Book three of The Trust Me? Trilogy. But as far as writing goes my first project is called Just Friends? which is about an Australian girl Kat Barett, who moves to LA to further her music career. She meets a cocky and arrogant Will Sanders, at her college. An Indie Director hires Kat and Will to star in an upcoming movie franchise. The story talks about their rise to fame, how they cope with it, and ultimately go from being just friends to falling in love. The second project is called It Will Rain? which is about Makailie Raine, a budding author who is on the right side of the tracks. She meets Cole Barrington, who is from the wrong side of the tracks. Cole is dominant and ruthless in his business dealings, which makes Makailie quickly realize there is something dark he is hiding from her. Cole is infatuated by Makailie and her innocence, but he doesn’t want to drag her into his darkness. This book may develop into a series of two books, but the first one is still in the draft stages of writing.

What authors and/or books have inspired you?

Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey gave me back my love of reading books. I love feeling the emotions when reading a good book for the first time.  That’s what helped to inspire me to start my writing career.

What are you currently reading?

Night Owl by M. Pierce

Please share a favorite scene from your books with our readers.

Trust Me? The Trust Me? Trilogy End of Ch 12:

“Oh, you’re cute when you pretend to be angry,” he says as he leans in for a quick kiss, the first in front of his entire family. I hear his father scoff at us. Nana tries to rein him in.

Aiden rolls his eyes and starts up a conversation with Benjamin, who is sitting next to him. The waiter comes around with more drinks for everyone.

“Thank you,” I say to the waiter. He nods in recognition. I take a sip of my wine, sit back, and listen to the soft music playing. Suddenly I feel very alone. Everyone knows everyone else except for me. I’m here drinking wine on my own. Is this what dinner parties with Aiden would be like? Would he be off entertaining his guests while I sit alone getting tipsy? I look over at Alistair and remember Nana’s words about him—He is his father’s son. Does that mean that Aiden might follow in the same path as his father and, in turn, turn out to be some arrogant, asshole prick? The wine is definitely getting to me. The waiter comes around with dessert. The chocolate mousse looks exceptionally fluffy, but I’m not sure how much of it I can actually eat. I take the spoon and scoop out a small portion of the mousse and put it in my mouth. It’s like I’ve hit chocolate heaven. Somehow I manage to consume half the dessert, but I can’t stomach any more. My nerves are starting to get the better of me. Mixed with the alcohol, the scene in the bathroom, and the abuse from Alistair, this night is becoming an emotional roller coaster ride that I want to get off. I sit back in my chair as the music changes from soft background music to loud but slow music. The dance floor lights up, and people make their way for a dance, young and old alike.

Aiden turns to me. He can see how bored I am. He takes hold of my hand and looks at me with sympathetic eyes.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have talked to Benjamin for so long. I neglected you. Can I make it up to you by having this dance?”

“Why not? But if you think I’m clumsy, wait till you see me dance.”

He stands, taking my hand in his, and lifts me from my seat. We make our way to the dance floor. A slow song plays as he puts his arm around my waist and holds onto my hand with the other. He swings me around, almost lifting my feet off the ground.

“Don’t worry. I’ll hold you tight,” he says, winking at me and pulling me even closer as we sway to the soft music.

Since Jason, I’ve been happy being alone because trusting someone was too hard. I wasn’t going to risk getting hurt again. As I stare into his eyes, all the doubts and concern wash away. I dance in the arms of my man, never looking away from his gorgeous eyes. I stare deep into his soul, and I’m here with him in this moment, and maybe, just maybe, Aiden is my exception.

Jenifer Taylor is content with her life, dull and boring as it is. Being absent from the dating scene means she doesn’t have to deal with the major trust issues she has with men that stem from a controlling and aggressive ex-boyfriend and an absentee father.  She’s happy being alone, sharing her life with her friends and family.

When Jeni starts a typical day in the big city of Mornington Vale, California, it turns from bad to worse when she’s involved in a chain collision on her way to work.

Her world changes forever that day because she meets Aiden O’Connell, the billionaire son of Alistair O’Connell, who owns Mornington Vale’s largest financial corporation. Aiden is an up-and-coming young businessman who’s ready to take on the vice presidency of his father’s company. He is the good son, and it’s imperative to Alistair that Aiden succeed and follow in his footsteps. Life for Aiden involves working hard and not much else.

After the accident, however, Aiden’s world changes as well. He finds Jeni irresistible and instantly pursues her. With some coaxing, she eventually agrees to a date, and the attraction is mutual.

Jeni finds love quickly with Aiden, but trusting him is another issue.  When to trust is tested in many different ways but comes to a head when Aiden is investigated for a serious crime.  As her trust issues spark, she is forced to go through a journey of self-discovery.

She must decide once and for all whether she trusts the man she loves when she’s asked the ultimate question: “Do you trust me?”

Excerpt from Trust Me?

I turn to face him; he puts his other arm around me. We are in the same position as before when the last kiss attempt failed. My arms are tight around his neck, his arms around my waist. I look down. He lifts up my chin so I’m lost in his gaze. His hand goes back to my waist. He swallows; I think he’s as nervous as I am. He tilts his head and leans in … I back away quickly.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, looking hurt.

“Oh, no, it’s not you. I think … I might have garlic breath.”

He laughs and pulls me back to him. “So do I.” He pulls me in tighter, and before I know what’s happening, his lips are on mine. I give in and surrender to him completely.

This feels like one of my fantasies, only way, way better. He holds me tight as one hand moves from my waist to caress my cheek, kissing me softly but sensually. My hands move to the back of his head, and I grab a lock of hair in each hand. He moves our bodies so that I’m against the railing at the edge of the deck. He moves his hand from my waist to hold the rail as I still grasp his hair. The kissing becomes feverishly passionate; his tongue against mine as they intertwine with each other. Our breathing becomes faster and erratic. Our kissing becomes more intimate. We are in perfect sync with each other. I pull him closer to me, our whole bodies touching. My heart is pounding fast and hard. His hand moves from my face to the back of my head, pulling me tight. He moves my hair from the side of my neck, breaks our kiss and kisses my neck slowly and seductively. I sigh and breathe in a stuttering motion. I open my eyes to see the waitress standing there, gawking at us. I stiffen as I see her. He pulls back and looks at me. With my eyes, I gesture toward the waitress. He turns, looks, and lets out a little huff. He leans in towards me.

“Now that’s a first kiss,” he whispers as he grabs my hand and leads me over to the table. I can’t help but smile.

Jeni’s trust issues return in a major way after an incident leaves her fragile and broken. Aiden and Jeni find themselves going through more trials and tribulations than ever before in this second installment of the Trust Me? Trilogy. In the end, Jeni will be asked the ultimate question: Do you still love me?

Excerpt from Love Me?

My nerves start to get the better of me, I start to feel nauseous; those darn pesky butterflies attack again. I’m not sure why I’m nervous, whether it’s the shoes making me unstable or whether it’s the memory of our first date, our first touch, or our first kiss that’s making me bashful.
I turn the corner to see him standing there with a bunch of red roses, in the suit that he changed into earlier, this time with a baby pink tie on. Behind him is that gorgeous waterfall cascading down the cliff with the lush greenery surrounding us. As I take a step closer, I hear music playing. “Thank You for Loving Me” by Bon Jovi. It’s our song. I feel my eyes welling up as all the emotion and love I feel for this man is becoming too much to bear.
His smile is beaming from ear to ear when I approach. Finally I reach him. He holds out his hand for me to take. I take it, and he pulls me into a tight embrace.
“This is perfect,” I whisper.
“Perfection for perfection, my love.” He kisses my cheek, and places the bouquet of flowers on the railing.
