Cindy Miles, Author of STUPID BOY, Talks About Her Inspiration for the Stupid in Love Series (with a giveaway!)

Listening to the radio in the car = getting inspired. Love it!

Believe it or not, the strangest place I’ve ever gotten inspiration for a book was…

In a car, riding home from a Maroon 5 concert in Tampa, Florida. I was with my daughter, daughter-in-law, and her mother. It was pretty late, (for me! Lol!) like after midnight maybe, and we were still about a half-hour from home. My daughter-in-law was driving, and she had popped in a CD mix she’d made. I was almost asleep when Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy” came on. I’m not sure why I woke up so fully, but I did, and listened to the lyrics.

Then I asked my daughter-in-law to play it again, and she did. Something about those lyrics, and Keith Urban’s voice, STUCK.

By the time I’d gotten home that night Brax Jenkins and Olivia Beaumont, the hero and heroine from the first book in the Stupid In Love series, STUPID GIRL, was born and almost fully formed in my head. I knew Brax was going to be from Boston, a total bad-ass, and that he was going to love baseball. (I love baseball, so that may have played a part in it!) And I knew Olivia was going to be special. Not a wimpering sissy but a really strong young woman who’d been through something tragic, and that the hero had inadvertently created more havoc (at first) because of his (stupid) actions.

And still, that same song and same lyrics still stayed with me in the writing and creating of STUPID BOY. I knew Kane McCarthy was going to bad-ass but in a different way. I definitely wanted him to be one of Brax’s foster brothers. And I knew Harper Belle, the heroine, was going to portray one side of her to everyone—leaving the real, broken girl on the inside. And that Kane would be the one to find that part of her.

All from a single, solitary song.

🙂

Synopsis:

From Cindy Miles, bestselling new adult author of STUPID GIRL, comes the next installment of her blockbuster Stupid in Love series – STUPID BOY.

Brax Jenkins and Olivia Beaumont are the most envied couple at Winston University—but the so-called “virginity dare,” orchestrated by Brax’s old fraternity, almost tore them apart. Now, a new dare is taking shape, and it’s sure to set emotions ablaze–more than ever before.

Winston’s “It Girl” Harper Belle isn’t just president of the Deltas–she’s also a master at keeping her ugly past a secret. So, when the Kappas’ dare hits closer to home for her more than anyone realizes, she devises a competition of her own as payback. Three sorority sisters will seek out a notorious womanizer on campus and–unbeknownst their “mark”–secretly train him to be the perfect boyfriend. Always up for a challenge, Harper targets the biggest player she can find: Brax’s wickedly handsome foster brother Kane McCarthy.

But, Harper discovers there’s much more to Kane than girls, games, and partying. His easy smile belies the quiet, old soul reflected in his deep brown eyes. All it takes is one night, one secret laid bare, and one kiss from Kane to shift Harper’s world on its axis. Suddenly, the girl who’s always walked a straight and narrow path can’t think of anything else except losing control.
