Hi, Becky,
Thank you so much for having me on your blog today to talk about finding the motivation to start writing.
I’m the grateful mother of 3 small boys. They came in rapid succession because my hub and I were too busy enjoying DINK life, we ran-out my biological clock. Those baby years were hard and I started reading a ton, but the heavy stuff was too emotionally taxing. I found romance novels, and fell in love with the endorphins, and happily-ever-afters.
When my youngest turned two and I started getting more sleep, I started thinking I can this. I can write my own story.  Can I get a, “Hell yeah!” I know you writers out there had that same moment or you wouldn’t be reading this blog.
And you know what–I was right, I could do it–and so can you.
If cranking out words is a problem for you, set your bottom in a chair, or walk on a treadmill desk, and get to it. Set a timer and tell yourself, I am going to keep writing, without stopping for 30 minutes. Just keep going. You’ll be surprised how the words pile up. Stretch your intervals to one hour, do it every day (increase dosage as able). Make a commitment. Honor your promises to yourself just as you would honor them if you gave them to a loved one.
If you don’t meet your goals, don’t beat yourself up. But, DO have a serious and TRUTHFUL conversation with yourself. Why not? Why didn’t I do it? If it is timing, get up at 5 am. The witching hour is my most prolific and imaginative writing time. It is hard, but I love it. And I love how I feel for the rest of the day. Is it fear of failure? Get over it. You haven’t even written a story yet! No one is looking over your shoulder. Give yourself permission to be BAD. You’ll get better, I promise. You just have to keep writing.
Ask yourself, if not today, then when?
After you have a whole book of words, you’ll think they glow with fairy dust. That is natural. When I entered my first contest I thought they had made a mathematical mistake when my score came back 56%. I’m embarrassed to tell you I emailed the contest coordinator. Yep, 56% was right. That’s failing folks. Many tears were shed–BUT, here is the important part–I kept writing.
Eventually I published a book. It wasn’t my first book, it was my third book. But I know without a doubt that if I hadn’t written books 1 and 2, there would not have been a book 3, Luck of the Dragon, or book 4, Stop Dragon My Heart Around (which just released Monday).
If you are an aspiring author, keep in touch! I’d love to hear about your certain success 🙂 Come find me in the transmedia world!
All my best,
Susannah Scott

Tee is Vegas’s favorite casino hostess, ready to grant her high rollers their every quirky wish. Unfortunately, Tee’s about to find out why their romance is such a long shot—Leo is a shape-shifting dragon.

Leo needs a proper dragon mate to save his waning dragon form, and despite their magnetic sexual attraction, he knows Tee is anything but proper—or a dragon. But when threats arise from Tee’s tribe, Leo’s protective instincts kick in. Can he give up his dragon form for the woman he loves—even if it means shortening his life? Or has Tee finally had enough of having her heart dragged around?

Excerpt:

The SUV lurched to the side again and above them, the steel roof opened like a can opener was prying into the vehicle. In the open space, Leo’s golden dragon roared. Flames licked the air above them and heat filled the cabin like a blast from a dry furnace.

Tee clung to the seat, reacting instinctively. The dragon landed on the roofless SUV and roared again. She put her hands over her ears to block the deafening sound.

“What the hell!” James yelled. He pulled her off the seat and put her between him and the dragon, shielding himself.

The dragon tilted his head, a slow, calculated movement in the center of the chaos. His golden eyes flared and in that moment, Tee thought she saw a hint of Leo in the beast. Leo. Leo the dragon.

Leo would save her.
