New Release Review! SMOKE & MIRRORS by Skye Jordan (Forged in Fire #2)

Smoke & Mirrors cover

Another sizzling firefighter romance from New York Times bestselling author Skye Jordan.

I’m taking a break from women. I’ve been lied to once too often, and I’m over it.
Then Isabel, my best friend’s little sister, blows into town without notice, bringing the past with her. Her secret past.

From the moment she crashes poker night and hustles the whole firehouse out of a couple hundred bucks, I know she’s not telling the truth about why she’s here.

Lies have influenced my entire life. They’ve also torn my world apart too many times already.

But by the time the truth comes out, she’s tangled around my heart like barbed wire, and there’s no way out unscathed.

Review:

The second book in Ms Jordan’s Forged in Fire series did not disappoint! We saw Logan in the first series book ( Flashpoint ) and with what his ex put him through there, I was really glad to see him get his own book already. (If you haven’t read that book yet, no worries–you do eventually get the details about what happened so you’re not too lost ;))

Isabel is Tucker’s sister–she grew up with his teammates Logan and Cole, and Logan was actually her *first* (in a let’s-not-go-to-college-as-virgins pact) so there’s definite second chance romance vibes going on here. She hasn’t been 100% truthful with her brother since she left to try to break into the fashion world in NYC, though, and her deception could get her in trouble now…

I really liked the chemistry between Logan and Isabel. Neither of them had a great childhood–both sets of their parents were anti-examples for healthy relationships–and Isabel’s need to protect her secrets and Logan’s need to not be lied to were definitely going to be a source of contention between them when the truth comes out (which we all know is going to happen). I liked how they resolved things (like grownups!) and 100% believed that these two crazy kids were going to be able to make it in the end.

Oh, and did I mention there’s a puppy! The firehouse menagerie continues to grow, and I AM HERE FOR IT.

Now don’t mind me, I’ll just be sitting here patiently waiting for book 3 to come out 🙂
