The Bookworm’s Guide to Flirting
by Emma Hart

What I thought I’d get on Valentine’s Day: books.

What I got on Valentine’s Day: a blind date with my brand new roommate.

Let it be known that I, Saylor Green, am wholeheartedly against blind dating. I think it’s superficial, unnecessary, and designed wholly to force people into relationships they aren’t ready for.

It’s me. I’m people.

So when Dylan Parker takes the seat across from me, I’m ready to dismiss him at one glance.

The problem? He’s hot and funny and sweet and the exact kind of guy I read about in the romance novels I sell like hotcakes in my bookstore.

He’s also my new roommate.

Who likes to walk around in his sweatpants and peer over my shoulder and comment on all my online dating escapades.

When he offers to help me flirt my way to dating success, I’m all for it.

But what am I supposed to do when the only person I want to flirt with is… Dylan?

Review:

The Bookworm’s Guide to Flirting is a super cute, really fun friends-to-lovers, slooooow burn (he lets her take things at her comfort level, so almost nothing serious happens relationship-wise until almost the end) story. It’s the third in this series, but also connected to other books written by Ms Hart (the Girl Next Door books, for example) and those characters are constantly around here–it *could* be read as a standalone, but there are extra layers of fun for those who have read the other books too.

Though I didn’t think it would be the case going in given how she was in the other books, Saylor might be my favorite heroine in this bookverse. I guess I just had to see things from her POV 😉 One third of a bookstore-owning trio, her views on books and mine almost exactly match (though I would rather not even bother with reading love triangles, exactly because of scenes like the one that kicks off the book). I mean, I felt seen in this conversation:

“Ooh, the new [insert author here] is out!” I reached up to the top shelf and snagged the last copy. “I’ve been waiting for this.”

“What’s it about?”

“I have no idea.” I added it to my collection.

“And you’re buying it.”

“Why wouldn’t I buy it? I already know I like her books.”

He frowned. “But what if you don’t like this book?”

I snorted. “Of course I’m going to like this book. Why is this so confusing to you?”

“I guess I wouldn’t buy a book without knowing what it was about. You barely even looked at the cover.”

With a sigh, I flipped the book over and read the blurb aloud. “There. Now you know it’s about a senator, a lawyer, blackmail, and lots of sex. Sold.”

See? We could be twins.

Except that I don’t have a hot British roommate.

Unfortunately.

But Saylor does, and he’s perfect for her. As this conversation proves:

“I like books.”

“Saylor, I think you’re in a very serious, very committed relationship with books. I’m feeling a little left out.”

I laughed as we got in the car. “Well, I’ve known books for years. They had to take it slow at the start just like you.”

And he does. Swoon!

I swear, Ms Hart just writes these books with the express purpose of getting us to read the next book, because OMG, the ending of this one–as adorable as it is–has me all but salivating for the next. Bring on the Introvert’s Guide books, I’m ready! 😉

Rating: 4 stars / A-

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

About the author:

Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels and has been translated into several different languages. She first put fingers to keys at the age of eighteen after her husband told her she read too much and should write her own.
Four years later, she’s still figuring out what he meant when he said she ‘read too much.’

She prides herself on writing smart smut that’s filled with dry wit, snappy, sarcastic comebacks, but lots of heart… And sex. Sometimes, she kills people. (Disclaimer: In books. But if you bug her, she’ll use your name for the victims.)

You can find her online at www.emmahart.org, www.facebook.com/emmahartbooks, or join her reader group at http://bit.ly/EmmaHartsHartbreakers.
