Shellee Roberts, Author of CRAZY STUPID FAUXMANCE (Creative HeArts #3), Talks About 10 Things She Wishes Someone Had Told Her About Being an Author (with a giveaway!)

CrazyStupidTour

Hi, I’m Shellee Roberts, author of Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance, the third book in the Creative HeArts series from Entangled Crush. Though I’m not technically a debut author, this is the first book with my name on the cover (I’d previously co-authored under a pseudonym), and I have so many emotions around the release of this book: excitement, elation, but also trepidation and exhaustion.

Don’t get me wrong, seeing this book in release (with such an adorable cover!) with my name on it is the culmination of a fourteen year dream that so many times I despaired would never actually happen, and now that it has, I love it more than I can possibly describe. And yet there were times I not only didn’t love this book, I actively loathed it. When I started writing I could never imagine feeling that way about my precious.

So, in no particular order are the 10 things I wish someone had told me about being an author:

1. The amazing sense of pride and accomplishment you will have when you see your book in print the first time is off the charts. So take the time and celebrate, but then get back to work. There are more stories to tell. And the second one is harder; you will struggle. Be okay with that.

2. Sometimes being a writer is going to demand more of you than you want to give–more time, more money, more missed opportunities, more emotion–and there’s no guarantee that at the end there will be any reward, monetary or otherwise. Be okay with that.

3. Writing is the cheapest therapy there is, but you’re also revealing all your issues and insecurities to the entire world. Be okay with that. It makes your writing better.

4. You will not be good at all the parts of writing. Ever. Period. Be okay with that.

5. The process you perfected to finish your last book may not work with the next one. You may have to figure out a new process each time. Be okay with that. Or you WILL. GO. INSANE.

6. The stories you want to write may not be the ones a lot of people want to read. Be okay with that. Just realize you may not be able to quit your day job, if that’s one of your goals. If it is, then be open to telling different stories with broader appeal. They’re still your stories; you’re not a sellout.

7. There will be a time during the creation of each book when you open it up, read it, realize it SUCKS like nothing has ever sucked before, and you will ugly cry. Be okay with that. And remember that your book is not you—you don’t suck.

8. A first draft is not a book, it’s a wad of crap. You will have to spend just as much time, maybe two or three times more, revising it to make it readable. Be okay with that. Or quit now.

9. The joy you feel when you write a great sentence, a great paragraph, a great scene is an addiction. But every sentence, paragraph, or scene cannot be great. Be okay with that. Stop tinkering and finish the book.

10. The intense rush of love and gratitude you will feel towards someone who reads your book, loves it as much you do, and says nice things about it publicly may make you question your sexuality at times. Be okay with that.

About the Author:shellee-roberts

There are three things (besides her family) that Shellee loves more than Netflix: Dr. Pepper, OTPs, and book boyfriends (I’m looking at you, Gilbert Blythe).

Shellee has been told that her life goal as a writer should be to win prestigious awards that will grant her literary immortality, but as an OG ‘shipper (like, seriously, Tad and Dixie–my first hardcore ship) all she really wants is to create two characters that people love so much they give them a cool mashup name.

Shellee spends her days living the dream with her family in Austin, Texas–and by living the dream she means waking up at the crack of dawn to go to work, chauffeur, walk dogs, do dishes, and fold laundry. At night she gets down to to real business, basking in the warm, blue glow of her computer screen and bringing the stories in her head to life on the page…or watching Veronica and Logan fan videos on YouTube till 2am.

Tomorrow she’s definitely going to kick that procrastination problem to the curb.

Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Publisher:  Entangled Teen Crush

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a kickass heroine, a boy so hot he’ll make you shiver, and a falling-in-love story fit for the big screen. You’ll want to settle in and have the popcorn ready.

After Mariely Hinojosa and Cabot Wheeler both break up with their significant others at the same party, Mariely sees a way to get even with both of their exes. Everyone knows that the best way to get over a breakup is a hookup—a fake hookup, that is. Three weeks, all fun, no strings, and definitely no heartbreak at the end.

But somewhere between the sweet hand-holding and melt-your-mind kisses, their fake relationship starts to feel less like an act and more like the real thing…but Mariely’s a free-spirited girl from the other side of the tracks, and Cabot’s the hot trust-fund guy from the Hills.

They’d never work for real…
