About HADES:

A fallen angel with a mean streak and a mohawk, Hades has spent thousands of years serving as Jailor of the Underworld. The souls he guards are as evil as they come, but few dare to cross him. All of that changes when a sexy fallen angel infiltrates his prison and unintentionally starts a riot. It’s easy enough to quell an uprising, but for the first time, Hades is torn between delivering justice — or bestowing mercy — on the beautiful female who could be his salvation…or his undoing.

Thanks to her unwitting participation in another angel’s plot to start Armageddon, Cataclysm was kicked out of Heaven and is now a fallen angel in service of Hades’s boss, Azagoth. All she wants is to redeem herself and get back where she belongs. But when she gets trapped in Hades’s prison domain with only the cocky but irresistible Hades to help her, Cat finds that where she belongs might be in the place she least expected…

Somewhere outside Azagoth’s Greek-style mansion, a bird of prey screeched. Cat loved hearing it. Not long ago, Sheoul-gra had been a dead realm, a physical manifestation of Azagoth’s emotional state. Dark and dreary, the “Gra,” as it was sometimes called, had resembled a toxic wasteland that couldn’t support any animal or plant life that wasn’t straight out of Hell itself.

But Lilliana’s love had changed Azagoth, and with it, his realm.

Now, when Cat strolled outside the palace, the grounds and buildings surrounding it teemed with life, from the lush grass, leafy green trees, and sparkling water, to rabbits, birds, and even the occasional fox or deer.

Smiling, she put down her feathered duster and headed from Azagoth’s pool room toward the mansion’s entrance, and as she rounded a corner, she collided with a body.

A huge, muscular body.

An instant, hot tingle pricked her skin as she leaped backward, crashing into something behind her. She heard something break, but at the moment, it didn’t matter.

This was the first time she’d touched Hades. The first time her ability to sense good and evil as a physical symptom on the surface of her skin had triggered. At least, it was the first time with Hades.

She’d always suspected he’d give off an intense blast of evil, but she hadn’t expected the evil to be tempered by a ribbon of goodness. She also hadn’t expected to be so…aroused by the vibes he gave off. Then again, merely looking at him aroused her, so why wouldn’t touching him do the same?

He stood there, bare-chested and wearing a skin-tight pair of silver pants that showed every ropey muscle and presented that impressive bulge at his groin like a gift. Criminy, he might as well be naked. She wished he was naked.

“E-excuse me,” she squeaked.

He looked down at her, one corner of his perfect mouth tipped up in a half-smile. Which was a first. Everyone seemed to get smiles but her.

“Thousands of years of loneliness was worth every second you’ve been in my life.”–Hades

If you’d have asked me a week ago, I’d have said that a guy with a blue Mohawk would not appeal to me. But now…

Hell, yeah!

Hades is both my first read in the Demonica/Lords of Deliverance series and from author Larissa Ione–but it definitely won’t be my last. I’ve already put holds on all of the audiobooks the NYPL has of hers, and will be checking with my library next. Ms Ione did an excellent job of giving just enough background in this novella so that a newbie doesn’t feel lost, and backed it up with some awesome characters that will have you 100% invested in their story.

And then she threw in a Princess Bride reference, and so help me, I was a goner! 🙂

Cat was a great heroine–a fallen angel who just might be the worst housekeeper the demon purgatory of Sheoul-gra has ever seen, her clumsy awkwardness, which increases about a millionfold when Hades is around, is totally endearing. The way she tries to make good on her mistakes (though at the same time not owning up to them until she has to) made her a relatable and easy to root for. Her internal dialogue was witty and fun, and once she got more comfortable around Hades she finally managed to give as good as she got. Loved. Her.

Hades was fantastic–irreverent, kick-butt, and fiercely protective of those who needed him. Even though he’s literally the Master of Torture, he’s also the guy who pulls pranks on other Unfallen and plays with hellhounds like they’re puppies.

Which they kind of are–only giant, man-eating ones.

Somehow the two of them manage to fall in love and save the world/Underworld in just about a hundred pages.

Bring on the rest of the series!

As the wounds of the Civil War are just beginning to heal, one fateful summer would foreveralter the course of a young girl’s life.

In 1868, on the barren shores of post-war Outer Banks North Carolina, the once wealthy Sinclair family moves for the summer to one of the first cottages on the ocean side of the resort village of Nags Head. Seventeen-year-old Abigail is beautiful, book-smart, but sheltered by her plantation life and hemmed-in by her emotionally distant family. To make good use of time, she is encouraged by her family to teach her father’s fishing guide, the good-natured but penniless Benjamin Whimble, how to read and write. And in a twist of fate unforeseen by anyone around them, there on the porch of the cottage, the two come to love each other deeply, and to understand each other in a way that no one else does.

But when, against everything he claims to represent, Ben becomes entangled in Abby’s father’s Ku Klux Klan work, the terrible tragedy and surprising revelations that one hot Outer Banks night brings forth threaten to tear them apart forever.

With vivid historical detail and stunning emotional resonance, Diann Ducharme recounts a dramatic story of love, loss, and coming of age at a singular and rapidly changing time in one of America’s most beautiful and storied communities.

Praise for The Outer Banks House:

“…There’s real darkness on the edge of this romance that hurls the lovers toward tragedy, as if the price to re-enter the innocence of Eden might afford Abby nothing but despair. This 2010 debut novel and portrayal of the historical Outer Banks offers a terrific option for beach reading; it’s the sort of novel that can be charming without requiring an abundance of character complexity and depth. Abby’s evolution ultimately parallels the positive aspects of how the South reconciled to change after the Civil War, a change that required a culture of ignorance to wash out to sea.” — Style Weekly Review

“It’s 1868, and the natives of North Carolina’s Outer Banks think the Sinclairs’ summer residence on the beach at Nags Head is right peculiar. Seventeen-year-old Abigail Sinclair is enlisted by her parents to teach Ben Whimble, her father’s fishing guide, to read. Abby is being courted by medical student Hector Newman and is appalled at the dirty and perpetually barefoot Ben. But Abby is also restless and slowly sees in Ben more than just a willing pupil. Ben might be getting sweet on his teacher as well, but her father has involved him in a matter that doesn’t sit right with the Banker, knowing that freedmen and runaway slaves have long lived contentedly out on Roanoke Island. It’s just three years since the end of the war, and for some, that isn’t long enough. VERDICT First novelist Ducharme has laced her novel with the sounds and the smells of the North Carolina shoreline. Racism and Southern tradition run along parallel paths in this affecting debut, where gentlemen can be less than honorable and enslavement doesn’t always involve chains. Highly recommended for fans of Southern fiction.” – Bette-Lee Fox — Library Journal, Starred Review

“A heart-felt and engrossing novel about the coming of age of two very different young people in the South just after the Civil War: a curious upper-class girl from an almost bankrupt plantation and a handsome young barefoot fisherman “made of sand and seawater” who comes to her to learn to read. What they learn from each other about tolerance and caring in those turbulent times will change their lives forever. A beautiful sense of this place by the sea, of a country in conflict, of death and redemption, and of new love.” – Stephanie Cowell, Author of CLAUDE & CAMILLE: A NOVEL OF CLAUDE MONET and MARRYING MOZART

“The Outer Banks House is a beautifully written and deeply moving story of a sheltered young woman’s awakening to life, love and the injustice of discrimination against former slaves. In theme and impact, shades of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn; in the evocative setting and fresh voice, a unique novel all its own.” – Karen Harper — Author of THE QUEEN’S GOVERNESS

She was the spirited daughter of a North Carolina plantation owner, and he was a poor fisherman who she tutored on the porch of her family’s Nags Head cottage. When we last saw Abigail Sinclair and Ben Whimble at the close of The Outer Banks House, they’d overcome their differences in life stations and defied convention to begin their new life together.

But now it’s seven years later, and Return to the Outer Banks House finds the couple married and in hard times—riddled by poverty, miscarriages, and weakened family ties. The strong bonds that once held them together have eroded over time, and their marriage threatens to unravel, particularly when relationships from the past and ambitions for the future find their way into the mismatched couple’s present predicament.

Can their love survive? Or are the challenges they face insurmountable? Return to the Outer Banks House carries readers back to 1875 to answer these questions and explore the ebb and flow of a rocky marriage set against the enchanting North Carolina shoreline. Replete with history, intrigue, and plenty of maritime drama, it’s an evocative tale of struggle in the Reconstruction-era South.

03_Return to the Outer Banks House_Cover
Praise for Return to the Outer Banks House:

“…Set between 1875 and ’76, Ducharme’s story—this being the sequel to The Outer Banks House (2010)—is about love and its many faces, from young and reckless to unrequited. Specifically, she explores the unlikely passion that forms between smart, affluent Abigail Sinclair and uneducated, penniless Benjamin Whimble. The people of this tightknit island community on the Outer Banks, off the coast of North Carolina, are connected by their collective poverty and abiding love for the sea. Outsiders are generally unwelcome…” – Kirkus Reviews

She soon followed up with her second book, Chasing Eternity, and in 2015 the sequel to her first novel, Return to the Outer Banks House.

Diann has vacationed on the Outer Banks since the age of three. Series sale! Get them while the low prices last 🙂

“A new must-read series from Violet Duke. Not only will you fall in love with the characters, you’ll fall in love with romance.” –New York Times Bestselling Author Kathleen Brooks

Cactus Creek’s most romantic eligible bachelor, new-to-town and new-to-singlehood chocolatier Luke Bradford believes in old school romance, fighting wars waged over love, and deploying his dimples whenever an impossible-to-resist woman instigates it.  But for once, he’s trying not to platter up his heart to get stomped on.  Luckily, he has a brand new hobby to keep him from falling:

…driving the addictively easy to incite beer-brewing beauty next door crazy.

Cactus Creek’s feisty brewmaster and town sweetheart Dani Dobson cannot believe how well that maddeningly charming man next door with all his chocolate-covered romantic idealism–the kind her heart has been shattered by before–can push all her buttons.  If she’s not careful, he’ll sneak right past all her defenses.  Luckily, she has her go-to hobby to keep her mind off him:

…playing her own version of cupid for everyone in town but herself.

When Dani and Luke’s inexplicable chemistry escalates their ensuing chocolate and beer feud into so much more, old wounds and new demons surface to bring them face-to-face with exactly what they’ve been protecting themselves from:

…the kind of love that can break their hearts all over again.

“Guaranteed feel-good, swoon-worthy romance!” — New York Times Bestselling Author Erin Nicholas

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Can’t Resist series, comes a fan-requested surprise addition to the USA Today bestselling Cactus Creek series.

She’s the Self-Proclaimed Wicked ‘Witch’ of the West

Fiercely independent single mom Quinn Christiansen is used to flying solo. She’s been raising her young son and figuring out how to pay his pediatric hospital bills on her own for years now. And truth is, Quinn loves the notorious reputation she’s already gained in town of having a heart too hard for any man to break. Because it is. Two carats too hard, to be exact. Courtesy of the two-carat heirloom she’d had to barter to cover her ex’s debts when he took off after she got pregnant. The day she’d promised herself never again.

So color her pissed when the universe goes and decides to make the one man in Cactus Creek not afraid of her natural ball-busting charm another gambling musician. A ridiculously handsome, wickedly gruff and gritty, pushy one at that.

He’s Everything She’s Sure She Can’t Possibly Want

Rylan Grey isn’t used to getting a woman so worked up…well, not in a bad way, at least. But somehow, his mere existence seems to annoy the guarded and gorgeous Quinn to no end. Surprising, really. A dirt-and-jeans landscaper by day with a regular gig to perform for a packed house by night, Rylan considers himself a decent guy. Sure, he’s made some gambles to get to where he’s at, but they were all of the life variety, with risks as important as the rewards, fate betting as the house, and not a single dollar in play.

While Rylan never wagers anything he’s not willing to lose—namely his heart—he’s more than ready to ante up once he sees past Quinn’s icy defenses. Quick as a firecracker, loyal to a fault, and sweet when no one’s looking, she could be his riskiest gamble yet.

“Heart-melting and guaranteed to make you laugh and cry before you finish the last page.” — New York Times Bestselling Author Sawyer Bennett

He’s a better fighter…but she has all the weapons.

After his combat injuries retire him from the military career he wasn’t ready to give up, battle-scarred Hudson Reyes now spends his new life as a movie industry fight scene and weapons specialist simply doing what he knows best: surviving.

Until he meets her. The one woman who makes him want to live again.

An antique arms authenticator with a lifetime of martial arts training, Liana Lin has made a living turning the demons of her past into the passions that fuel, and fill, her life. She’s a scrappy little thing. A sweet, angel-faced wrecking ball to his good intentions capable of making him laugh, and turning him inside out. Hell’s bells, watching her execute that wicked roundhouse kick of hers shouldn’t be a turn-on–especially not when his head is the receiving target–but hot damn, it is. She’s a fiery, unpredictable paradox who wears her heart on her sleeve, despite the wounds he knows she has hidden as deeply as he hides his own.

Even though she’s everything he’s told himself he can’t have, Hudson can’t help but want her. Sure as sin, if one woman could sneak past the barbed wires he’s wrapped around his heart, it’d be Lia.

Now if only they could stop sparring long enough to find out…

He may very well be the perfect ex…

Isaac McKnight has had enough loss in his life to know never to take anything for granted. So when the perfectly-imperfect-woman-for-him puts an end to their relationship out of the blue, it’s Isaac that makes sure they remain friends. Now a year later, whether it’s at his gym or her brewpub, or the dog park they visit every weekend–though neither of them own a dog–he and Xoey are steadily getting sucked deeper into buddy-zone galaxy, with its dangerous proximity to watch-me-settle-down-with-someone-else abyss. It’s a reality he’s resigned himself to. That is…until one drunken confession changes everything.

But she’s looking for the perfect oh…

For Xoey Montenegro, history has taught her that sometimes, it’s Prince Charming who vanishes without a trace. And fairytale love? Highly overrated. Heck, give her a real and perfect ‘oh’ over that fantasy any day. So as far as rock-solid tequila-fueled plans for her love life go, coming up with a match-finding formula based on the qualities of the men responsible for her three most epic ohs seems brilliant. Except for the fact that one-third of her genius little man-quation is all about her friend Isaac. Actually, more than a third if Xoey were being honest with herself–which she’s not. Because full honesty would require thinking not just about how perfect Isaac really is, but also about how perfect the fourth epic oh she’s kept buried deep in her past once was.

An easy enough thing to keep ignoring…until her past isn’t past tense anymore.

New Release Review! NOWHERE BUT HERE by Katie McGarry (Thunder Road #1)

A new series from Katie McGarry–yessssss! Don’t forget to enter the giveaway (and read and excerpt, watch the trailer, and see some teasers) here.

An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she’s curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn’t mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They’re the good guys. They protect people. They’re…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club’s most respected member—is in town, he’s gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it’s his shot at his dream. What he doesn’t count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

Oh, I really enjoyed this one.

I’m going to chalk it up to Ms. McGarry’s amazing writing ability, because I definitely didn’t love all the characters, their choices, or what they were doing all of the time. I’m still not all that crazy about Emily’s mother (to be fair, though, Emily spends more than 90% of the book with the other side of her family, and mostly when we see or hear from her mom she’s freaking out about something…so I guess she could be an amazing person, but I don’t see it), even after knowing what was behind all the lies and half-truths. And oh my gosh, the secrets. For a huge chunk of the book, I wasn’t at all convinced that Ms. McGarry could make me believe in the justification for all the secrecy. Nothing could possibly be all that, I reasoned.

I’m happy to be proven wrong–she made me buy it all in the end–and then she made me cry.

Darn you, Ms. McGarry.

I liked that Emily and Oz’s relationship was a slow build, and that they never rushed into anything. I loved watching Emily start to realize and eventually admit to others that her preconceived notions about Eli and his side of her family were wrong–seeing her get closer to Olivia, her paternal grandmother, was especially gratifying. Emily’s insistence on believing what she’d been told for so long about her father rejecting her even when she had evidence to the contrary was more than a little but frustrating, but it fit in with the rest of her mental hangups. (And as a person with a few hard-to-shake mental hangups of my own, I get where she’s coming from.) At least she came around eventually and began to admit to some truths.

And Oz…well, Oz was just as lost and just as wrapped up in his own world of denial as Emily was, only he didn’t even realize it for most of the book. Actually, neither did we, for a good chunk of it. But he mans up and accepts reality and manages to find a place for himself in two very different worlds, all while showing Emily what family and loyalty and love are really all about.

Such a good book.

Ms. McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series started out strong, and Thunder Road is just as promising. There’s a wealth of side characters here that have the potential for meaty stories–Razor’s next, and though we barely get to know him in this book, his teaser excerpt was fantastic. And Violet and Chevy? I must have their book–SOON.

SOON. Please? 😉

From Emily’s Point of View. Set up: Emily is riding a motorcycle for the very first time and she’s riding it with Oz.

THE MOTORCYCLE ACCELERATES AND THE FEW inches I had established between me and Oz: gone. My body slides forward, colliding into his, and we click together like two puzzle pieces. Heat rushes up my neck and onto my cheeks. My thighs are too close to his, too tight against his body and this is way more intimate than I have been before with a guy.

Even when the two of us kissed.

Oz veers left, away from Olivia’s, away from the main road, and the entire motorcycle pitches to the side. My heart thunders and my fingers clutch not only at Oz’s belt loop, but at the material of his jeans, and his hips.

Oz glances at me over his shoulder as the bike straightens out. “Lean with it, Emily.”

Right. Lean with Oz and the bike. Got it. The narrow road curves ahead and this time when Oz and the bike tilt, I move along with it. Oz releases one of the amazingly high handlebars and massages my knee before returning his hand to the grip. Whether in reassurance or to affirm I mastered the curve I don’t know, but either way, I sit higher.

The wind whips through my hair and onto my face and I shut my eyes for a brief second and pretend that I’m flying. There’s something energizing, something hypnotic, something inside me that begs to burst out of a cage in search of freedom.

The motorcycle kicks forward and our speed increases. Beams of sunlight filter through the towering trees and green foliage blurs together as we fly over the road. From head to toe, my body vibrates with the loud growling of the powerful machine.

My knee still tingles from where Oz laid his fingers on me and I’ve never been more aware of my hands in my life. I should let go of Oz’s body, but I can’t. Belt loops weren’t enough and my fingers have somehow edged up and onto his sides. Oz is solid. Yes, definitely solid. Every inch of him that I touch is tight muscle.

Oz is a year older than me, but somehow he seems older, wiser and hotter than any other guy I’ve known. Just the way he rides his bike creates this overabundance of confidence.

Warm sensations I’ve never experienced before blossom through me. We enter another curve and I lean with him. I like how in sync I’ve become with Oz and the motorcycle. Like we’ve merged into one.

The purr of the engine deepens and Oz eases the bike to a stop. His feet hit the ground and he turns the machine off. It’s as if all sound in the world ceased, or maybe I’ve gone deaf because there’s no way anything can be this still or silent.

The wind picks up and the silence is frightened away with the roar of the trees bending. Both Oz and I shift with the flow of air and Oz doesn’t move the bike until the breeze gentles.

Oz kicks down the stand and the bike tilts, but not too much. He sets a hand over the fingers that I laced together across his stomach. Oh, hell, I’m plastic wrapped to him. I drop my head onto his shoulder and it places me closer, and closer is not what I need.

I go to unglue myself, but Oz squeezes my fingers, sending a jolt of electricity up my arms. “You okay?”

I have to clear my throat to speak and that just sucks. “Yes.”

Oz slides his fingers against mine and a fluttering occurs in my stomach. It’s a light fluttering. Ticklish even, and my survival instincts scream at me to get off this motorcycle.

New Release Excerpt and Giveaway! THE UNDERCOVER SCOUNDREL by Jessica Peterson (The Hope Diamond Trilogy #3)

And the TBR keeps growing!

The Undercover Scoundrel Banner

The Undercover Scoundrel Synopsis:

The author of The Millionaire Rogue returns to her dazzling series about a bygone era filled with romance, espionage, and one dangerously seductive diamond…

Mr. Henry Lake spent the past twelve years uncovering the most scandalous secrets of Europe’s wealthy and powerful, serving as one of His Majesty’s most decorated spies. But when a mission to find the legendary French Blue diamond brings him back to London, and face to face with a beautiful noblewoman he once loved, it’s his own hidden passions that are uncovered…

Lady Caroline, dowager Duchess of Berry, knows better than to lose her head over a man. After an embarrassing romantic entanglement forced her into a loveless marriage and early widowhood, she learned to never trust in desire, especially when it comes to the man who once broke her heart. Only, despite her good sense, she finds Henry impossible to resist—even when he once again places her in deathly danger…

She breathed against him, and he breathed against her. He wondered how a naked shoulder could be infinitely more erotic than other, more private naked parts.

Her left hand went to her forehead; with her right, she poured wine into her cup and threw it back in a single gulp.

“Henry,” she whispered. The sound of her voice made him feel the burn behind her closed eyes as his own. “Mr. Lake.”

“Don’t call me that.”

She scoffed. “Maybe we shouldn’t call each other anything.”

“Of course. Yes,” he said. A pause. He was holding himself an inch away from her. It was killing him, the impulse to close the distance between them, to press his body against hers. Resisting it was like resisting the end of night, the approach of morning: inevitably idiotic, vexingly futile.

Frustrating. Waiting out the passing of this moment, and then the next, frustrated him to no end.

He wanted to touch her. God, he wanted it more than he’d ever wanted anything.

But he was hurting her. She was hurting, and it was because of him. He closed his eyes against his guilt. He’d married her, claimed her as his own, and left her the next day.

Henry had no right to touch Caroline. He’d lost that right twelve years ago. He’d lost her. He was a cad, a blackguard, a scalawag of the worst sort.

Still, the desire to claim her again glowed brightly inside him.

He stared down at the skin of her neck; that skin. His fingers burned with the need to touch her there.

Those stray wisps of her hair were stuck to her glistening nape. Without thinking—without meaning to—he reached up and brushed them aside with his thumb.

Caroline sucked in a breath as the skin along her neck and shoulders broke out in a wave of goose bumps. She didn’t say anything.

And then Henry was leaning forward, angling his neck as he lost himself in her nearness. He pressed his mouth, gently, to the bottom corner of her neck, the place where it sloped into shoulder. Her skin singed his lips; he tasted salt, and her.

A flood of memory rushed through him. He knew her, he knew her taste and the curves and hollows of her body, the breathless sounds she made. Across the ballroom she’d been a stranger; but now, up close, she was as familiar as she’d been that summer night so many years ago.

She was his.

At least for now.

His lips were moving up the elegant length of her neck now, slowly, as he savored every inch of skin, and felt the furious working of her pulse in the curve beneath her ear.

Caroline’s eyes were still closed as she tilted her head, baring her throat to him. He held her neck in his hands, holding her closer against him, steadying her against his increasing hunger.

His mouth moved over her jaw to graze the corner of her lips, and then he was turning her toward him, trapping her legs between his own as he at last took her face in his hands and pressed his lips to hers.

A levy broke inside him at that moment, releasing a torrent of emotion, of feeling he hadn’t known he’d been holding inside his chest until now.

Behind his closed lid he saw stars, and then he saw nothing, blind to everything but the riot of sensation that pulsed through him from this place where skin met skin.

In half a heartbeat he was wild with desire. It took his every ounce of self-control to kiss her carefully, thoughtfully, as she ought to be kissed; as he wanted to kiss her.

He wanted to do a thousand other things, too, things he’d learned in the misguided hope that he would one day be able to do them to her. Things that one could only learn in Paris; things that would make an Englishman blush, or die, or both.

God, but her lips were soft. Yielding. Her mouth tasted sweet, like wine, and clean. She allowed him to open her lips with the gentle press of his own; he groaned aloud, eyes rolling to the back of his head.

He dug his fingers into her hair, his thumbs hooked beneath her chin. He moved her head against his kiss, tilting her to the right, then to the left, taking her bottom lip between his teeth.

Henry took and she gave, willingly, meeting him stroke for stroke. She was falling into his caress; he could feel her sway beneath him.

The wildness that ran hot just beneath his skin—he struggled to control it.

And then, in the next instant, he couldn’t.

New Release Review and Giveaway! SEARCHING FOR BEAUTIFUL by Jennifer Probst (Searching For #3)

Soooo good! Don’t forget to enter the giveaway 🙂
The highly anticipated third novel in the Searching For series from Jennifer Probst, “one of the most exciting breakout novelists” (USA Today), featuring a runaway bride and the man who wants to be more than just her best friend…

Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control. About to wed the charming Chief doctor at the local hospital, she’s an up-and-coming surgeon with everything she could ever want. Until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin…and flings her right into her best friend’s arms.

When Wolfe catches his best friend falling out a window on her wedding day, he doesn’t ask questions. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk his most important relationship in order to protect his damaged heart, and the woman he loves.

Can Genevieve and Wolfe’s friendship turn into something deeper—or is it already too late for true love?

Wow–this book was so much more than I expected. Runaway bride, friends-to-lovers; this I was expecting, and got, but then there was MORE.

Like Gen’s reasons for jumping out of the church window on her wedding day–reasons she wasn’t even acknowledging to herself at that point.

And the truth behind Wolfe’s mysterious past.

And an oh-my-gosh scary and manipulative man who made my blood run cold.

And a beautiful look at what both friendship and family really mean.

And a totally delicious set-up for book four ( Searching for Always ). I seriously want to read that book NOW.

Ms. Probst’s books have been kind of hit or miss for me–the first book in this series, Searching for Someday , started out strong, but then it fizzled. I had high hopes for this one, though–its gorgeous cover and the intriguing runaway bride/friends-to-lovers plot line were calling my name–so I decided to give it a shot.

Sooooo glad I did! I loved Gen and Wolfe’s story from the very first page. (Seriously, how many heroines describe themselves as “hobbit-sized”? Too funny!) They both had so many demons to conquer before they could get to their HEA, and never was the “H” of an HEA so deserved!

(Thank goodness the airline attendants didn’t make me power off my tablet while I was reading this one, or somebody might have gotten hurt.)

Now I’m going to have to go back and read book two ( Searching for Perfect ), just to make sure I don’t miss anything.

At least it will keep me busy while waiting for book four… 😉

Rating: 4 stars / A-

New Release Excerpt Tour and Giveaway! SHATTERED DUTY by Katie Reus (A Deadly Ops novel)

Out now! Read on for excerpt #7 and a giveaway!

Shatter Duty BT

Shattered Duty  Synopsis:

A new novel from the author of Bound to Danger who “has the amazing ability of pulling the reader onto the front lines of the action and drama.” (The Reading Café)

When his wife was murdered two years ago, Special Agent Levi Lazaro turned his back on everything he cared about. Ever since, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. Now he’s finally uncovered the identities of those who killed his wife—and he’s ready to destroy them at any cost. He won’t let anything stand in his way—not even a beautiful NSA agent on a mission of her own.

Special Agent Selene Wolfe prides herself on being the best. Her fearlessness and quick-thinking make her the perfect person to take down a deadly terrorist cell. But she needs Levi’s help, and the moment he shows up, Selene knows her objectivity—and her heart—are in trouble.

As the two strike an uneasy alliance, Levi finds himself tormented by his desire for Selene—a feeling he thought long dead. But when their mission takes an unexpected turn, he finds himself at a crossroads. Can he put aside his need for revenge to save the woman who’s reawakened his soul?

“Were you on my computer?” he asked through the door, already knowing the answer.

As the door flew open, Levi stepped back, ready for another attack but she stood there with her hair wrapped in a towel above her head and another towel wrapped snuggly around her body, tucked perfectly between her breasts. “Of course. I was snooping, what else.”

He stared at her, forcing his gaze to remain on her face. “And you’re just . . . admitting it?”

“Why would I lie? I’d be stupid not to take a peek at your computer. You shouldn’t have left it out if you didn’t want me to go through it. Your encryption is pretty good, but I’m better. And your playlist sucks, by the way.”

“My playlist is awesome,” he said without thinking. He shouldn’t be arguing with her about his damn music, he should be yelling at her for going through his computer. Even if she was right. He shouldn’t have left the damn thing out. There was nothing of particular value on it so he wasn’t concerned about that. He used it mainly for communication but he always deleted his tracks no matter what.

Snorting, she sidestepped him and headed for the closet. Moments later she came back out wearing one of his T-shirts and jogging pants—and no bra. He swallowed hard, trying not to notice how full her breasts were or imagine how they’d feel cupped in his hands. Fuck him. He closed his eyes, trying to shove away the image of her lean, smooth body but it was impossible. He could easily envision those sexy tan lines and fantasize how her bare mound would feel against his mouth and tongue.

“Awesome is not the word that comes to mind. More like, wrist-slitting depressing. And you don’t even have any good country music on there.”

His eyes snapped open and he watched as she sauntered over to the mattress and collapsed on it as if she totally belonged there. The fact that he liked seeing her there made something shift inside his chest—and the guilt was back. She pulled the towel off her head and dropped it on the floor in a messy heap.

“You like country?” he asked before yanking up her towel. He wondered if she was messy in general, then cursed his curiosity. He should not care what kind of habits she had. She was just going to be an asset to him, nothing more. Right.

“Uh, yeah. Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, come on, who doesn’t love those guys?”

It was too weird to be having this conversation with her, but he shook his head and hung that towel and the one she’d left haphazardly in the closet back in the bathroom. As he finished stripping off his shirt, shoes, and socks he said, “That’s not real country.”

“Really? Because I’m pretty sure they’re topping the Billboard country charts,” she said, finger-combing her damp hair.

“You know what I mean,” he muttered, sitting on the opposite side of the mattress. When he thought of country it was Hank or Autry. “You’re sleeping here?” He’d originally planned to just cuff her to him but now she’d proved the cuffs were useless and she didn’t seem to be going anywhere.

“Well, I’m not sleeping on the floor. Unless you’re worried about me killing you in your sleep?” The light note in her voice took away what could have been a deadly question.

Rolling his eyes, he turned off the only lamp in the room and laid down next to her. He noticed that she’d slid under the sheet he’d thrown on the mattress, giving them a little separation.

It was beyond surreal sleeping next to a woman who worked for his old boss—and who’d just mocked his taste in music as if they were friends—and it was made worse by the fact that he wanted her. Desperately.
