Boone Brux, Author of RANDOM ACTS OF MARRIAGE (Wedding Favors #2) Shares the Top 5 Best Things About Being a Bridesmaid (with a new release review and giveaway!)

It’s that time of the year again, when love is in the air and weddings abound. If you’ve ever been bestowed the honor of being a bridesmaid, then I’m sure you’re well versed in the high and low points of holding that honorary position. With the release of the second book in my Wedding Favors series, Random Acts of Marriage, let’s celebrate by examining why being a bridesmaid is super awesome and a position to be envied.

First off, parties thrown in honor of the bride, and or groom. Basically, it’s a license to drink. As a matter of fact, most of the activities you perform as a bridesmaid will require drinking. Wedding dress shopping, cocktails at lunch. Bridal shower, some kind of killer punch dressed up like a fruity drink. Getting ready for the wedding, drinking starts early in the hair salon with mimosa or bloody Mary’s. Just be ready for it and embrace the custom.

Second, being a bridesmaid is like being in an all-girls’ band. You’ll probably dress the same, life will revolve around your gig, and it feels kind of groovy to be the warm-up act for the bride. No matter what the event, you’re always front and center, second only to the bride and groom—and really, just the bride.

Third, you’re getting a firsthand education of what not to do when you get married. Lessons like, spend less money on ‘save the date’ cards and more money on penis paraphernalia for the bachelorette party, is invaluable knowledge you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life.

Which brings me to the fourth great thing. Penis paraphernalia, and lots of it. Penis straws, penis crowns, light up penis pops. This is one of the few times in your life that researching and buying penis props is not only allowed, but expected. Go nuts.

Lastly, you’ll be a hero. At some point during the planning phase or on the wedding day, you will be a hero. Nerves will be strung tight, unwanted opinions will stress out the bride, glitches in the arrangements will turn timid Tina into Bridezilla. Slap on your cape and tights and jump into the fray. Whether it’s MacGyvering the zipper on the bride’s dress minutes before walking down the aisle, or being incensed that the chair bows are more pink than blush is what will make you a hero. No, you probably won’t get any kudos for your mad bridesmaid skills, but there will be booze and cake to soothe your pride.

So, if you’re a soon-to-be bridesmaid, embrace the experience and know that your friend couldn’t do it without you. Well, she could, but it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun.

A wedding. A playboy. And a week he’ll make sure she never forgets.

Kinni Corbet is the perfect bridesmaid. She’s efficient and has a to-do list for every occasion. When the bride-to-be adds “relax and have some fun” to Kinni’s schedule, Price Lyons seems to tick all the right boxes. He’s guaranteed fun, and it’s only for one week—what can it hurt?

Playboy hotel owner Price Lyons has wanted to break down Kinni’s walls for years. Her plan to relax for a whole week is the perfect opportunity to get to the one person he’s never been able to charm. And this time, she seems…receptive to his advances. Unexpected, but he’ll take it.

There’s just one problem. Kinni’s allergic to spontaneity, and the only thing predictable about Price is his unpredictably. There’s no way they’ll last beyond the week, and Kinni’s going to make sure of it…

A sweet acquaintances-to-friends-to-lovers story!

Kinni Corbet and Price Lyons have been in the same friends group for years, but haven’t really gotten along. She thinks he’s a fluffy-headed playboy, and he thinks she’s wound a little too tight (he’s not entirely wrong). But their good friends are getting married, and they’re both in the wedding party. When Price overhears the bride-to-be telling Kinni that she needs to spend the week of the wedding (gasp!) relaxing and having fun, he decides to step up to the plate and give her a hand.

Sounds like fun, right? 😉

In the week that follows, Kinni learns that Price isn’t quite the guy she thought he was, and Price finds himself more drawn to Kinni than he ever could have imagined. The two are thrown together into quite a few amusing and entertaining situations which make this short, sweet story a lot of fun to read. There’s a plethora of phallic-themed party favors! There’s nudity (sadly, not all of it is fun sexytimes for our hero and heroine–but some is :))! There’s moving and grooving on the dance floor, and fun drinks named after sex acts!

Ah, if only I liked coffee-flavored liqueur! Though given Kinni’s morning after, it’s probably best that I don’t… 😉

Random Acts of Marriage, the second book in the Wedding Favors series, takes place at the same time as the events in book one, Bridesmaid Blues . It worked just fine as a standalone, though be warned: you see just enough of what’s going on with that book’s couple that you’ll probably be adding it to your TBR before you’ve turned the last page on this one.

Top 5 things you don’t know about Sawyer Anderson:

  1. Sawyer has been best friends with Jack Flaherty since they were twelve. An only child, Sawyer thinks of the Flaherty family as his own—including Jack’s baby sister Jill.
  2. Sawyer was an NHL superstar. He played for the Colorado Flurries for ten years before a dirty hit and severe concussion ended his career.
  3. Sawyer owns the local sports bar in the small town of Christmas, Colorado—the Penalty Box, and coaches the competitive midget hockey team.
  4. Sawyer has a soft spot for single mothers. His mother raised him on her own.
  5. When Jack was MIA for seventeen months, Sawyer fell in love with his best friend’s wife. Even though he didn’t act on his feelings, Sawyer nearly lost Jack’s friendship. He’ll never put their friendship at risk again.

It’s beginning to look a lot like love . . .

As her thirtieth birthday approaches, deputy Jill Flaherty decides it’s time to live a little. When she walks into Sawyer Anderson’s bar in her sexiest dress, she’s not thinking that he’s her brother’s best friend or about the many women he dated during his years as a pro hockey player. All she’s thinking is that it’s finally time to confess to her longtime crush how she truly feels.

Sawyer is done being a player on and off the ice. Yet no one in the small town of Christmas seems to believe he’s ready to settle down, not Jill, and certainly not Jack, who is determined to keep Sawyer from breaking his little sister’s heart. But as Sawyer and Jill’s relationship heats up, can he prove that he’s her happy ever after?

Where to start? So much was going on in this one…at times, a little too much. Talk about having to go through the wringer to get to your HEA–Jill and Sawyer definitely earned it, that’s for sure!

I picked this one up because of two things: 1) Sawyer’s an ex-NHL player and 2) best friend’s little sister troupe. Hockey players are my catnip, and I love the angst that BFLS stories can bring. On the second, this story did not disappoint, though that part of the conflict was resolved fairly early in the story and gave way for a whole lot of other angsty stuff. Maybe a bit too much? I’m still not sure how I feel about some of the directions this story went in.

On the hockey front, I did really like the scene early on where Jill was strong-armed into playing in the championship game against Sawyer and Jack’s team. I’m not sure it’s really plausible to do so well in your first game ever, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

I also loved Sawyer’s sabotaging of Jill’s dates. Very amusing…unless you’re Jill, of course. 😉

Some of the other plot diversions? Birth control mishaps, nursing home mysteries, ex-husband drama, former relationship angst, kidnapping, shoot-outs, predatory coworkers…the list goes on and on. I was starting to wonder what wasn’t going to happen to these two before we got to “the end”!

Not having read the rest of the series, having so many secondary characters involved in/invested in the story’s outcome did get a bit overwhelming at times. It was easy to keep track of Jack and Grace (Jill’s brother/SIL) and Brandi and Trent (Sawyer’s coworker and her son) but everyone else tended to blend together and leave me with a feeling of “now who is this person again…?” for at least a paragraph or two each time they show up. For series regulars, though, I have a feeling this story will be right up their alley–everyone’s in it, and it seems to wrap everything up nicely.

I enjoyed the HEA, and was beyond glad when we finally got to that point. It felt like a long and rambling journey at times, but ultimately all’s well that ends well, right?
