New Release Review! BECAUSE OF MISS BRIDGERTON by Julia Quinn (Rokesbys #1)

Because of Miss Bridgerton
by Julia Quinn

Synopsis:

Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places…

This is not one of those times.

Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband… someday.

Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should…

Or not.

There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he’s arrogant, annoying, and she’s absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can’t stand the sight of him, either.

But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor…

Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can’t abide is the one person they can’t live without…

Review:

A new Julia Quinn series, it has Bridgertons (albeit earlier ones than we’re used to, but Bridgertons are Bridgertons! Apparently pall mall has looong been a form of peculiar warfare for them all, who knew?), AND it’s an enemies to lovers story? It’s like hitting the historical romance trifecta!

I had so much fun reading this book. Billie and George just didn’t get along at all…until they did. Gradually, reluctantly, and helped along the way by lots of carrying. You just can’t go wrong when your hero needs to carry an injured heroine from place to place–especially when it gives him the opportunity to count her freckles along the way 😉

Love. George.

The Rokesbys–the Rokesbys we see, anyway–are a smaller family than the later Bridgertons, but are written with a similar amount of humor and affection. We see quite a bit of Andrew Rokesby here–his book is sure to be fun!–but the hero of book two is going to be Edward, who isn’t in this one but causes a fair amount of drama anyway (and oh! that ending! Talk about a teaser…) Edmund (THE Edmund Bridgerton!) is away at school for the duration of the story–he’s mentioned, but that’s it. Ms. Quinn has said he’ll be a secondary character in later novels, though, so that’s something to look forward to as well.

Can’t wait!
