Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today, Brooke!
My pleasure, thanks for having me.
What 5 things should readers know about you?
- My first ever story was written on red, scented paper that smelt like cherries. I was six.
- I get too attached to my characters and feel guilty when I write them into terrible situations.
- I spend waaaay too long Googling hot men who could play the hero. Erm it’s research and it still counts as work, right?
- I’ve occasionally forgotten to cook my kids’ dinner when I’m in the writing zone. Thank goodness for takeout.
- I’ve been known to pour a LARGE glass of wine to help ease the pain of a very negative review. I also pour wine to celebrate great reviews. Hmm, I sense a pattern.
That totally counts as research! Now if only I could get away with that kind of research for graduate school…and large glasses of wine…
Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉
Lucas Callaghan is an undercover cop hell bent on bringing down those responsible for his fiancé’s death eight years ago. He’s a really good guy. He’s considerate and he cares about people. But he buries it a mile deep under layers of pain and a broken heart.
Lucas drinks A LOT. He’d never cope on a dessert island without whiskey or gin.
Aoife Brennan is a med student. But it’s not her dream to be a doctor, it’s her fathers. Aoife wants to be an artist like her mother. She’s struggling to find balance between her studies and her passion.
If Aoife had paper and paint being stranded on a desert island would be bliss.
If I had enough books with me on the island, there’d be bliss all right 😉
Where did the inspiration for this book come from?
I was visiting my grandmother’s grave recently and I noticed an old grave nearby that I’d never paid much attention to before. It was the grave of a twenty-two year old women who died in 1933. In 1998 an eighty-seven year old man was buried in the same grave and the inscription read. ‘’Sleeping soundly with my love after all these years.’’ It was so heartbreaking but it reminded me that true love never dies. I started writing Lucas and Aoife’s story that afternoon.
Wow—what a story!
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?
Cecelia Ahern’s PS I Love You touched my heart in a way no other book ever had. I wanted to write stories that would have the same impact on my reader’s as that book had on me.
Oooh, good one!
What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?
The best part is definitely the characters. Getting to know them as if they are real people you call friends is so much fun.
Most challenging aspect is dealing with nasty reviews. I’m cool with negative ones, but ones that attack me personally really hurt.
Understandable. Break out the wine…
What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?
I’m working on the next two parts of the Scrubs serial. And I also have a standalone romance coming out in late 2016.
Great! Can’t wait 🙂
What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?
Confession? I haven’t read anything in weeks because I’ve been so busy writing. But the last book I read was Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects and it totally messed with my head. Loved it.
Oh no, nothing! Well, at least you have an excellent excuse 🙂 I really liked Flynn’s GONE GIRL–I’m going to have to try her other works as well…
If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?
Some secrets are best kept buried.
Wow! That’s the shortest one I’ve seen yet 🙂
Becky, your questions were so much fun to answer. Thank you xx
Thank you for answering them, Brooke!

I like fast cars, beautiful women and great sex.
I hate drugs. I can’t stand the idiots who take them and I loathe the bastards who supply them. Drugs cost me my whole world.
I wear many faces; right now I’m Doctor Lucas Callaghan and I’ll be him until I get my revenge.
My real name will be the last words to ever pass their lips.
I hate my name, Aoife Brennan, as soon as people hear it they treat me differently because of my father.
Medical school isn’t my dream, it’s his. But, it’s the least I owe him after everything I’ve done. I’m trying to be a good girl, but even good girls make mistakes.
He’s lying about who he is, she’s kidding herself about who she can be. They’re polar opposites with one very big secret in common.
Wow! This blurb sounds great! Congratulations on your new release! Thank you for sharing and Happy Holidays!
