Okay, so I didn’t actually blow kisses at their buses. But only because I’m on the wrong side of the building!
School’s out for two whole weeks (Alleluia! Alleluia!), which means it’s time to get serious about Christmas. I made five of the “Tweet Note and Photo Holders” for coworkers, but sadly I gave them all away before remembering to take a picture. I’m making six more as I type this (okay, I was working on them before I typed, and I will again as soon as I’m done. I’m not literally working on them while I type. I’m not that good) and they don’t have to go anywhere until the 24th, so I’ll definitely get a pic before they do. They are adorable!
I’m also making “Green Grocery Bags” from Sew Serendipity Bags by Kay Whitt, a book I’ve had for ages and love to look at though this is the first time I’ve made anything from it. They’re in the “easy” section, and they are easy but time consuming. I made two of the small size so far for coworkers–they came out great, but were–well–small. I’ve got two medium ones cut out to put together for friends, and will either make two more medium or large one for family.
And eventually I fully intend to make one or two for me. And take pictures. Because, yes, I gave the first two away without documenting their greatness.
Sigh. They looked really pretty, though. And were very well constructed, if I must say so myself.
Mini Moe#2 has been coveting my Vera Bradley quilted book cover. Unfortunately for her (but fortunately for me) it doesn’t fit the size of books she usually reads. Both the Minis are at my aunt’s this weekend, helping her out, so one of my missions is to create one better sized for her books. It shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Did anyone else hear the gods of sewing laughing, or was that just me?
I found an awesome site this week–Fleece Fun .com–and probably most of the rest of what I’m going to make will be from there. Angel, the creator, has both patterns and video tutorials on the site, and they’re all free! I’m thinking of making mittens for almost everyone, hats for the kids I give gifts to,
along with some ice scraper mitts for the guys. I have Buffalo Bills fleece that is just begging to be used.
I refuse to be deterred by the fabric store employee who said that you couldn’t pay her enough to sew with the furry fleece I bought to go inside the mittens. I’m sure it won’t be that bad.
I swear I hear that laughter again…
Anyway, with all this sewing in my future, obviously audiobooks are going to play a major role in the next four days. So far I’ve listened to Full Throttle by Erin McCarthy (sooooo much better than the last book in that series–actually really liked it!), and Molly Harper’s I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas (free from Audible this holiday season–good, but it really just made me anxious for the next book in the series, which I’m sure was their intention, darn them), and A Righteous Kill by Kerrigan Byrne (very good, though the narrator had a tendency to mispronounce words, which was distracting). Now I’m working on Katie McGarry’s newest, Crash Into You. (Yay! Isaiah! Though someone needs to smack Rachel–or perhaps her entire family instead–upside the head, and soon.)
After that, I’m not sure. I’ve got a bunch of new books–we’ll see what I feel like when the time comes.
Anybody else out there a last minute present maker? I swear, my life is spent proving the saying, “If it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would ever get done around here.”
