What I’m Reading: Week in Review (9-13-13)

(Click on the image above to find out 10 fun facts about Friday the 13th–my favorite is that paraskevidekatriaphobia means fear of Friday the 13th. I’m totally going to use that for ELA class next week, when we’re talking about 50-cent words. It’s going to be one of mine!)

Once again, school interferes with my reading, darn it. Still, I managed to be fairly productive, in spite of the tragedy that struck on Monday. The screen on my Kindle Fire cracked! It was horrible! I’m still not sure when/how exactly it happened, but it was found on the (hardwood) floor of my bedroom, a huge crack running from the middle of the right hand side to the top. Thank goodness I got the two year warranty through Square Trade–I called it in, and by Wednesday afternoon, my replacement one was here. Crisis over!

The warranty was absolutely worth the price. Definitely recommend.

I finished Flirting with Danger by Claire Baxter early in the week, and really enjoyed it. I am definitely signing up to read any sequels of that one! I reviewed it earlier in the week, and the giveaway for it is still going on for two more days–make sure you enter to win the Amazon gift card! (Tracy March’s giveaway for Tempted in the Tropics is still up too, don’t forget to enter!)

Next I moved on to Deep Rising by N.R. Rhodes, who I interviewed earlier this month. What an intense book! Just when I thought Jared and Lana had everything all sewn up, they were thrown right into another dangerous situation. As an added bonus, I got a lot of great examples of vocabulary words to share with my students next week–so I could say I was doing research for work while reading an awesome new release! Bonus! Review coming soon.

I just started Sarah Mayberry’s latest, Her Favorite Rival. I’m about a quarter of the way through, and loving it so far. Next I’m going to pick up Reforming the Cowboy by Marisa Cleveland.

On audio I read Gayle Forman’s Just One Day, and never have I been more glad that I’ve already got the sequel available to read, because MAJOR CLIFFHANGER ENDING! Seriously, I think it was worse than the end of The Mark of Athena (or maybe that’s just because I was ready for that ending, having been warned by a half a dozen students and both Mini Moes. This one took me completely by surprise, darn it). I will be reading Just One Year SOON.

But not yet, since it’s not out until October. But soon.

In the meantime, I’ve started City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare. I’m just starting to get into it, and have high hopes. (Can I just say, though, that I really like book-cover-Clary’s hair much better than the movie version? Such a disappointment….)

Now, though, I’ve got to get back to my lesson planning. We’re going to the football game on Sunday (Go Bills!) so I need to get my work done earlier this week so I can attend guilt-free.
