My spotlight shines on Jocelyn Dex, author of Belize Nights!

What 5 things should readers know about you?

Hmmm…

  1. I refuse to watch scary movies because I have nightmares for weeks after, but I love The Walking Dead.
  2. I’m a huge animal lover and I currently have six furry friends in my home. On that note, you’ll almost always find an animal in my books.
  3. Spinach enchiladas are one of my most favorite foods.
  4. My car is in desperate need of a paint job. (Any volunteers?)
  5. I don’t like to eat with a spoon.

Spinach enchiladas? I’m going to have to try those! (And you don’t want me to paint your car, trust me!)

Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉

Lana is clumsy and leads a normal, if not a boring, life. She’s looking for adventure, so books a trip to the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize. Dean is fun-;oving, adventurous (in and out of the bedroom), lives on the island, and is a great cook. The one thing each would need if stranded on an island? Hmmm…each other.

You had me at “great cook” 😉

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

The inspiration came from a trip (two trips, actually) that I made to Ambergris Caye. But, the story is fiction! The only thing truly based on my trip there is the bit about snorkeling with sharks. Still can’t believe I did that. It was scary!

Oh my goodness, me either! Wow!

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

I’ve been writing seriously for three years or so. My mother inspired me. When I was really young, maybe eight, I found a manuscript she’d written and I was hooked.

That’s awesome!

What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

Being able to get out of my head and into someone else’s is soooo freaking awesome. Ha. It’s an escape from the BS of real life. One of the challenges is staying focused on the story you’re writing when the plot bunnies keep multiplying and bouncing around your head saying, “Write me! Write me!”

If they get to be too much, you could send a plot bunny or two my way, since NaNo is fast approaching…

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

I’m working on a paranormal romance that includes a variety of demons, a siren, a witch, and an elemental. There’s a bunch of other stuff in works too, but can’t say much about any of them just yet.

Sounds like an interesting mix of characters!

What authors and/or books have inspired you?

Larissa Ione taught me that demons can be sexy. Gena Showalter taught me you don’t always have to write in complete sentences. Laura Wright taught me the C-word can be sexy if used right.

I like your answers! No one has been that specific before 🙂

What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?

Wow, there are so many. I’m going through a bit of a reading slump right now, so I’m actually in the middle of eight or so books. I KNOW at least half of them are stories I would normally love, so I’m holding off finishing them until my brain rearranges itself and can enjoy them.

Good plan…there’s nothing worse than not being able to enjoy a good book!

If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

Want a sizzling island romance story with sun, sand, sex, sharks, a clumsy heroine, a hot hero who can cook, and a HEA? Read Belize Nights!

Sounds perfect!

Blurb:

Lana’s traveling to her dream vacation in Ambergris Caye, Belize expecting sun, sand, clear water and relaxation. When she assaults a stranger with her carry-on bag at the airport, she’s overwhelmed by her all-consuming attraction to him.

Dean can’t get the clumsy brunette from the airport out of his mind. The way her chocolate eyes had devoured him left him yearning for more, so when he runs into her on the island, he makes the most of the opportunity.

When a dizzying heat engulfs them both, they realize Lana’s short vacation isn’t enough time to tame their burning desire.
