A Conversation with Samanthe Beck, Author of HARD COMPROMISE (Compromise Me #2)

conversation

Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today, Samanthe!

I’m thrilled to be here, Becky! I feel like it’s a good fit, because I love to read too, and while I have never quilted, I sleep under one on pretty much a nightly basis.

LOL! Perfect match, then! 🙂

What 5 things should readers know about you?

  • I like to tell people my husband and I met in a Turkish prison, but the truth is we met in law school.
  • I love wine and chocolate, but if I had to choose one for the rest of my life, I’d choose wine.
  • I’ve lived in Georgia, Puerto Rico, Maryland, New York, and London, but my favorite place is where I live now—by the beach in Malibu, California.
  • I can name all the U.S. Presidents. Well, not the future ones, sadly, but past and current? No problem.
  • Hard Compromise is my…(doing the math…doing the math)…eleventh book! Holy crap, even I can’t believe it.

Eleventh? Awesome, and congrats! (And—Turkish prison = law school; they’re similar, surely?)

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

My heroine, Laurie Peterson, made an appearance in Compromising Her Position, (Book 1 of the Compromise Me series), and gave her relationship-addict best friend Chelsea some advice about guarding her heart. Ultimately, the advice wasn’t very good, but Laurie honestly believed what she said, and even at the time I was writing the story, I kept thinking I’d love to push Laurie into the path of a guy who would call her on her bullshit, and prove wrong all her cynical beliefs about herself and relationships. Sheriff Ethan Booker turned out to be that man. Boy, did he!

LOL, are you ever right about that! Phew! (Review coming soon, BTW 🙂 )

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

I always wanted to write romance, so naturally I became a lawyer. 🙂 After thirteen years grinding away in a career I didn’t love, I’d paid off the student loans, and the second mortgage, and my husband and I decided to start a family. I found someone talented and enthusiastic to replace me at work, and I transitioned into full time mommy and part time aspiring author. (I was clearly a rookie parent because I thought, “Oh, I’ll have plenty of time to write while I’m home taking care of a baby)!

I made my first sale to Entangled Publishing in 2012, and my debut book, Private Practice, released in 2013. That makes my journey sound really fast, but, in truth, I submitted manuscripts for two years before hearing the word “Yes”! (I heard “no” many times, with respect to several submissions that will never see the light of day). I’m living, breathing proof that you should never give up on your dream!

Fantastic! Inspiring, even with all the NOs along the way…(and LOL re: your rookie parent optimism. Yes, SO MUCH TIME. Ha!)

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

I’m switching between series right now. Currently I’m working on book 3 of my Love Emergency series, Emergency Attraction. This is Sinclair’s story, for those in the know, and that poor girl is getting hit with the hottest, sexiest most devastating mistake from her past. I can’t wait for you to meet him!

After I finish Emergency Attraction, I’ll be working on the third book in the Compromise Me series. This is Arden’s story. Readers meet her in Compromising Her Position, and get to know her a little bit more in Hard Compromise. I have a hot doc lined up for her, and a whole lot of naughtiness!

They both sound great—can’t wait!

What are you currently reading, and what are your thoughts about it so far?

I just finished Robin Bielman’s Once Upon A Royal Christmas—yep, I let Robin put me in the Christmas spirit early this year—and I absolutely ADORED it.  She delivers everything you want in a holiday story. It’s a sweet, sexy, heartwarming treat, complete with a royal ball and some Christmas magic.

I agree! It was a fun read 🙂

If you had to “sell” your book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

It’s a one-night stand ten years in the making! #toohotforjustonenight

Prefect! Short and sweet…and true!

About the author:

Wine lover, sleep fanatic, and USA Today Bestselling Author of sexy contemporary romance novels, Samanthe Beck lives in Malibu, California, with her long-suffering but extremely adorable husband and their turbo-son. Throw in a furry ninja named Kitty and Bebe the trash talking Chihuahua and you get the whole, chaotic picture.

When not dreaming up fun, fan-your-cheeks sexy ways to get her characters to happily-ever-after, she searches for the perfect cabernet to pair with Ambien.

About the book:

Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.

Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.
