Entangled Ignite has two heart-pounding titles out this week! Read on for my interview with Claudia Shelton (Risk of a Lifetime) below, and then click here to read all about the second title, Larie Brannik’s Her Desert Treasure.
Welcome, Claudia! Tell us more about your book–take us beyond the official “book blurb”.
First of all, Risk of a Lifetime is about second chances in life and learning to let go of the past on so many levels. Set in a small fictional Missouri town situated near a big lake, the friendly I’ve-got-your-back feeling is only amplified when JB returns home with danger hot on his heels. And Marcy’s support system, her mother and sister, can be just as sassy and secretive as her when the need arises. Then there’s the chemistry between JB and Marcy that can heat up a cabin faster than a fireplace.
Sounds like a great combination!
Give us more info about your main characters–who are they?
JB and Marcy are made for each other, right down to the white shirt she kept when she kicked him out. Back in town only a few day, he still knows how to heat Marcy’s emotions with a wink or a whisper. But even though they may love each other that’s just not enough when she wants their life to be status-quo the way it used to be and JB’s career in law enforcement is on the line.
I sense some juicy conflict here…
What scene in your book was the most fun to write, and why?
There were quite a few fun scenes, but I do like when he walks in the house with his own key. Then when he asks her if she wants the key back…well…uh… Think about it, would you ask for the key back from a hot, alpha male?
LOL—no! 😉
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?
I’ve been writing for over five years with two other manuscripts completed before Risk of a Lifetime. My husband knew I wanted to be a writer, so he convinced me to quit my day-job and write my stories. And of course once I started writing seriously my family and friends cheered me on all the way.
That’s fantastic! It’s awesome to have such strong support.
What do you like best about being a writer?
I love when the characters start to show me who they are–the sexy, alpha hero and the strong, sassy woman. Sometimes one of them will show up first in my mind with their personality already well on its way to being a great character. That’s when I start searching for someone worthy of them and their love because that’s what makes for a great romance. Of course when they start to insist on their story being written and I’m in the middle of another work-in-progress, that can be a problem.
I’m still holding out for cloning. Or maybe my own Time Turner. I’d get soooo much more done!
What is the most challenging part of being a writer?
When I’m in the midst of a story, it’s hard to get up from the computer and exercise. Trust me, my body reminds me sometimes!
I believe it! My dog is also good at the reminding bit too…
What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?
I just completed the first three chapters and a synopsis for the second book centered around this lake-town setting. Plus I’m in the process of editing another just-completed manuscript headed in a different direction. Hopefully, you’ll see those books out soon.
Sounds great!
What authors and/or books have inspired you?
Cherry Adair and Catherine Mann for their great alpha heroes. And, BJ Daniels and Robyn Carr for that outdoors setting as a backdrop to a small-town feeling.
…and they’re all in my TBR. Coincidence?
What are you currently reading?
My TBR pile is getting out of control, but the next will be either Angi Morgan–The Marine’s Last Defense or Janet Evanovich–Takedown Twenty or Jeannie Lin–The Jade Temptress.
Decisions, decisions….
Please share a favorite scene from your books with our readers.
The slam of JB’s truck door interrupted her thoughts. She’d make him have to ring the bell while she took her time in answering and considered whether to unlock the door or
not.
Easy as anything, he stepped inside. She jerked to her feet, frowning, eyes rounded, and mouth open.
“You forget I still have a key to our house.” He grinned along with his gotcha wink. “I’m surprised you didn’t change the locks when you divorced me.”
“I’ll get that done first thing in the morning.”
“No need. If you want the key, I’ll give it to you.” He walked into her space. Braced his arms on each side of her against the kitchen counter. Leaning toward her ear, his breath whispered through her hair. “Do you want the key, Marcy? Should I leave it on the table?”
Ooooh! Love it!
Thanks so much, Claudia!

Author Bio:
Award-winning author Claudia Shelton thought she wrote mainstream when she began writing, but before long, someone told her she sounded more like romance. Then those pesky alpha heroes and the women strong enough to love them, started running through her mind insisting she write their own happily-ever-after. Since then, she’s focused on HEA with a splash of suspense or intrigue, becoming a two-time finalist in the Daphne Du Maurier (Unpublished) awards for excellence in mystery and suspense. During her downtime from writing, you’ll find her sipping a cup of cocoa in winter’s chill or enjoying a drink by the water in summer’s heat–either way, she’s always enjoying life. Her novel RISK OF A LIFETIME releases April 2014.
