A Conversation (and giveaway!) with Sonya Weiss, Author of STEALING THE BACHELOR (Stealing the Heart #3)

Stealing the Bachelor Blitz Banner

Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today, Sonya!

Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.

What 5 things should readers know about you?

I like my chocolate cold. I don’t know why, I just do.

I am a television show and movie-holic. Serious addiction.

I find greeting cards that are beautiful and inspiring and I frame them. I have one that has an elephant on the front of it walking on a tightrope. The card says, “Anything is possible.”

I am a huge fan of Star Wars.

I love old cars, especially muscle cars.

Great list! 🙂 I especially like #s 1 and 4.

Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉

Eric is the hero. He’s an attorney who only wants to help others. He grew up in a wealthy home with a father who was there physically but not emotionally. His mother was an alcoholic.  Eric grew up thinking he had to fix things for everyone. That translated into him thinking he needed to fix himself-go from nerd to bad boy to catch the heroine’s eye. Through the book, part of his journey is realizing he’s okay just as he is.  If he were stranded on a desert isle, he would want and need Ann.

The heroine, Ann never felt beautiful, never felt like she was enough compared to her sisters and she had a habit of dating the wrong kind of guys. Her issues about her looks made her sensitive about that so when she thinks she hears the hero making fun of her in high school, it’s the catalyst that causes her to keep him at arm’s length. She was driven to make her success in the business world. She poured her insecurities about herself into her chocolate shop. So when that’s threatened with closing down, it affects her on a deeper emotional level. Like it was saying all over again that she wasn’t enough. If she were stranded on a desert isle, she would want Eric.

Awww…very sweet! Surely she’d bring some chocolates to the island too, right?

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

The inspiration came from the Lois and Clark show. The one that starred Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher.  Here was this perfectly hot, hot, hot guy (did I mention hot?) but it was hidden beneath the nerdy character. He knew he was really Superman, he knew his own worth but the people around him didn’t see the hero behind the nerd. So I started thinking how many real life guys are like that. They’re kind of bumbling. Not as polished as other guys but underneath that nerd exterior, they’re wonderful heroes. They’re the good guys. The often unnoticed hotties.

Ahhhh, yes, I can see the resemblance! I’ll definitely have Dean Cain in my head when I think of Eric from now on 🙂

How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. Writing was always magic for me. With reading, you read a book and you’re transported to another world. Writing was like that for me. I had some wonderful teachers who encouraged and inspired me. A drama club teacher in high school and also a creative writing teacher.

Great!

What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

It’s the same answer to both. The writing. LOL.

LOL!

What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

Right now, I’m finishing up a YA sequel that’s due out next summer. I’m hoping to write on a contemporary sweet series featuring heroes who are firefighters after that.

Oooh, firefighters! Sounds like a winner already 😉

What authors and/or books have inspired you?

I have a long list for that. But who comes to mind right off the bat is Fern Michaels, Roxanne St. Claire, and Christie Craig. I watched a movie or documentary or whatever it was on the life of J.K. Rowling. It was called Magic Beyond Words: The JK Rowling Story. I loved that, it was very inspiring.

Hmmm, I haven’t heard of that one. I’ll have to check it out!

What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?

I’m about to start reading The Remedy by Suzanne Young. I finished the other books that tie in with it called The Program and The Treatment. Brilliant idea, beautifully written. In the last few weeks, I also read The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak-great book. And #Nerd by Cambria Hebert-fantastic heroine-loved it-can’t wait to get the rest of them. Oh, and I re-read Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder.

All of them are on my TBR! The Program series always looks especially tempting when I’m browsing at the bookstore.

If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

Okay, this is kind of dorky but….

Never overlook the Clark Kents of this world.

I like it! Keep reading to find out more about Sonya and her latest book, STEALING THE BACHELOR.

Stealing the Bachelor
by Sonya Weiss
(Stealing the Heart #3 – Can be read as a standalone)

Release date: January 11, 2016

About the book:

Having missed out on the “drop-dead-gorgeous” gene in her family, Ann Snyder decides to kick a little butt in the business world instead. That is, until her skeezy manager’s “side business” has the FDA raiding her chocolate shop. Now Ann’s in huge trouble…and the only person who can help her is the adorkable guy who completely humiliated her in high school.

Lawyer Eric Maxwell has been in love with Ann as long as he can remember. He figured he never stood a chance—don’t the beautiful girls always prefer the bad boys to the nerds? So he makes Ann a deal. He’ll provide her with free legal services…if she’ll move in and help him transform him from nerd-without-a-clue to bona fide bad boy.

And once the transition is complete, all he has to do is prove that he’s the only bachelor for her…
