Thanks so much for agreeing to be with us today!
Thank you for having me!
What 5 things should readers know about you?
- I drink LOTS of Sprite.
- I love all things Russian Organized Crime
- My favorite color is purple.
- When I’m not writing, I’m reading.
- I have two puppies that may, or may not, love me more than they love my husband.
LOL—I’m my dog’s favorite too 🙂
Tell us all about your main characters—who are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉
First you have Niklaus—or Red to those he’s unfamiliar with—a mercenary for the Den who carries guilt like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. When he’s not going at it with his twin brother—and Mishca is, notably, the only person that can get a rise out of him—he’s pretty mellow. Especially when it comes to Reagan.
Reagan is the heroine of the story. She works hard for the things she wants, even when she didn’t know she needed them. Once Niklaus walks into her life, she can’t let him go.
Niklaus would want to bring a weapon, but Reagan would think to bring a firestarter.
Very practical choices!
Where did the inspiration for this book come from?
While working on the Volkov Bratva series, I was always interested in delving further into Niklaus’ world with the mercenaries and what their lives are like. They’re not traditionally in the spotlight the way a mafia family would be. I’ve always found the shady dealings within the black market incredibly fascinating.
Interesting!
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, but I really started to focus on my craft when I read Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. That book made me want to start writing my own novels.
I’ve heard so many great things about her books! I’ve got quite a few on my TBR.
What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?
I love creating these riveting worlds where the characters feel real, and readers can connect with them, but I also find this to be the challenging part about it all. You never want to disappoint a reader for the same reason.
Exactly! I couldn’t agree more.
What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?
I’m currently working on Celt which is the seconds book in the Den of Mercenaries series. You can expect to see him at some point during the summer. I also have a novel that I co-wrote with Bethany-Kris (Hey Kris!) called Where the Sun Hides. That’s out June 6.
Awesome! Sounds great 🙂
What authors and/or books have inspired you?
Oh, so many that I would probably leave out a good number of them, but off the top of my head I would say: Kresley Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Bethany-Kris, Lauren Gilley and so many others.
It’s impossible to choose just one, isn’t it? 😉
What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?
I’m not currently reading anything since I’m deep in the writing cave, but I have a backlist a mile long for when I’m finished.
I hear you! I’m just hoping I never get trapped beneath my TBR pile—that would be unfortunate…
If you had to “sell” your book in a single Tweet, what would you say?
Come to the dark side, I have Russians. 🙂
LOL! I love it!

Excerpt:
While he slept, he didn’t look as defiant, as dangerous as he did when he was awake and able to use words to his advantage. She had seen him asleep before, if only briefly, and during that time, he had looked like the weight of the world was finally off his shoulders, and he could breathe again.
Now? Well, now he looked like that weight was back on and it was crushing him.
Without thinking, Reagan reached for him, smoothing her fingers over his shoulders, hoping to ease the tension that seemed to be bundled there, but her touch had just skipped over the scarred tattoo when he suddenly bolted up, grabbing hold of her wrists as he went.
In seconds she was underneath him in the bed, her hands gripped so tightly that even if she wanted to get free, she couldn’t.
“Niklaus,” she whispered, careful to keep her voice down with the frenzy she could see in his gaze. “It’s me.”
He didn’t let up, not immediately. Niklaus just looked down at her as if he didn’t recognize her, as though whatever he was seeing was meshing with the nightmare that had kept him under.
Blinking slowly, the fog seemed to clear, and he gradually released his hold on her, but didn’t move off her. Not yet.
“Sorry, I—”
“It’s fine. You didn’t really hurt me.” But she didn’t try and touch his scar again.
Gradually, he sat up, rubbing at his eyes as he sighed heavily. All too quickly he went from one extreme to a look of sadness that made her ache for him.
What did he dream about that put that expression on his face?
They didn’t ask a lot of personal questions when they were together, though she had learned a few more things about him this time around as opposed to the last.
But this…this she hoped he would share, if only so she could ease that storm she saw behind his eyes.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
He didn’t respond for at least a minute, but he turned back towards her, the emotions she had seen replaced with darker ones. At least she was more familiar with the way he was looking at her now.
“Help me forget,” he said as he pushed off the headboard, pulling her into him.
