A cute start to a new paranormal cozy mystery series! (With a bit more demonic action than I was expecting; those bits were pretty intense)
Of Potions and Portents is Spring’s story. She’s a kitchen witch with an affinity for nature–she bakes treats and makes oils and lotions for the business she runs with her three sisters. When one of her oils is involved in a possible homicide, it throws her into the path of the chief of police–a newcomer to the area who just happens to have had a starring role in Spring’s dreams lately. Tristan isn’t a believer in magic, but ensuing events (and one sexy witch) are soon going to make him reexamine what he knows and believes to be true.
I enjoyed the creative storytelling here–I didn’t expect the resolution of the mystery to be what it was!–and thought Spring and Tristan were really cute together. The recipes at the end sound delicious, and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Halliwell is going to take us with the other three sisters’ stories!
