The classic battle of good vs evil is one we all know well and one we all enjoy reading about. But what makes it so enjoyable that we keep coming back again and again to stories that include the trope?
Personally, I think why readers like good vs evil stories is because it’s a universal trope that is easily recognizable and translatable. No matter what culture you come from or no matter what language you speak, the good vs evil trope is one that everyone can connect to, and I believe this is part of the reason why it is so popular.
Additionally, almost everyone loves to root for a strong hero or heroine, or even an equally strong villain, which draws readers into the story as they pick sides and become emotionally invested in the characters and their development.
Other interesting trends within the good vs evil trope that are becoming more widespread are creating morally grey characters or redeeming the villain. These ideas add more depth and layers to the trope that actually make it even more intriguing because these trends keep readers guessing. These trends also blur the lines between heroes and villains, which make readers question the characters’ motivations.
All in all, I think why so many people like the good vs evil trope is because there are a lot of complexities and layers that can be explored, which keep readers interested and coming back for more as authors adapt and reinterpret the theme.

Ever since the Devil donned a powerful amulet that allows him to walk the Earth, he has grown weaker—and so has his authority. As a result, mutiny is rising in Hell, and the Devil must fight to remain the king of the underworld. Little does he know, there is much more at stake than his title.
After the death of the nun who raised him and his best friend, Jordan Conway cannot think of anything but finding Sophia and keeping her safe. Luckily, he has a team of archangels on his side, and with their help, the two lifelong friends are reunited.
