Growing up in Hollywood, on the celebrity circuit, most of Corey Matthews’ life played out in the headlines. Now the heavily sought out baseball star keeps his life private avoiding reporters as much as possible. But one silly mistake leads to a green-eyed thorn is side blackmailing him for a story.
After a personal tragedy, Taran Murphy’s career is all she has left. She needs her job, and her boss wants Corey’s story. So when she gets the chance, she goes after the sexy all-star pitcher. She didn’t expect getting to know the man behind the larger-than-life athlete would change everything.
Soon the best part of Corey’s life is the sassy gossip writer that’s driving him crazy. When he drops his guard and lets her in, Taran has to decide if what she really needs is Corey or his story.
Review:
LOVED Taran and Corey’s story!
These Evanses–and those who have “become” Evanses–are #familygoals. Seriously, when this author puts 2 or more of them on the page (in person, text, or phone form, doesn’t matter which) poof! it’s awesome sauce. Truly. Be careful about reading in public, though, because snort laughing *may* often result. You have been warned.
There was a lot of push and pull going on between these two–beyond the sports “gossip” reporter/athlete dynamic, they both had major issues in their past that affected not only most of their relationships but also specifically *this* relationship. For Corey that meant the fear of betrayal was strong and he jumped to conclusions more than once, while Taran spent a good chunk of the book steadily moving toward an emotional cliff that she was too numb to even know was there. Their dark moment felt inevitable, but it also made their reconciliation all the more sweet.
And OMG, it was so sweet! Absolutely made my day 🙂
And can I just say–I absolutely loved that Corey wasn’t at all threatened by Taran’s prior relationship–that was wonderful. In so many stories where one character had a positive romantic experience before, the new romantic interest has at least a little bit of oh, they’re still in love with *them,* they’ll always love *them* and that’s as it should be, but… or I know they like me a lot, but I can *never* be to them what they were kind of thing, but Corey’s 100% good with it, and OMG I am so here for that attitude.
Which is how we get to the very last page, which made me cry. And that’s all I’m gonna say about that–you’ll have to read it yourself and see 😉
More Than a Story *could* be read as a standalone, technically–though to really understand Taran’s backstory, it’s best to have read Nick’s story first ( More Than a Hero ). While you’re adding to your TBR anyway, there’s only 2 books before that one, so do yourself a favor and read all 4. You can thank me later 😉
