Today I’m so excited to have Katlyn Duncan here, talking about her new novella THIS CHRISTMAS!
Welcome, Katlyn! Tell us all about your main characters who are they? What makes them tick?
Hadley and Will are the main characters of This Christmas and This Summer. They have been next-door neighbors and best friends their whole life. Hadley is a pretty carefree girl who is excited to start her life in college in the Big Apple. And Will can be jaded due to his broken home but always finds solace in his favorite girl.
Friends to lovers—one of my favorites!
Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉
Hadley would probably need something to keep her mind busy, so probably her ereader. And Will would find comfort in keeping his hands busy with building shelter and other amenities so probably a hand-saw to make his work easier.
It’s my ereader for me too. Plus a solar charger (surely that only counts as one thing, right?)
Where did the inspiration for this book come from?
I wanted to continue Will and Hadley’s story from This Summer and what better place is NYC around Christmas? But as the story evolved in my head I wanted to give Will and Hadley time away from the busy city and rekindle some of the issues that they let slide during the semester.
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?
I’ve been writing my whole life in one form or another whether it was in novel format or a script. But it wasn’t until I started to connect with other authors on social media did I think about publishing myself.
Isn’t the internet amazing?
What do you like best about being a writer?
I love having creative freedom with this part of my life and having my books out there for the world to read!
That does sound awesome!
What is the most challenging part?
The editing process is the most challenging for me, but it’s also a really fun part of the process. I love breaking down my story and rebuilding to make it better. For example, This Christmas used to have a lot more characters and zany situations, but it wasn’t until my editor suggested I strip this novella down to the core did the real story start to come out. And I’m so happy with the outcome.
What are you working on right now?
A new YA paranormal series.
One of my favorite genres!
What can readers look for from you in the next year?
The start to my new series (as mentioned above) and possibly something else new.
Something to look forward to 🙂
What authors and/or books have inspired you?
Kelley Armstrong and her Women of the Otherworld series really brought me back to my love of paranormal and I aspire to make others feel like I feel when I read her work. Also I love the detail and romance in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.
I love Kelley Armstrong! I might have stalked her gone to see her in person once. Or twice. Maybe three times. (But she lives close, so surely that’s okay?)
What are you currently reading?
I’m reading a book blub pick right now, The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher.
That’s one I haven’t heard of yet…
What are your thoughts about it so far?
It’s different than we’ve read in the past as this is a collection of short stories but I’m enjoying it!
Sounds interesting! Short stories can be fun.
If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?
Warm your heart with This Christmas, a perfect festive novella for a snuggly night by the fire next to the one you love.
Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Even though she works full time in the medical field Katlyn has always made time for books, whether she is reading or writing them.
Katlyn now lives in southern Connecticut with her husband and adorable Wheaten Terrier and she is thrilled to finally share her stories with the world.

About This Christmas:
In this light hearted and festive sequel to THIS SUMMER, Hadley and Will rekindle their relationship against the sparkling winter backdrop of upstate New York. This is a must read for fans of HOPELESS by Colleen Hoover.
This year, if Hadley wrote her dream Christmas list, it would go something like this:
- Spend every waking – and sleeping – moment with her incredibly gorgeous boyfriend, Will.
- Figure out what’s been bugging him lately. Yes, going away to college has been tough…but it’s time they reconnected.
- Enjoy a sparkling Christmas in New York City, gazing at the Rockefeller tree, going ice skating, and drinking steaming mugs of cocoa in Central Park.
So, driving off to spend Christmas in a rustic cabin in the woods wasn’t exactly the plan. But when it comes to her irresistible, and at times, impossible boyfriend, nothing’s ever that simple. And as fantasies of an icy Times Square are replaced by a clumsily decorated tree, making snowmen and the warmth of a log fire, Hadley feels herself falling in love all over again.
Except does Will have something to tell her that could change Hadley’s happily-ever-after Christmas dreams into a not-so-winter wonderland after all?
Don’t miss this festive sequel novella to This Summer.
