Escaping the big city…
For love under Icelandic skies
When surgeon Betty Jacinth’s heart is broken once again, she takes a job in Iceland for a change of scenery. She expects cold weather—but not the frosty welcome she receives from gorgeous but brooding Dr. Axel Sturlusson! Now father to his orphaned niece, Axel gradually thaws, and a flame ignites—but when Betty’s ex begs her to return, can she make the right choice for love?

Review:
A sweet romance–this was actually my first medical romance, and it served as a nice intro to the genre!
Betty is looking for a way to start over, an ocean away from her toxic (and now married) ex. Axel can’t get over his brother’s death, nor, as a surgeon in his hospital, can he get away from his father’s control. What neither of them is looking for is a relationship…but of course we all know where this is going, right? 😉
Betty and Axel, language barriers aside, are a lot of fun together. I enjoyed each and every time he hoisted her over his shoulder (because of her questionable footwear…admittedly, I didn’t enjoy it as much as Betty ;)) and the contrast between how he viewed her medical abilities and how her ex had was considerable.
Though the romance was sweet enough, the scenery (especially the titular northern lights) really added to the loveliness of the story. The blue lagoon of the epilogue sounds absolutely wonderful–sign me up for a trip to Iceland, ASAP please! I also liked the extra complications that Axel’s teenaged ward (and niece) brought to their relationship–her machinations made me smile. There did seem to be a few times that the easy way out was taken–Axel’s father’s attitude adjustment, for example, and how Betty and Axel seemed to have medical emergencies practically fall at their feet throughout the story. It wasn’t completely outside the realm of possibility, but it did seem awfully convenient at times.
Still, this was an entertaining read. It was my first from this author, but probably not my last…
