New Release Review! THE INTROVERT’S GUIDE TO SPEED DATING by Emma Hart (The Introvert’s Guide #2)

The Introvert's Guide to Speed Dating available now banner

Speed dating: the act in which you have two minutes to figure out how much of a jerk someone is. And pretend like you don’t have the hots for your son’s soccer coach.

After four years living the single life, it’s decided that I, London Stuart, am back on the market.

I’m not even mad when my cousins and best friends put my name down for the speed dating sessions. In fact, I’m actually a little excited about it.

Until one of my dates turns out to be my six-year-old son’s irresistibly sexy soccer coach. His irresistibly sexy British soccer coach.

Oliver Hayes is too good to be true—he’s tall, dark, handsome, hilarious, and he genuinely loves kids. Especially mine. But he’s not sure if he’s even staying in the country, and I’m not sure I can handle giving him my heart if he’s only going to leave.

So why is he over for dinner almost every night? Why is he giving Leo private goalie sessions in the backyard? Why is he sending flowers to my desk at the newspaper?

And why, oh why, can’t I stop kissing him?

Review:

Another adorable rom com from Emma Hart! The Introvert’s Guide to Speed Dating (is there anyone for whom the words “speed dating” doesn’t intense dread? Besides the happily involved, clearly sadistic people who came up with the concept, that is?) is London and Oliver’s story, and the second in The Introvert’s Guide series. It could probably be read as a standalone, but as is usual for an Emma Hart book, characters from other books (and other series!) are heavily involved in both of the main characters’ lives 😉

I really liked London and Oliver as characters–and Leo, London’s son, of course!–though their romance was definitely tamer than many of the related books have been. London has been burned before–most recently by Leo’s dad–and is very hesitant to get involved with anyone else, especially someone who isn’t even sure they’re going to stay in the country, let alone the small Montana town where she’s made her home as a single mother. They take things slowly–and I do mean sllllloooooooowly!–and if you’re someone who needs to have their patience rewarded with an explosive, steamy scene in the end, you’re not going to get one here. I felt it made sense for the two of them, though I do agree that the ending was a bit quicker and more abrupt than was completely satisfying.

At its core The Introvert’s Guide to Speed Dating is a sweet romance with likable characters. Readers who have read the other books will probably want to read this one too–and they should!–as long as they temper their expectations. The next book (Piper and Maverick’s) is teased in the epilogue, so there’s that too 🙂
