Review:

Love Unleashed in another short and sweet installment in the Billionaire Matchmaker series of novellas based on four friends in a small town. All four women take turns dog-sitting Charlie, a mischievous Jack Russell terrier who also happens to be the “matchmaker” of the series.

Love Unleashed is Mia and Gideon’s story, and it’s an example of the lovers-with-a-past troupe–one that works particularly well within the format of a novella, since it’s usually more believable that two people who have known each other for quite some time can achieve an HEA within the confines of less than a hundred pages.

I thought this one worked very well–Mia and Gideon had broken up originally because he wanted more, and she didn’t. Well, that’s perhaps not exactly accurate–she did, but was too scared to admit it even to herself, let alone to Gideon. She’d had a very difficult childhood, and to say she had commitment issues would be a wild understatement. Gideon popped the question, and Mia ran–managing to stay away from him for months (no small feat in such a small town!) until Charlie got involved.

I like the role that Charlie plays in this series–you can almost believe that a real dog might do the things he does and inadvertently bring two people together, though it does stretch it a bit to think he’s doing it on purpose. Still, it’s a cute idea, and since Gideon is the town veterinarian, Charlie’s opportunities for bringing the hero and heroine together in this instance are even greater than usual. (Though Love in the Shadows manages to bring him in neatly as well, since Charlie’s “girlfriend” is Jenny’s dog–and the fact that Charlie hasn’t been fixed yet is addressed already in this one, setting up the actions of the final book in the series nicely.)

All in all, this is an enjoyable addition to the series, and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon reading.
