New Release Review: PUSHING THE LIMIT by Emmy Curtis (Alpha Ops #3)

Love romantic suspense? Look no further!

Pushing the Limit
by Emmy Curtis

Synopsis:

They’re tough. They’re brave. And they’ll do anything for the women they love. They’re the Alpha Ops. In the tradition of Suzanne Brockmann and Julie Ann Walker comes a sizzling new high-octane romantic suspense novel from rising star Emmy Curtis.

After their one-night fling at a wedding, archaeologist Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz thought she’d never see war hero Matt Stanning again. So when they’re paired up to investigate a military plane crash in Iraq, she’s not sure if the three-month reunion is serendipitous or cursed. What she does know is this gorgeous man lights her body on fire—and incredible sex is always a welcome distraction.

Air Force Sergeant Matt Stanning has been called a hero, but he feels nothing like one when he realizes the sexy blonde in his bed is the widow of his fallen brother-in-arms. Even worse, he actually has to work with her, and she’s unearthed evidence that points to a military conspiracy. If they dig deeper, they’ll put their lives in danger. If they don’t, they’ll never know the truth—not only about the mysterious plane crash, but about each other.

Review:

This was a really good read–I think I’ve found a new author to stalk..ahem, read avidly 😉

Both Harry and Matt are fantastic characters. I loved that Harry is an archaeologist–such an unusual occupation, especially for a woman. And Matt admitting to himself that he’s gotten lucky more than once thanks to the combination of his job and women connecting it with Top Gun? Yeah, he pretty much had me from that moment on.

Sadly for him, it didn’t work so well with Harry…

I’m often very picky about how widows are portrayed in romance, and Ms. Curtis did a great job with Harry. It’s always so refreshing to read about a character who has loved and lost and finds love again without needing to vilify the first love. That type of plot drives me crazy, especially when for most of the book it looks like they’re not going to go that route. Just the fact that Ms. Curtis didn’t do so would have had me looking up the other books in the series to see what else she can do, but add to that the fact that the suspense part of the romantic suspense was so well done, and the romance? Definitely sigh worthy. Sign me up for more!
