SYNOPSIS:

Exiled by his pack as a teen, Omega wolf Simon Moorehead learns to bury his gentle nature in the interest of survival. When a hulking, rough-faced Alpha catches Simon on pack territory, he tries to escape what he’s sure will be imminent death. But instead of killing him, the Alpha takes Simon home.

A man of action, Mitch Grant uproots his life to support his brother in leading the Blue Mountain pack. Mitch lives on the periphery, quietly protecting everyone, but always alone. A mate is a dream come true for Mitch, and he won’t let little things like Simon’s rejections, attacks, and insults get in their way. With patience, seduction, and genuine care, Mitch will ride out the storm while Simon slays his own ghosts and Mitch’s loneliness.

REVIEW:

An interesting twist on the werewolf genre…

Mitch and Frederick are twins, and both alpha wolves in their own right. Mitch helped his brother defeat the evil wolves who were formerly in charge of the Blue Mountain pack, and when Frederick fell in love and married, Mitch decided to remain with him even though doing so seemed to doom him to a life of loneliness.

But then fate brings him Simon…

Blue Mountain was a short and sweet story that is almost over before it begins. It takes Simon a good two-thirds of the story to begin to trust Mitch, and even then he’s hesitant–so really they’re only together together for a relatively short time at the end.

Once again, I would have liked it to be longer, and a bit meatier as well. What was here was enjoyable, but much too short–and there wasn’t a whole lot of real conflict. Most of it was just within Simon himself, who had to get over his fears; the scene where you know for sure that they’re going to make it is very sweet, though, and makes the ending.

The single scene of them as wolves was one of my favorites in the entire book.

The narrator had a fantastic voice for Mitch and Frederick, but I wasn’t crazy about what he did for Simon. Mitch’s insistence on calling Simon “pup” all the time was a bit off-putting as well.

Overall I liked it, though it wasn’t my favorite. Being a shifter fan, however, I am interested to see where the rest of this series will go.
