A Conversation with Jenna Fox, Author of SEALED IN BLOOD (with a giveaway!)

Please help me welcome Jenna Fox to the blog today!

Welcome, Jenna! What 5 things should readers know about you?

I’m pretty simple:

  • I’m a proud mother of twins.
  • I hate arrogance.
  • I believe in the power of prayer.
  • I always drink my coffee black.
  • I’m just a regular ole gal.

Tell us all about your main characterswho are they? What makes them tick? Most importantly, what one thing would they need to have with them if stranded on a desert isle? 😉

You won’t find many!  As a reader, I get bored and confused with 30 different characters, no matter how well the author develops them.  So, I use the simple approach in my own writing.

*Charisma Claiborne: A small town girl who was raised by a strict Baptist minister. As a teenager, she made a mistake that will haunt her for the rest of her life.  I’m pretty sure she would love to have Hunt Blackwater with her on a deserted island.

*Hunt Blackwater: Owner of a Las Vegas hotel and casino.  He’s rather eccentric and his strong Native American features make him irresistible.  After you finish the book, you’ll clearly see why Hunt would never be happy on a deserted island without Charisma.

Excellent answers 🙂
Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

That’s a good question, because I can’t really say there was one thing that inspired it.  I’ve always been a fan of thrillers/mysteries/suspense, but I wanted to create a story that would appeal to several different audiences, including erotica fans.

Sounds like a challenge!
How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

In elementary school, I would write poetry reflecting how something made me feel.  A fight with a close friend was good inspiration.

In my twenties and thirties, I would write short smut with my friends as the main characters. We had a blast reading them out loud during our lunch hour.

OMG, that sounds like so much fun!
What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

It’s a powerful, gratifying feeling to move someone’s emotions.  To entertain them and bring them into a world I’ve created is an honor.

For me, the most challenging part is drafting.  Setting the frame work for a story can sometimes be difficult if I don’t know exactly where I need to put certain emotions or actions.  I heavily depend on a critique partner for feedback.

Thank goodness for critique partners, that’s for sure!
What are you working on right now? What can readers look for from you in the next year?

My next book will be a billionaire erotic romance, I’m 30K into the first draft and still ticking. It won’t be released for another year, maybe longer.

Wow–something to look forward to for sure!
What authors and/or books have inspired you?

Oh, sooo many!  Stephen King, Agatha Christie and Patricia Cornwell are the top three. But the list could go on forever…

I hear you! An excellent start, at least 🙂
What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts about it so far?

I just finished beta reading a short erotic fairytale by Lola White.  White’s writing is such a joy, her descriptive voice is phenomenal.

Oooh, intrguing!
If you had to “sell” this book in a single Tweet, what would you say?

Beware: What Happens in Vegas Sometimes Follows You Home.

LOL, I like it!
Thank you for interviewing me, I had fun!

Determined to forget her ex-fiancé and gather the remains of her betrayed heart, Charisma Claiborne scrapes together her hard earned pennies for a dream trip to Las Vegas.  On her first day in town, she has an accident with an eccentric casino owner.  Enthralled by his good looks, she falls into his bed for a steamy one night stand.
But Hunt Blackwater is more than a mysterious, gorgeous casino owner.  Rumors of a Native American curse and a string of inexplicable deaths follow in his wake – but the most terrifying is his ability to reach right into Charisma’s soul and make her want the things she’s convinced herself she can do without.
Unwilling to get in over her head, Charisma cuts her trip short and returns home, but trouble seems to follow her.  With remembered whispers of curses in her ears and the lingering smell of death in her nose, she wonders if she is his next victim.  Things go from puzzling to harrowing as Charisma comes face to face with the greatest betrayal she could ever imagine.
