Dear Mr. Weaver Book Blast Banner

A day in the life of Kit Morgan? Are you sure you want to come along? Okay, if you’re serious …

I try to get up early, about 6am, (doesn’t always work though) and have my coffee in bed (ahhhhh). It’s my thinking and prayer time, and often I get some great story ideas as I sit and sip and keep a notepad nearby to write them down. The entire Holiday Mail-order Bride series came to me that way, as did one of the Dalton Bride books I wrote along with Cassie Hayes and Kirsten Osbourne. In fact, I’ve started many a book in bed with my coffee!

Once I do get up – sometimes after writing a chapter or two, I grab a spot of breakfast, try to work out – depending if one of those coffee-time story ideas still trying to get onto paper or not, then start my day.

I try to get my writing done before one or two in the afternoon so I have time to do the business end of things, which are many and can vary. Today I’ve been proofing a book sent back to me by my editor. I took a break from that to proof a new audio book my narrator sent me. Everything comes at once it seems, and all when trying to start a new book! But, that’s part of the fun. No two days are alike other than perhaps the time spent working. A day can end at eight in the evening at which time I’m like, hurray! I can watch a movie on the DVD player! Or go until midnight. It all depends on what needs to get done. It can be editing or more writing in the evening after dinner, unless I treat myself and watch a DVD! Watching something that has nothing to do with what I write helps to clear my head for the next day.

Often times, I help other writers or am world building in some way. I have two pen names and also write science fiction time travel under Geralyn Beauchamp. Those are some big books and take some big thinking. Not to mention Kit Morgan has three different western series with four different towns. That means four different sets of townspeople. Then I write in worlds created with other authors. Cutter’s Creek for example, or Debra Holland’s Montana Sky Kindle World, all of which keep me busy when not working on my own books. Yesterday took a turn when I realized I had to completely “upgrade” my town of Clear Creek before I could start the new book I’m working on. When I last set a story there, it was 1862. This new book is set in the same town but it’s 1877. Egads! I had to figure out everyone’s current age, which wasn’t too hard, but then came, who had what kids and how many, what are their names, when did they have them and on it went. I spent all day yesterday doing that!

So, as you can see, a day in the life of a writer is an interesting day indeed. We work very hard at our craft and put in a lot of hours birthing those wonderful fun-filled stories you get to read! So the next time you pick up a book, remember what went into bringing that book to you. It just might make the story a little more special.

Synopsis:

Daniel Weaver was ready for a wife. His three older brothers had been married for several years and now it was his turn. So, like his brothers Arlan, Benjamin and Calvin, he sends for a mail-order bride, with a little help from their cousin Matthew of course. After all, he helped his brothers write their letters to their prospective brides, so why not him? But when the letter from his bride comes, it’s got more than her acceptance of his proposal written in it. Worse, it gets picked up and read by the town’s worst gossip, Nellie Davis.

Ebba Knudson can’t figure out why folks in her intended’s town of Nowhere would be giving her such odd looks. It was bad enough she had other things to deal with by coming to the Washington territory to marry a farmer, but now this? Was there something wrong with her future husband? Or just with her? Of which she knew there was plenty. Enough to make her think she might not get married at all…

Enjoy this sweet, historical, western romance and the first book in this laugh out loud new series!

Excerpt:

“Do you have a list for me?” he quickly interjected.

“Certainly – why else would I be here?” She reached into her reticule to pull out her list.

Matthew turned and scrambled up a ladder to fetch something from a high shelf. “Just set it on the counter next to Daniel’s. I’ll get to it in a minute.”

“Oh, all right.” She set it down, then glanced at Daniel’s list – and spotted the envelope underneath it. “Has your cousin heard anything from his prospective bride?” she inquired innocently.

“Yes, as a matter of fact he did,” Matthew called down as he rifled through a stack of boxes on the shelf.

“Is that so?” she said as she deftly extracted the letter from beneath the list. She suppressed a rush of excitement by biting her lip. “And has he read it?”

“Yes, ma’am, he has.”

“What did she say?”

“That’s my cousin’s business. You’ll have to ask him.”

“Of course.” She quickly slid the letter out of its envelope.

“Why, Nellie!” Betsy Quinn called from the hall. “How are you?”

Nellie did what any self-respecting gossip would do – she stuffed the letter into her reticule. “Betsy! How nice to see you…”
