New Release Review! NO REMORSE by Skye Jordan (Manhunters #2)

No Remorse
No Remorse

Synopsis:

Everly Shaw hasn’t spent a decade working black ops for one of the most elite government contractors just to play nanny. But she also understands the devastation a broken family can leave behind. So when she learns a four-year-old girl was torn from her home in the dead of the night, she agrees to go undercover. Only once inside the father’s Costa Rican fortress, she discovers that the intel doesn’t line up with reality. Soon, she’s caught between the people she’s grown to care about and her team, the only family she’s ever known.

Playing single dad while building a company could be the most difficult mission Austin Hix has ever undertaken. He’s sacrificed everything to keep his daughter safe, including his career in the US special forces. The new nanny is supposed to bring Austin peace, but she’s a distraction all her own. She’s everything he wants, but none of what he needs. Just when Austin thinks he could have it all, Everly turns from friend to foe and threatens everything Austin loves.

Review:

Oh my goodness, this series! I thought I really enjoyed the first book ( Grave Secrets ), but this one just blew me away! (Quick question: how soon will book three be out? Answer: not soon enough! And please, please, please tell me it’s going to be Roman’s book! Please :))

Everly was entertaining as a secondary character in the first book (how does one manage to be fired by the same boss so many times and still have a job?), but as the heroine of her own book? Bring some heavy duty shades, because OMG she really shines. Fortunately, Austin is more than equal to her both on a personal and a professional level…and then you witnesses him interacting with his little girl, and you’re toast. Seriously, you’d have to be made of sterner stuff than I am–and possibly an automaton–to not be moved by this guy as he spends time with Bella.

I was a goner from that prologue, I tell you.

(Happy sigh…)

But then you remember that Everly’s actually there on assignment and what her goal’s supposed to be, and your blood pressure immediately rockets sky high. I never imagined I’d spend three-quarters of a Manhunters novel hoping that the Manhunters team would fail at their objective…

Spoiler alert: an HEA is achieved. And it’s glorious. Now, bring on book three! (ASAP, please!)
