Re-Release Review! THE PROPHECY by Nina Croft (Daughters of the Morrigan #1)

The Prophecy re-release cover

Whoever sacrifices the virgin, Raven Cole, on her twenty-first birthday will achieve a great victory in the war between good and evil.

That’s bad news for Raven. Half-vampire, half witch, and cursed from the moment she was born, Raven has been a prisoner of the fire-demons for the last seven years. Now, as her twenty-first birthday approaches, time is running out.

Kael Hunter believed he would do anything to stop the fire-demons from winning. Until he saw her. Now, rather than kill the alluring vampire himself, Kael has another plan: to prevent the prophecy by taking Raven’s virginity.

But Raven is prepared for death not seduction. Can Kael use their one night of passion to convince her she has a future – and that he should be a part of it?

The new and improved version will be available on March 25!

The Prophecy is the first in Ms. Croft’s Daughters of the Morrigan paranormal romance series. As such, there is a bit of space devoted to explaining the world in which it takes place, but considering its rather short length, the balance here of story vs. exposition is actually fairly decent. Ms. Croft tends to throw us right into the story first, and explain the details later, usually in the form of one character explaining something to another that clues the reader in as well–it’s a good use of the limited page space here.

Overall I really enjoyed Raven and Kael’s story–the genre definitely helped here, because aspects that might have bothered me otherwise (he is an adult when she’s born; their love is definitely on the insta- side of things…) tend to seem more normalized when paranormal creatures are involved. I’m looking forward to seeing where Ms. Croft will go with the rest of the books in the series–this one was the perfect size to squeeze a bit of escapism into a busy weekend!

I didn’t read the original version of this story (this revised version was released on 3/25/19), so I can’t say what was different from the original–but this stood alone as a story just fine.

Rating: 4 stars / B+
